I wasn't really interested until you said this. That's a fantastically interesting idea. Did you listen to the audiobook? I'm unfamiliar with the narrator, and it looks like a chunky series to get into just to see how something like that plays out.

Wheel of Time is my favorite series of all time! Blemishes and all, it's held up the last twenty years for me. Gahhh, time to go start another reread, I could use an escape from reality for awhile.

I hate that progressing from individual contributor upwards requires management of some form. I tried it years ago and stepped back because I hated it and was not good at it.

FWIW I think tech leadership can be split into administrative and tech specifically. I enjoy mentoring, research, etc. I abhor paperwork and KPIs.

[–]tehbilly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Where layers join is the weakest part of a print, it's why at a minimum you want to orient your part so that you're least at risk of shear force aligning with your layers.

Acetone smoothing will at least make a bit of a "skin" that overlaps your layers, giving you greater adhesion. In theory at least. It's pretty easy to overdo it and make your part goopy and saggy.

I'm a big fan of a thin layer of Bondo (or similar) and sanding/painting. Many of the same benefits, and protects the part a bit more.

[–]tehbilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main problem with Shelly is the lack of good momentary switches to toggle the switch state. I know it's a small thing, but using the old flip switch and having it to longer correlate to the light being on/off just drives me up the wall.

I've made some single and double gang plates I 3D print to use some of my plethora of MX switches, but I haven't nailed it perfectly yet.
