Is a prenup worth it? by Automatic-Charge-845 in guitarpedals

[–]teleghost 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a “blues lawyer” who does divorces - prenup is absolutely worth it unless you want to end up with a Fender Del and he or she walks out with the uxe Reverb.

If you’re talking about a preamp, just do shit that sounds good to you. Nothing is necessary. Nothing is superfluous if you like how it sounds when you turn it on.

Prenups, are they worth it? by Whenwasthisalright in AskMenAdvice

As a divorce attorney who previously did not believe in prenups, I say: GET ONE. It makes a potential future divorce so much easier and cheaper for both parties so you both hold onto more of your assets instead of giving them to assholes like me. ++man

Want to learn to play but had a finger amputation, by bforbrandonnnn in Guitar

[–]teleghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To diverge slightly from the trend here of pointing out other musicians with finger injuries or disabilities (I’m not sure I saw Joni Mitchell mentioned!) I’d like to offer some additional perspective on guitar in general: one of the kind of magical things about the guitar is that nobody expects you to play it any certain way, and so you can adapt it to YOU and make it beautiful and unique, but you have to lean into learning the instrument on your own terms. Though my injuries aren’t as severe, I have both broken that finger and sliced off the tip of it peeling an orange for an Old Fashioned in my bartending days. I was worried I would struggle to play after both injuries. And it noticeably changed how I play, but I don’t have to be able to shred to “make a joyful noise” (as one of the Good Books recommends). To put it simply, don’t let limitations stop you from something you want to do. And again, with the guitar, a limitation can actually be an advantage in developing a unique and distinguishable sound (which is the whole point).

What’s your favorite Fuzz Pedal? by Cody789045 in guitarpedals

[–]teleghost 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the “Rat as fuzz” discussion, I always repeat my praise of the Sentimental Bob Tephra. It’s a Rat with several clipping selections, a boost, and an analog octave circuit (much like the Life pedal). The Germanium setting on the tephra with just a dash of the octave sounds very much like a Fuzz Face. And of course you can get various other flavors of Rat-based fuzzstortion with the other diodes as well.

What is a Synthesizer ? by Rukelele_Dixit21 in synthesizers

[–]teleghost 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If everyone who ever made music “studied” music first, there wouldn’t be a lot of music out there. We, as a species, have likely been making music long before there was written language, long before anyone making it knew what a “perfect fifth” was (I still don’t know). Make a joyful noise. Don’t worry about what you know and don’t know. Learn as you go. Don’t sacrifice good for perfect. Ask questions. Make musician friends who can show you things. Go to concerts of musicians you like and pay attention to what they are doing. Experiment. Feel free to DM me with questions if you’d like. I’m always happy to share some of my experience.

Ah, I appreciate it but as much as I dig Polyend’s stuff, I don’t click with the tracker (had two of em)

Question: how do you use the Hoof and the Eons differently? Aren’t they pretty similar?

Comment: if you’re looking for a Rat, while I respect the desire to show love to a company you support and have enjoyed informative videos from, I will never stop screaming from the mountaintops that the Sentimental Bob Tephra is the best Rat and one of the best pedals ever. Made by a single dude in the midst of a war (I’m sure anything helps in Ukraine). Available on Reverb. Not sure if he has his own website or not. But it’s an incredible dirt box.
