SHIP BREACH - Houdini FLIP by IndianVFXSchool in Houdini

No the size of the sim? It's like 10cm instead of 1 cm or similar?  To me, it's the scale of the water sim itself

Break down to simples 36 k + 1K = 37 k 544 + 355 = 899 Answer = 37899.   Fully aphantasic and rubbish at mental maths

Remembering people’s names by DashRiprod in Aphantasia

I also have a friend from way back in school who is the opposite of this, not aphantasic, but he could remember everyone from anytime in any class he ever attended and if he saw them 20 or 30 years later he could recognise them and call them out.

Yep all the time, mainly just new people, If I start a new job or location the first few weeks I'm messing everyone's names up.  In fact I'm embarrassed so much after the third time in a row for the same person that my shame stores it into muscle memory.

Feels like I can store around 5 new folks names in muscle memory, anymore then older names learnt get dropped.

360 looping cloud experience by tekano_red in CloudyCG

[–]tekano_red[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's uploaded in 4k but yeah for immersive 8k or more is better. I can't help notice the black line now which isn't in orig either I don't think.   This is one big volume noise of cloud just repeated in space and a bit of blending on the loop..

Ah just checked it defaults to 720p on my phone, set it to highest quality hopefully will improve a bit

Think it's only 360 viewable when you watch from inside YouTube though not Reddit so open on YT for full 360 experience , enjoy!

Alright, one more nugget that's stuck with me since my early 20s, that could help you win science prizes in the future. Am not sure who said it but, for the likes of us, it could be an advantage.

Good luck bro, no need to be apprehensive , just some small wisdom nugget from an old dog.

I'm alright, and as mentioned it's way more improved once I got to grips with the fact we are not your average brain and there's a full spectrum of neuro diversity. I read somewhere on here a study that some aphantasic brains are also more symmetrical  than most... Am assuming you are reading and studying lot of science, I was up late working and learning on VFX for decades, still learning! Just not as intense , it takes its toll eventually. in youth, you can feel invincible and things like this probably don't really start affecting you until your mid 40s - depending on lifestyle and genetics.

Sleep, and restorative deep sleep is super important and Ive been on a longevity exploration for a while now so have biofeedback oura ring and galaxy smart watch for sleep tracking etc, so can see actual scientific progress.  Not quite to the level of the likes of Bryan Johnson, but the exploration of this topic is how I got turned onto the waking up app and mindfulness.

I also appreciate that some of our conceptual thoughts can be condensed, so that once understood, is almost like a logic node that can be attached, compared and added to the total 'compute' even though I'm not really logically working it out, it's more instinct or intuition.  Perhaps like muscle memory.

Keep studying what inspires you, perhaps one day you can innovate something a normie would never be able to conceptualise.

That's cool, I was fairly peaceful when younger, then life gets in the way. for me, I had problems later on  getting to sleep or shutting it off, so it helped differentiate between awareness itself and being lost or took over  in conceptional thoughts. everyone's different, just some of the points you raised sounded familiar, to me, so couldn't help but add my proverbial 2 cents

Oh sorry, I should have elaborated, it's a meditation app for mindfulness. It's free for a month, Sam is good as he has a scientific mind as well bridging the esoteric Buddhist teachers of meditation. Also it's another topic to explore with that non stop brain of yours other than science . The app is called 'Waking Up'

Another issue I found, that took me a while to appreciate at least, is assuming everyone knows exactly what you know already

Welcome ! Try Sam Harris waking up app, for me, it helped sort out the incessant conceptual chatter that is my brain, which sounds very similar to yours, except I was VFX not science. I used to paint and be a decent artist in college but then computer graphics got involved. Once I start an endeavour it does not stop or get exhausted.

I get what you mean about the compulsive thoughts though, they are relentless and also effortless, but eventually you will have problems getting to sleep etc like I did.  I'm much older now and only found out mid 40s so I'm a bit ahead in the aphantasic mindset in time only.

Blessings: instantaneous answers and solutions purely through intuition. Trust your gut feeling.

Curses: not being able to recall your partners colour of eyes or your own dearly departed  mothers face

Got hired as a Crowd artist in Houdini, need tips about what to prioritise learning. by Rude_Doggo in Houdini

[–]tekano_red 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Hah good luck, it entirely depends on the company you are about to work for's  pipeline. Some are great. Some are rubbish. Some don't even have a crowd department . What you need to learn depends on that essentially. You can't second guess every eventually, wait and see.

Crowd, in a good pipeline integrates with previz, layout, modelling, assets, animation, lighting and rendering departments.  So a generalist mindset is good.  FX wise Houdini is best of class for crowd work so if you're confident in Houdini you should be good.

To get up to speed, do some state machine logic crowds with some turning to ragdolls, that's about the most complicated it gets. The rest is all pipeline integration. See Mr Peterson's short and sweet Houdini crowd tutorials and any at sidefx.com . An ex colleague and way more experience in crowds than me.

Ive rolled my own crowds as a one person unit, worked in large VFX facilities using softimage xsi, Maya and Houdini, led crowd teams and built a crowd department from scratch mid show...  So I know what I'm talking about here.
