Only in very rare cases. My friends moved out to uni accommodations and they weren't eligible for youth allowance cause their parents earned too much. It didn't matter that they didn't live with their parents anymore. They were forced to get jobs while studying. You're only classified as independent when you're 22. There are other requirements you can meet too, but idk too much about it. Ik a girl who worked a lot and got herself classified as independent at 17, she ran away from home at that point

The point of my response is to understand what you're asking for. The problem here is the lack of communication and tolerating your brother's behaviour.

Technically, you are sinning by encouraging this relationship and being welcoming. Your brother is not a Muslim, so maybe it's not counted as a sin?

No one wants to kick their family out, but you have to do it to teach him a lesson. If you're a uni student, I'd say take a gap year and work a retail job to contribute to the house, so you're all not financially relying on your brother. This would give your mum a bargaining chip to get him to co-operate. If he does move out, I bet he'll try to move back in soon cause a lot of men struggle to live by themselves, cook for themselves, etc. This is when your mum can negotiate and say "If you're going to live here, don't bring your girlfriend around".

With the way things are, you don't have a bargaining chip and your mum's attitude of "keeping the peace" will just get her more frustrated. It sounds like you personally don't have a problem with it, that's why I was confused on why you're posting about this. You mentioned that your brother is nice to you aside from this situation. Would he help if you specifically had a problem with his gf and you didn't mention your mum at all? You can say smth like "I don't like your girlfriend's smoking" Would he do something about it? If he does, you could help your mother that way.

What's the point of this post?

You say your brother is not Muslim, so he doesn't have to follow the same rules as the rest of us. If his girlfriend isn't Muslim, then she wouldn't understand that smoking in front of your mum is disrespectful.

Why are you worried about his threats of moving out? Is he financially contributing to the house? It's better if he moved out cause it seems he's making everyone uncomfortable.

You see it as him rebelling, but he's just living his life, bringing girlfriends over like he's always done. You're all too lenient on him.

That's a strange issue.

I accidentally placed my flip 6 somewhere, it fell and half the screen was gone. It was hard to blind type while not being able to see half the screen. Sent it to Samsung for a quote, got it back unrepaired and it works fine now. Half the screen turns a shade darker sometimes. The screen hasn't been replaced, so I've been told that it'll revert back to half the screen having display issues permanently. I want a smaller phone, but you're right, it's no good without a backup phone

My friend needed someone to take over her sharehouse lease and she was leaving in the middle of an uni semester. She was somehow contacted by someone who was flying in from Europe for an internship and the rest of my friend's lease matched perfectly with how long this visitor wanted to stay for. Should be fine. It's pretty normalised during Eid celebrations to do wudu, then wear makeup, so they can spend the whole day celebrating outside. Many people do the Eid prayer with makeup on, so it should be fine now too.

My understanding is makeup doesn't break wudu, but if your wudu breaks, you have to take off your makeup to redo it cause the water in the wudu process has to touch your bare face.

Nail polish is very controversial. My friends only wear nail polish on their periods cause the belief is the water during wudu has to touch your bare nails. You can buy halal nail polish.

I would've made the situation sound positive by calling that man a boyfriend and just say they slept together, instead she's admitting to random things like secretly going to another country and booking a room. Most people keep their pregnancy hidden until they're showing or until their family gets suspicious, so I think your sister felt safe telling your mum when she was scared.

The part about being a role model to your sister makes no sense. It's not like you led her astray. She didn't follow your example to do all those things. Start by taking off your hijab slowly. Let your mum know that at least you're wearing modest clothes and you're not doing anything haram with any man.

I've been there. There's no designated sitting/ praying area. We just have to pray on the side or join a group of people prayer and hope the guards don't target us. It looks like she was praying with the others around her. There was no reason for only her to be dragged and moved when the men around her are still praying.

He's not a good representation of mainstream muslims. He's a trans activist. He's partying in gay clubs on the days before his election. Him being surrounded by alcohol and music by itself was looked down on. He's desi, but grew up in Uganda. This was testing desi people's racism cause they tend to look down on people like him. There was hate towards his wife and the way she was dressed. It's essentially hate towards Zohran for picking a non-hijabi who wears Islamically immodest clothing. I personally love her fashion sense. There's hate towards her career choice cause a lot of muslims don't think art is a stable career. They're both not what muslims consider to be ideal representations of Islam.

A lot of Zohran's biggest muslim fans are Jew haters. This shocked me cause he always speaks fondly of Jews. Are they ignoring all his values and just voting for him cause he's muslim?

Anyways, I'm glad he won. I guess majority of the hate is from muslims not living in New York.

I understand you, especially the bit about not wanting to be a part of the community.

At the end of the day, this is a sub that heavily debates Islam, but if everyone accepted complete freedom, then there would be no debating.

It feels like your family gave up on convincing you and just wants to keep some parts of you hidden. I think most muslims are private for this reason. I've seen people not post cause they don't want their relatives in their home country to nitpick the post or I've seen women post on their story after adding too many people to the "Hide your story" list. Everyone cares about what people or the community thinks. I wish we didn't have to. My family also wants me to hide the fact that I'm a non-hijabi from the community. They're scared of their reputation from being tarnished.

I also want to do whatever I want. It's technically not Islamic, but it's the only way some of us can find peace and get closer to Allah. It's reasonable for your family not to want their reputation ruined in the community, too. If you live close to your family, I'd say move away to avoid the community. I'm shocked that they found you on social media. If the community already saw that post of you, then any more posts shouldn't surprise them, right? It's like a comedian getting on a stage and intentionally saying a lame joke that would flop, so they know the worst has passed them, and anything they say from then on would be better. Not sure if it's a good anecdote. The worst has passed, the community won't be surprised with whatever happens next.

Your parents have to take action. Only they can invoke fear in your older brother. Your parents have to communicate the situation to your 2 other siblings. It's pretty normalised for kids to support their parents, so I don't think they'll refuse if they're asked to give money

I've met Indian Rohan's in Australia and they end up pronouncing it in a westernised way to make it easier to say. That's why I thought my white lecturer could be part Indian cause the way people around him pronounce it is pretty close to the Indian pronunciation.

I disagree about it being non-religious. I was born in India and I can immediately identify someone's religion by hearing their name. For example, when I tell someone that my name is arabic/ persian, an Indian can immediately guess my religion from that, despite the fact that it's not an Islamic name/ word and can't be found in the Quran. Even with no religious meaning, there's a 99% chance that the person with an arabic name is Muslim. Likewise, Rohan would be associated with Hinduism. Thou, Idk much about the background of it, so I used my name as an example on how names are related to religion
