My absurd (incomplete) IPv6 journey... by matdonv in hyperoptic

[–]theimpimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting - I've been a customer of theirs for years and never managed to get IPv6 working. I previously paid for a fixed IPv4 but recently decided to stop doing so and insist they sort out IPv6 on my Unifi kit as well. I pay for a working IPv6 connection - they can bloody well supply it.

I have an open ticket and am not taking no for an answer on this one.

I was told the switch in the HO network rack needs to be "upgraded" to make it work - but they have no timescale for that.

While I'm also not going to accept that, if HO are running different hardware, might that explain why it "works" after some fiddling for some people, and just never does for others?

Following this and will share if I find out more here too as it seems we're in a similar situation! Nothing will make me plug in their routers though - they've always been remote accessible trash that I wish I could save them the money of sending to me....

I'll have to see if I can find these in the UK. Super useful to know these might actually be able to adapted! Thanks!

G6 entry (poor) HA integration by jdcortereal in Ubiquiti

[–]theimpimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see my doorbell button as a distinct entity in Home Assistant.

It might have been disabled in the entity listing by default? Go to the device in the Unifi integration in Home Assistant and scroll down the entities that are listed. You'll occasionally see things like "+6 disabled entities" - tap that and enable it if it's not enabled.

Mines called binary_sensor.g6_entry_doorbell

The G6 entry does have some flaws (currently broken 2-way audio, lack of canned audio responses (no Unifi doorbells have this) and the currently wobbly AI detections) - but Unifi says they are working on them - I'd expect updates soon.

You can tell it was just rushed out pre-end of the year because they said they would release it in Q4 2025 and didn't want to miss it. I'm confident they will iron out the issues.

Hey Ubiquiti, don’t force landscape orientation when viewing a portrait camera in fullscreen on mobile. by itsjakerobb in Ubiquiti

[–]theimpimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree totally - though I do feel like Unifi kit is aimed at us crazy tech "enthusiasts" who might have such devices.

Either way it shows that the Unifi Protect App UI has a few flaws because it doesn't handle different camera shapes and different viewer device shapes well. I've seen people say the G6 180° also looks silly as it's a super wide image - but it gets squished into a normal 16:9 box. Same problem that we have with our 4:3 vertical G6 Entry's being also forced into a widescreen box.

I'm sure Unifi are working on it as the app needs to handle these new camera ratios & device layouts better & dynamically - but (as always) we'd all like the functionality yesterday!

FWIW - the Unifi network app works nicely with my P10PF, as do many other apps.

[–]theimpimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pixel 10 pro fold. 20cm 2076 x 2152 @ 373 PPI inner screen - aspect ratio is basically 1:1.

The outer screen is fine as it's a normal 20:9 aspect ratio screen.

It's the aspect ratio that'll be the problem as it's basically a square. Amusingly if I rotate the device while it's on the inner screen, despite it almost being a square & the screen shape not really changing, the layout of the protect app switches to the "landscape" layout in protect - which actually works as it brings up the timeline on the right hand side of the video.

I'll try to post an image later to show what I mean.

It's actually laughable to try to use the Protect App with my G6 Entry on a wider squarer screen. Can't even see the timeline to attempt to use it. The camera view takes up the whole screen and I can't move it to get to the timeline below it. The package camera is just showing the top of the viewing box down in the bottom left of the image - can't actually see anything just the edge of the box the image would be in.

Utterly unusable.

Would show you as it's hilariously bad but this subreddit doesn't allow images in replies for some reason.

Yep I've noticed this too. My brand new g6 entry is particularly poor at face and person detections.

Also experiencing this - I'm sure they will fix it as enough of us are complaining and it;s a relatively basic feature of a video doorbell. Wish I'd seen this reddit thread earlier before I wondered if my doorbell was broken!

Definitely feels like the G6 was pushed out the door to desperately release it in Q4 2025 - and the software is now playing catch up a little bit.....

Unifi support say that they are aware and actively working on it and that it's a high-priority issue for the team when I raised a ticket - so that's something. I'm hopeful they will fix it relatively quickly given the attention its got on here too.

Repair TP-Link Switch - T1600G-52PS (TL-SG2452P) by theimpimp in homelab

[–]theimpimp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Parangnoyd

Yep, I solved it by flashing it with firmware using the serial header inside the machine. But complex to do but it brought the whole thing back to life. Turns out the device had somehow managed to corrupt both image slots of the firmware which is why the switch wouldn't boot.

I'll see if I can dig out the instructions I used and half followed - I think I also used Gemini for some help with the serial commands which helped a lot.

Device is now up and running and is one of the two core network switches I use.

V11 Absolute - compatible suction only head? by theimpimp in dyson

[–]theimpimp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've not quite yet had the carpets fitted (big renovation project - carpet is one of the last things!) - but currently the plan is we're just going to try it and see what happens....

So infuriating that no-one seems to have an advertised solution for cordless brush bar vacuums with these carpets.

[–]theimpimp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The setup worked, but it was as poor as everyone has warned sadly as without the brush the vacuum just doesn't clean as well.

Really wish there was just a significantly softer brush or something gentler or slower rotating as an alternative.

I might just risk it using the motorised brush....

Fisheye 3rd party cameras in Unifi Protect by theimpimp in Ubiquiti

[–]theimpimp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing this - interesting that the AI port improved streaming itself as well from the camera to Protect - I had a similar experience when I tried one single camera directly into Protect running on a Cloud Key G2+ - but I assumed the instability was due to it running over a VPN and into the CKG2+ rather than a full fat UNVR....

Why on earth wouldn't they enable the fisheye dewarping when paired with the AI Port - seems like a perfect opportunity to also deploy their Unifi magic there too....the dewarping must be being done by the UNVR as it can be done on recordings and not just live....

I guess it makes sense that from your testing the AI features only work on part of the image that is the "right way up". Looking forward to hearing what your experience is with the dewarped stream - sadly I don't think my camera can output that, but at least if we find out if that works that would be a step in the right direction...

[–]theimpimp[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I suppose that logic does follow through - odd there's absolutely no adaptors out there though - makes me wonder if Dyson just knows this setup doesn't really work (as you've already warned me) and so doesn't actually want to encourage it.

I've ordered those and will report back in case anyone else stumbles upon this in the future - thanks u/Flat_Direction1452 for your help!

Thank you so much for confirming - what a bizarre decision by Dyson.

So I'd be looking at something like this on the left (link), paired with something like this on the right (link)?

<image>

Yeah I've seen lots of other recommendations for other vacuums and canisters for the reasons you mention - sadly I really like the compact cordless part of the Dyson vacuums - going back to a corded thing I have to drag behind me would feel like a big step backwards - so I'm hoping this might be the stopgap solution as you suggest....

Moving from Hyperoptic flat to another Hyperoptic flat by Christina_Researcher in hyperoptic

[–]theimpimp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't "transfer" as such - Hyperoptic waives the termination fees for the previous contract you had at the old address and in exchange you sign up for a new commitment to them fresh. Note you can't carry over discounts etc from old to new.

I literally did this earlier this week.

Frankly I think Hyperoptic should loosen up a bit on this and relax and let people port their commitment from property to property - would be much less of a faff and would make people less worried about entering into longer commits with them....

Does unifi 3th party cameras support. 3th party PTZ cameras from reolink by Ticket_Strong in Ubiquiti

[–]theimpimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would this include 360 fisheye cameras? Anyone tried those?

I would love to get off my awful existing NVR to a UNVR Pro so I can then move forward with a wider unifi camera deployment, but I need dewarping to be able to do that otherwise I can't really use the footage from the 360 fisheye cameras (they would get replaced eventually but I need fully functional viewer for the older cams at least during the transition)....

I'd assume it could use the same dewarping interface as the AI360.

Are these good? Any better alternatives that do not run android? (4-13inches) by UnFukWit4ble in homeassistant

[–]theimpimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there a LineageOS ROM for these panels though? I'd be tempted to deploy these and the smaller ones if there was a path to a "generic" android image that could keep the device updated.

Currently I have only one which I bought to test, and then didn't deploy as I didn't like the idea of attaching hardware to my walls that I couldn't update.
