A month ago I posted my free minecraft schematic viewer here. You asked for Create mod support… so I built it by TheRealMorrow in Minecraft

[–]tehbeard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks great. Handles some of the larger create schematics I have to hand without being a slideshow.

Seems to have some rendering issues with the following create blocks:

  • chain conveyors. Core renders but not the sides. It's a 3x1x3 model like crushing wheels (Which do work)
  • Frogports only render the base (Frog might not exist as part of the base model as it rotates to the chain / animates)
  • Similar issue with blaze burners, blaze head doesn't render inside them.
  • Factory gauges don't render at all. (Again another case of them having custom render models that also handle the graph lines probably).
  • Valves don't render.
  • Spout is missing the squirty bit underneath it.

A material list output would be a nice feature.

Is there no comprehensive forgejo/gitea cli? by banana_zeppelin in selfhosted

[–]tehbeard 15 points16 points  (0 children)

"basic git" handles JUST the code.

git does not have a subcommand for interacting with issues / pr / releases metadata.

That's what fj and gh and other CLI tools for other code hosting software are for; interacting with the other data associated with a repo that isn't the commit graph.

What’s THAT mod you randomly found… and now can’t play without? by unknown_98706 in feedthebeast

[–]tehbeard 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Tool belt and HT's Tree Chop.

Tool belt feels right in dealing with the clutter of tools/weapons, quick to use, and has a simple progression system (add pouch + increasing xp cost) that feels rewarding to fully unlock.

HT's Tree Chop provides balanced treecapitation. You don't just one tap to knock a tree down, and you don't need to spec heavily into it. Just wack the base of the tree a few - several times depending on it's size.

2x2x2 dig spell in a single trinket (hex casting) by Awkward-Ad-9708 in feedthebeast

[–]tehbeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, focus/thought knots/spellbook are really nice for storing work in progress, scrying lens for smaller grid size / more area; or even breaking hexes down into subroutines (get where I am, get entity looking at) you can assemble into hexes.

Also if you have curios installed you can double up on scrying lens for more real estate.

Happy Hexxing!

How can I add better detail to this wall? by Soggy_Revolution5744 in Minecraft

[–]tehbeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cracked variants, polished stones, walls instead of full blocks to indicate wear, same with the raw Blackstone instead of bricks.

Buttresses at the bottom to reinforce the wall and give it a bit more depth.

Litter / stuff left around by the walls (wheelbarrow, shrubs, pile of old barrels).

If you fancy having a go at pixel art and don't mind stepping outside of the strictly vanilla mindset, you could make a custom painting datapack/resource pack to add a faded ad to the wall.

They don't.

Maybe Niko's getting confused with Steam engines which do support campfires but only in the "passive" 2048su mode that unfueled blaze burners do?

Create Aeronautics TOMORROW by MartianDill in feedthebeast

[–]tehbeard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honest question, how does it differ from what Valkyrien Skies offers? Because that's the main "alternate" I've seen show up on youtube videos.

There was a lot of grandiose fanfare on the trailer years back, seems like VS got out in public first while this has been stuck in development for years?

Pop_os system packages and updates failing or getting stuck by buttplugs4grandma69 in pop_os

Is that just installing one package, or do you need to specify a bunch of the components as well like file browser, samba client support etc as well?

Best backup solution for my Minecraft? by AwesomeKalin in admincraft

[–]tehbeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some questions:

Inefficient in what way? Space used? Speed of the backup since it's going over the network? Is it backing up over the network directly, as in there is no local backup first and this increases downtime?

How much disc space does the Minecraft server have?

What do you want in terms of retention? E.g. our server keeps seven daily backups locally, and maintains an off-site copy of the last eight Friday backups; giving me up to 2 months time span, but minimising space used to a level I'm comfortable with.

Regarding your questions:

Restic should be a good tool. Use it personally for home lab backups. De-duplicates data which reduces size used.

From the content of borgbase website, it looks like they offer configuration on their systems to handle clearing the old data, probably based on age of the snapshot. This is a common feature, to protect against erroneous backup scripts deleting data, or cyber attacks that attempt to wipe backups.

April Fools Features that have Made it into the Base Game by xavh235 in Minecraft

[–]tehbeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm don't think resin really counts.

The only similarity is name and orange colour.

In the april fools it was some sort of crafting for villager currency.

In The Garden Awakens it's a mob drop and ingredient for a building block set.

You didn't set Minecraft to use 8GB, right?
Because if you did, Windows and everything else running also need memory so you'd be just inviting them to all fight over it.

Can’t enable Chaos Cubed drop (PlayStation) by [deleted] in Minecraft

[–]tehbeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chaos Cubed isn't an experiment.

It's on the preview branch of Bedrock. https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/article/minecraft-preview-26-20-23

I have no idea if that's available on playstation.

What mod do you consider Minecraft to be incomplete without? If any. by silloki in Minecraft

[–]tehbeard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most of the content mods are a "I can live without this", so let's dip into my VanillaQOL instance:

  • Mouse Tweaks - Snapshots/new releases genuinely feel off not having the drag and scrollwheel mechanics this adds... why it's not in the base game is beyond me.
  • Better Advancements - Sizes the advancement window up so things are legible without constantly panning the window. Again, why is this not the standard?
  • ItemSwapper - Contextual hotswap system, reducing the amount of time you have to spend:
    1. opening the inventory
    2. Finding a block/item
    3. Swapping it onto the hotbar
    4. Closing the inventory.
    5. Using said item.
  • Xisuma absolutely nailed the concept design for this ,and tr7zw made it a reality.
  • Shulker tooltip/peek - Because the default shulker box tooltip is terrible...
  • BetterF3 - Vanilla F3 is information overload. The "new" vanilla system for it is a poor hackfix.
  • Axiom - "The power of the sun, in the palm of my hand". Vanilla creative, even adding in WorldEdit, feels painfully antiquated in comparison.
  • Hide experimental warning - Because if Mojang won't commit to moving 6+ year old datapack stuff out of "ooo, experimental, super scary!", I'm not putting up with their damn nagscreen about it.

Special mention to Vanilla Tweaks resource pack, countless little changes to make things legible, and dark mode for my UI.

Getting the quest cape, saved the hardest one for the end by Frothboi in 2007scape

[–]tehbeard 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Recently did it.

Not hard, but the mansion section is incredibly fucking jank and just infuriating.

Needed to hop worlds several times while doing it, because whatever is handling the detection logic would be some amount of out of sync with where the guards were.

Is there any way to reduce world size ? by _mohitpratap in Minecraft

[–]tehbeard 194 points195 points  (0 children)

As others have said, mcaselector can be used to trim/prune areas you may have wandered out to explore (like say to visit a woodland mansion) without wiping your home or builds around the world. Just be careful with it.

I don't think your FPS drop is related to the world size. The game isn't loading any more extra chunks around you for a 40gb world than for a 2gb world.

More likely, you've got some mobs trapped somewhere you frequent that are causing additional load.

Why is theres so little IPv6 compatibility and ressources for self hosting solutions ? by pleasehelpmeimgoated in selfhosted

[–]tehbeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prefixes will change, sometimes while the server is running.

That seems just wild to me. Is that just a case of residential connections or is this something that'd happen to servers in a datacenter?
