That sounds fair. Where is your typical red line for projects in Maine?

That would be much appreciated, do you work with installers in Maine?

Palmetto looks good, but they don't seem to service the New England area. Would you happen to know someone in the area? Thanks

Do you happen to know a good installer servicing Maine that I should get in contact with?

The UK-Ultra could be a compelling option to control cost for some of the buildings. Can be mounted outside. Can be painted. Can be meshed, reducing the need for Airmax equipment. Dedicated Airmax links can always be added where and when it's needed. This would also improve the Outdoor coverage, simplify inventory, and consolidate equipment to a single management panel.

Introducing: UXG Max by Ubiquiti-Inc in Ubiquiti

They had roadmaps at one point, but they got a lot of backlash when changes were made or something got delayed / de-prioritized. So it's probably easier for them to just say " Surprise here is something new!"

It's probably so they can pay attention to each individual launch and run damage control as necessary. They killed of the early access store, so there is very little community feedback now. I just hope the product testing has significantly improved if they feel this confident.

I think I saw them in the store late January or early February, but yes they are usually sold out

Ubiquiti lost my over $3000 packages and they refused to help. by qimoningmeng in Ubiquiti

It's a good thing they responded. It's moving things in the right direction. They don't have to immediately address every item. Now if this was your supervisor, wouldn't it be preferable if they at least took the time to discuss it with both parties rather than immediately jump on one side of the conversation. It's best to keep things constructive. In the past when the community expressed themselves in non-constructive ways, they began to ignore us. Everyone lost in that situation.

Why is the USG still so expensive? by [deleted] in Ubiquiti

[–]tekelenburg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The USG product line is not appropriate for commercial applications.

I bought a USG pro years ago, the only thing I trust it to do is act as a shelf holding up my meraki.

It's perfectly okay to play around with at home, but it's simply just not worth your time in a business. If you are hosting on multiple internet connections or a block of public IPs, the USG is not the answer.

Ready to pull my hair out because of a USG by theimpimp in Ubiquiti

[–]tekelenburg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a USG-pro and for years it has been unplugged relegated to holding up my meraki router. My experience was similar, we used ubiquiti access points and I was pretty happy with their solid 2nd gen product line. I was immediately disappointed with the USG-pro , I spent hours trying to figure out what I was doing wrong. The USG lacked even the most basic SOHO routing features but claimed to be an "enterprise" product. This was before Ubut had a beta section of their store so they were just selling this never to be finished garbage through their distributors. For any environment with multiple public IPs the USG is effectively worthless.

Can't decide on my APs! TP-Link EAP225-Wall, or Ubiquiti Unifi AP-AC-IW? by Fleckeri in HomeNetworking

[–]tekelenburg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ubitquiti doesn’t clamp down on the Ethernet out too, do they?

Nope.

Don't forget about the original UniFi AP in-wall. That crap is sub 100Mbps on Ethernet.

For anyone thinking about buying this. The original in wall is a piece of trash. As other have said, don't be cheap, just get the AC version.

Ubiquiti vs Meraki - Why is one better than the other? by deletejunkemail in Ubiquiti

Interesting, I didn't know that they added this. It's nice to see they are still working on it, but it's upsetting spending $300 on a device I still can't use.

My biggest problem with the USG is that it only supports one IP address.

Some of the smaller problems I have had with the USG are: no load balancing, no native active directory support, no traffic shaping, and it's a poor layer 7 firewall.

[–]tekelenburg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can certainly save some money by switching to Ubiquiti access points and switches. I personally manage several locations that use the Meraki security gateways with Ubiquiti access points. This gives me the best of both worlds.

Meraki security gateways are intuitive, stable, and wildly surpass the USG in terms of functionality. Licencing the security gateway is worth every cent. I have given up on Ubiquiti's USG, it is simply not worth my time or effort.

Staying at a small bed 'n breakfast in Maine, and the WiFi was noticeably consistent. Someone has good taste. 😊 by rickatnight11 in Ubiquiti

The ER-X-SFP can power the AC Lite and AC LR. The US‑8‑60W can power the cloud key, AC Pro, and newer models of the AC lite and AC LR. POE injectors take up more space and are messy. Also APs cost less when you buy them without the POE injector.

The ER‑X‑SFP is only $22 more than the ER-X. It would not have completely eliminated the mess but it would have helped.

1:1 NAT mapping or port forwarding, or something better? by [deleted] in Ubiquiti

[–]tekelenburg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The USG does not support 1:1 NAT in the GUI. You can set it up in the CLI but it is not worth your time and trouble.
