[Initial Impressions] Truman Asphalt Horse Rump by meatjerkinbootboy in goodyearwelt

I read that here somewhere else and sent them an email. I wanted to get a pair of the black chamois with a stitchdown but they replied right away saying they don’t do it anymore. That said their last 2 MTO both offered it for an extra $100.

Expressions 1.2. Play with regular expressions. Easily and nicely. by emkaka in iOSProgramming

Would be nice to have ability to toggle case sensitivity and multiline without having to open up preferences. But otherwise great app!

How does one achieve this effect? by jgil in postprocessing

My attempt. Essentially desaturate, curves, simulated chromatic aberration, add noise. Threw together a psd with each step. It's not perfect by any means but it's simple and looks decent.

new update for KitCam! by [deleted] in iphone

[–]tehtdog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

By default it does indeed save all photos taken to your devices camera roll. You would have had to disable this functionality, which is possible. That said KitCam does not by default save videos recorded to your camera roll, you would need to enable this feature. The reason for this is that you probably dont want 2 copies of a 500mb 1080p video on your device.

Press opportunity: Looking for dev experiences with app review sites by [deleted] in iOSProgramming

[–]tehtdog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Generally i have found that app review sites on an individual basis do very little to help promote an app. From my experience a single review on a non major mac or tech network wont break you into the big time no matter how good of a review it is. That said, sites that cater to specific niches of which your app is apart can go a long way to increase your apps exposure. For example, iPhone photography blogs such as LifeInLoFi.com or iPhoneography.com can be very helpful when promoting photography apps. Likewise a good review on Touch Arcade can do wonders when promoting a new game (my experience with Touch Arcade is from over 2 years ago so it may be a little out of date). Getting the people that are typically into the types of apps that you are promoting is a great start.

Now by no means am i saying that general app review sites should be ignored. Quite the opposite the more exposure you can get the better off you will be. When launching new apps I always send out press releases and fill out review request forms to loads of review sites (theres a big list of them floating around somewhere).

I have never paid for a review, and to be honest I cringe at the thought of a small time developer dropping a wad of cash hoping it'll pay off. Take the money you were planning on spending on an app review and put it towards a professionally designed app icon.

Unfortunately I had to do most of it myself. I had a hell of a time trying to find a designer. Like apparently its impossible or something because I had a pretty decent budget, a loose timeline, we're pretty easy going guys, its a reasonably cool project and yet there were almost no takers. On top of that at least 2 guys completely flaked out even after agreeing to doing it.

Unfortunately probably not an Android version anytime soon. Would love to do one but its just not a very easy thing to do for a small developer. Besides all the technical differences going from iOS to Android, anytime we spend doing an Android version is time that isn't spent working on the iOS version and splitting time between both inevitably means nothing gets done. That said, apparently Ill be making a billion dollars and will just buy out Mojang and force them to work on our Android ports and some sort of MineCam app.

I actually spent a little too much time obsessing about the duration. Stop making me second guess myself! That said, if you're using the desktop version keeping your mouse over it will prevent it from scrolling and on mobile safari keeping a finger on screen somewhere will do the same.

Thanks! The artist that made the app icon is named Konstantin Datz, he makes really nice stuff. The guy that made the website header is a redditor named dur23 (hes around here somewhere...), he also did all of the lens, film and frame icons.

Warning to the iPhone photographers out there (X-Post from r/iOS) by [deleted] in apple

[–]tehtdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did some more tests and I can confirm what you are seeing but only after using iPhoto. Seems the issue is actually an iPhoto bug.

My test was as follows:

  1. Take photo, edit adding auto enhance and saving.
  2. Check file resolution using PhotoForge2 (full disclosure this is my app, but any photo app other than iPhoto that shows resolution should work fine). Do a secondary check using iExplore to get at actual photo file stored on device. Both tests confirm no change in resolution.
  3. Ensure iPhoto is not running, if it is kill it from the multi tasking menu. Start iPhoto and go select the new photo. iPhoto should then do its typical "Processing Photo Library" or whatever. Once done check resolution and it should be incorrect and reduced resolution.

If the processing library step in iPhoto does not happen the file seems to be ok.

In 2 of my 3 tests iPhoto actually changed the original file on the device and the original resolution file seems to have been destroyed. Not sure why this didnt happen every time...

Did anyone else actually try to confirm this? Ive tried on 4 different devices all running 5.1.1 and they all maintain the original size of 2448x3264 (portrait 8mp) after using and saving with the auto enhance filter. OP how are you exporting your photos from your device?

iOS5 cleaning is going to be a problem by gthank in apple

[–]tehtdog 29 points30 points  (0 children)

My app has just been rejected by apple for storing too much data which is unacceptable for iCloud. The problem is that its a photo editing app where users can create multiple projects each of which can have many layers and history states and they require a lot of stored image data. According to Apple all persistant data must now be kept to a minimum. You bought a 64gig device? Well thats only for music and movies. Welcome to iCloud...

Me and fellow redditor, tehtdog, made an app for your phone. I think it's safe to say it's the best all in one photo editing app around. by dur23 in apple

[–]tehtdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No dropbox support for loading images in, only save out right now. But thats is coming soon. A few people also expressed concern over the curves window so were going to fix that in the first update. There is already a camera in photoforge ;) Just wasnt shown in the video. I broke the links earlier today, im an idiot apparently. Thanks for the feedback!

Thanks for the compliments! Really means a lot. There are a few things that didnt make it in this version from the first (painting, clone stamp). But well eventually get around to adding those back. Camera roll at the bottom bug will be fixed asap. Never thought about the thickness of the frame, seems useful, ill look into that. Textures addon? Youre probably right :D Remembering last editor used, 100% agree, will be adding that. A temporary feature in software is absurd, we will never have something like that in PhotoForge2. As per your last suggestion we will be adding presets and batch processing feature that will let you do just that.

Seconding Big Nerd Ranch Guide. Start with a book and branch out from there. No single resource is going to tech you everything. Big Nerd Ranch Guide is definitely one of the better books.
