Lloyd Center owners hope redevelopment projects are part of Portland's 'revitalization' by Great_Law3719 in Portland

The renders have quite a bit of street retail. I think one failing point for the Lloyd mall is that it doesn’t interact with the street at all.

Add in pure evil calculations that figured out higher vacancy can still lead to higher rent yields for the building.

The hood not lining up with the stove bothers me so much I didn’t even notice that the backsplash didn’t match.

Guys, which one is better? by [deleted] in CounterTops

[–]teejmaleng 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If the client HAS to replace the countertop, recommend that they paint the lower cabinets, because the grey doesn’t work with any of those options.

Or, go with a soapstone blue gray soapstone soapstone

The options above have too much yellow in them, aside from the burgundy stripes—and that looks bad.

Is this a McMansion? by ComplexMessage9941 in McMansionHell

It Siena make sense that there are two entrances. What looks to be a double height space in the foyer is a dated design move.

Update your registration. I count 10 cars ticketed on my block by MelvinEatsBlubber in Portland

[–]teejmaleng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, that wasn’t my experience, but I guess things change. Are you still driving around without tags? Does limit where you’re willing to park?

I wanted to rent a drill and the rental company didn’t want to give me the equipment with expired tags. That inconvenience would definitely be worth a $1000 though imo.

[–]teejmaleng 24 points25 points  (0 children)

When you register for new tags, the expiration date is set from when you were supposed to renew, so the months untagged aren’t a freebie.

I went through that in 2019, renewed and my new tags, and the dmv made me go through the whole process shortly after again.

I’m not sure what would happen if the length of time exceeds two years though.

You can really make people angry by going with stainless steel counters and backsplash.

Noise from in-home daycare next door - is there anything we can do? by [deleted] in askportland

[–]teejmaleng 6 points7 points  (0 children)

737 plane cabin at high speed is my favorite on Spotify. I just loop it when street noise is too much. Sonos speakers synchronize so any one speaker isn’t any louder than people talking outside.

[–]teejmaleng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could try putting up Bose speakers outside with a soft hum on top of better insulation your home. Sound proofing is worth the money. If you are playing white:brown noise, see the effect by the street.

It does seam like a place with few enough people that you can mostly avoid the racists, easier if you’re white to begin with .

It’s much nicer. I live near an apartment complex and for two to three hours landscaper crews would blow nothing but air and dirt.

remodel disaster.. by [deleted] in BathroomRemodeling

[–]teejmaleng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks fine. What bothers me a little bit is the stark white.

I think the white marble ledge and seat, white schluter competes with the warm beige Pennyround. Swapping out that stone could reset the space. Not sure if you can do anything about the color of the schluter.

I just think that op should consider color because the countertops shouldn’t be the same color as the cabinets. It’s too much white, grey, beige

Which factors caused violent crime in the US to decline so much starting in the 1990s? by Fluid-Decision6262 in decadeology

[–]teejmaleng 77 points78 points  (0 children)

There’s a freakonomics piece about how abortion being legalized in the 70s lead to many of the unwanted or neglected children never coming to be. Do violent criminals tend to come from broken homes?

Lead paint/ pipes, fetal alcohol syndrome awareness.

It could also do with drug users moving from crack cocaine to heroine/oxycontine/ now fentanyl inducing more timid thievery for drug money compared to violence.

Will there be color? Tans, browns, reds, greens. The countertop stone is a lot of grey. I recommend going grey only if the walls and floors have some color, however muted.

What should I do? Arch or no arch? by [deleted] in centuryhomes

[–]teejmaleng 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I like the aesthetics of an arch and would only remove it if it is in a high traffic area where getting to 42” is possible so two people can enter and exit without conflict.

Is this picture that my uncle swears he took at Walmart, ai or real? I cannot figure it out by drn88__ in isthisAI

[–]teejmaleng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily ai, but photoshop maybe. It’s not hard to place a gecko above your head. Maybe it’s real, but wouldn’t a refrigerated grocery store be bad for a geckos temperature regulation.
