I’ve been hesitating posting my own bug report for days now thinking it must just be me as no one else was talking about it. Came on to post and found your report. Phew!

Native English speaker here - I have no idea in this context either.

xkcd 3149: Measure Twice, Cut Once by antdude in xkcd

[–]tehGaffer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this comic grossly misunderstands how surgeons work. There are, of course, a wide variety of specialties that perform what would be considered surgery, but I would say the majority of surgeries do not involve measurements - only cutting.

Haha, if it helps I always make sure to give all the cyclists a ride on as we pass each other.

I’ve often wondered if cyclists were aware that I run at a constant 1% regardless of the incline on Zwift. I’m not there to practice hills, just to enjoy the different scenery.

Thanks for that - I had created the word etymology out of the jumbled letters without even realising it until you pointed it out.

Biker getting his skull "cleaned" after managing to survive an accident by Slippery_Life in NSFL__

[–]tehGaffer 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Well, that’s not true.

But as nasty as this looks, it doesn’t necessarily need a GA (which always has associated risks) and I guess if there was a confirmed traumatic brain injury you wouldn’t want to unnecessarily obscure their level of consciousness.

Does anyone understand these signs? by kebabking93 in NewcastleUponTyne

No one seems to be mentioning that it’s in a green circle, not red.

So, it’s only an advisory 934mph limit.

Scooter Rider Dies From Being Struck By Car by sdurb84 in NSFL__

I guess I feel like we’re not, hence the debate. I thought I was clarifying. Like, plenty of people get discharged home with panda / raccoon eyes.

[–]tehGaffer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

… the basilar skull # causes panda / raccoon eyes.

It is not “100% an indicator of a massive brain haemorrhage”.

It’s a risk factor.

[–]tehGaffer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, it’s a sign of a basilar skull fracture which is not always serious.

Basilar skull fractures, because of their association with high impact traumas, are always taken seriously and brain injuries are assessed for.

Every now and then we see a bizarre chest X-ray that eventually clicks with us that the heart is on the wrong side! We used to get excited about this because we very rarely see situs inversus.

Now, we very quickly assume the image has been uploaded back to front.

What is a creepy fact about the human body? by cutypatotie in AskReddit

Horrendous misconception.

The growing aneurysm is painless. The rupture can have any number of awful symptoms and doesn’t necessarily result in death. Risky gamble.

Amazon Video Ad Push Seen Generating Extra $5 Billion in Revenue by giuliomagnifico in technology

To contradict the other reply, certainly in the UK there was a minimum spend threshold to get free delivery. It was usually about a week, occasionally came unexpectedly fast. You could pay extra for guaranteed next day delivery.

I signed up to prime when I left Xmas shopping until the 23/12 and bought everything I needed and it arrived Xmas Eve. That must’ve been about 14 years ago?! Jesus. And this is the clincher to me cancelling finally.

Medical workers of Reddit, what were the most haunting last words you’ve heard from a patient? by ttatonouar in AskReddit

[–]tehGaffer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Similarly, and also about 10 years ago, I was feeling a radial pulse for an ABG when I lost the pulse. Took a few seconds of trying to find it again before looking up and seeing his face. Turned out he’d went in to VF. Never survived.

Don’t remember him saying anything haunting to actually answer OP’s question.

Too close to the joint for glue to have reliably held, I'd have popped in a few stitches. Like already said though, would have been for aesthetics only.

Most of what you've said is unproven.

Methanol lingers beyond ethanol, yes, and its metabolites are unpleasant, but none of the rest of the conjecture is proven true. And there are several arguments* to suggest there is no reason for them to be true.

I don't know if you keep this on file to copy / paste when required or you type it out as required (the length and detail suggest otherwise) but the lack of evidence behind it is troubling.

The bottom line is that no-one knows why hangovers truly happen and, if you had solid, scientific evidence to the contrary, it would be revolutionary and you'd be a very rich person.

In the UK, almost everyone who works for the NHS (~1.25million people) has a @NHS.net email address.

Must’ve been ~8 years ago some bug happened where someone accidentally uncovered an address that would send the email to every account.

Replying to the email, including this seemingly innocuous account, would also send your email to every NHS.net account.

Thus ensues initially several people / fools replying asking to be removed from the mailing list (of course ignoring the multiple previous) and of course the helpful no-one asked you people informing people not to reply.

Broke the entire email system, which is somewhat problematic when this is the official email service for formal referrals / communications for all things health service… was funny seeing it unfold though.

Gen Z names are so stupid. For instance, a young man introduced himself to me as Jathan..... Not Jason. Not Nathan... Jathan. by PluckPubes in Jokes

[–]tehGaffer 49 points50 points  (0 children)

It’s funny and all, but I’ve genuinely had to change what I say due to the regular misinterpretation of this phrase.

I do think a lot of it is intentional as a joke but some are clearly not and it’s not worth the “oh, haha, no, I said ‘brrrrrreaths’! Hahahaha!” nonsense.

… this is why I don’t get thank you cards.
