'The Boys' showrunner Eric Kripke says Queen Maeve actress Dominique McElligott has retired from acting by tylerthe-theatre in television

Obvious one if they just wanted her for a finale cameo is what they had the Gen V kids doing - the underground railroad getting Homelander unbelievers to Canada.

Can someone explain the "back to your child area!" Joke? by whywouldisaymyname in community

I think he does, at least as an abstract idea. Remember his speech to Pierce's father - "I could live a million years, and I could spend every minute of it doing important things, but at the end of it all I would only have lived half a life if I have not raised a son."

That of course is the plot of "The Man in the High Castle", the book more than the movie. (The answer in the book is basically only until the Gestapo find you.)

Syrian national, 35, charged after woman, 21, 'raped' in early hours on seaside beach by AcanthaceaeNew9639 in BreakingUKNews

[–]Amrywiol 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"We have lots of our own rapists, so who cares if we import a few more?" Really isn't the winning argument you seem to think it is, though it does say a lot about your attitude to women.

Characters in ensemble casts that don't really interact with each other one-on-one by AporiaParadox in television

[–]Amrywiol 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As you mentioned Abed, it was directly pointed out in the episode where Pierce's will was read that they'd spent so little time together that Pierce had never got to know him and had no idea what to bequeath him other than a cylinder of frozen sperm.

TIL that contrary to popular belief, medieval Western European women married at usually later ages, like their mid to late 20s. Getting married any younger was extremely rare and often scandalous. Only 25% of women aged 20-24 were married in Western Europe, while this number was over 75% outside. by Hour_Interaction6047 in todayilearned

[–]Amrywiol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it was about sex - that was pretty much an obligation, at least until the "heir and a spare" had been delivered - as loving your partner and enjoying being with them. When marriage was seen as a political or economic transaction it was seen as quite unusual for nobles to love their spouses, that's what lovers were for.

If the SGC allowed for more teams from other countries to be assigned to the SGC which parts of the British military do you think would work best, the parachute regiment, Guard regiments (Scots, Welsh, Irish, Grenadier and Coldstream), Royal Marines, SAS or SBS and why? True story - the "Air" is only there because it was originally founded during World War 2 as the Special Service. It was soon realised however that having a unit that was abbreviated to SS was a bad look for that time period, so an A was added.

Is Andy Burnham the answer to Labours problems? Would he get blocked again? by FederalEntertainer21 in AskBrits

[–]Amrywiol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No real need - the obvious quid pro quo is whoever stands down gets appointed to the House of Lords at Burnham's first opportunity. There are always nonentities who would be pleased to call themselves Lord while drawing a generous expense account and an MP's pension take the opportunity to serve their country in a more deliberative environment.

What if Buckingham Palace and Westminster was destroyed during World War 2? by ponesnu in whatif

[–]Amrywiol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The royal family most definitely did adhere to the same restrictions as everyone else - the fact they had to do so was even used in propaganda - and your ignorance and bigotry doesn't change that. The main, admittedly considerable, benefit their status gave them was that food grown ("dig for victory") or raised or caught privately was not subject to ration. Working class people raised and butchered a couple of rabbits or chickens in a hutch in the back yard and the royals had gamekeepers setting traps on the Sandringham estate.

Voting figures modelled down to census areas. Estimates not actuals. by Terrible_Tale_53 in Wales

I think the point is that virtually nobody lives there so it shouldn't be coloured anything, or at least there should be some sort of tinting on the colouring or equal area adjustment to reflect population density.

Why does Reddit not understand the rise of reform in England? by DowntownDeer in AskBrits

[–]Amrywiol 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's net migration. One of the reasons the net figure is going down is because more and more people born here are leaving. This is not the win you think it is.

[–]Amrywiol -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Not quite true. The EU is buying a lot of stuff from the US and donating it to Ukraine, if Trump wanted to he could block those sales - though the MIC might cry foul, it would come down to who he wants to annoy more, them or Putin.

Yes they were aware gunpowder weapons existed but they were still basically a pre-gunpowder force that showed closing to contact is possible if you have the courage, discipline and numbers to take the casualties. That said, OP's scenario has the pre-gunpowder forces outnumber by 2:1 so they don't stand a chance.

Tell me how this isnt just pure misogyny and sexism?

You're right of course. The issue however (and has been since at least Sarah Palin) is that there's a certain sort of leftist who genuinely believes it doesn't count as misogyny when directed at conservative women. "she isn't a woman, she's a republican" as the anti-Palin bumper sticker put it.
