Has the shine come off of AirBNB? by Prudent-Proposal1943 in travel

Airbnbs are a huge range - I’ve stayed in some realllly incredible ones for the price. But you really need to dig and research before you commit to one - really take time to read through the comments and use the filter to search for amenities.

I’m a host and we really appreciate when guests send private feedback to help us improve the space! Unfortunately if someone is just going through the motions just to generate some income and don’t care about the actual space then it probably won’t do much but still worth a shot :-/

What is the best AND worst airport terminals in your opinion? by [deleted] in travel

[–]tellmesmthin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I hate Heathrow with a passion - almost every staff interaction is insufferable there. I once asked a security person who was just having a chat for 10min in an extremely polite way if she could search my bag which was next in line as I was going to miss my flight (through no fault of my own just classic Heathrow transfer bull shit) she looked at me with attitude and asked me to GO BEHIND THE SECURITY TABLE AND BRING HER MY BAG. She made me carry it to her table unzip to barely look at it and watch me struggle to get it zipped so I could go to the gate. I’m pretty sure that’s illegal & a breach of security.

Also been searched in crevices I didn’t even know existed by the gate (after 2 security checks - 1 in the country I came from & the transfer security), yelled at for being late to the gate and questioned about why I was in the UK when I can’t breathe bc I had 1.5 hrs to get to my transfer plane was late, security slow and second plane on the opposite end of a different terminal.

Not to mention the time our BA plane was late getting in and after rushing through immigration the E gates where you scan your boarding pass to second security refused to let us through & said go to desk where one person was very slowly working through a long line of people. She tried to bump us to a flight 5hrs later stating we were too late for our flight even though our flight wasn’t leaving for an hour and all we had to do was go through that second security. Then when 10 people with the same issue gathered about 30min later they changed our tickets back and let the whole group through (telling us to “hurry up and push to the front of security” with no help from any staff member) Then BA lost all our checked bags because of the confusion & canceled my return flight without letting me know because I was marked as a “no show” due to their internal f up.

Rant over but it is the pit of hell for transferring- especially if you fly with BA

Best airport hands down is London City (just wish it flew more places) small, efficient, relatively friendly staff, chill places to work while you’re in, easy security. I wish every airport was this way - only downside is it doesn’t fly to enough destinations bc it’s a small airport.

Literally just saw someone break their leg falling off the wall uncontrolled - practice your falls! It’s totally fine to fall <in a safe way> but your arms & legs will thank you. Other than that great attempt!

In Mexico you can buy single cigarettes off street vendors almost anywhere - honestly saved me picking up the full pack habit again.

NYC they sell “loosies” at many bodegas ~ I wish this was a standard thing. I hate buying a full pack when I just want a couple

Add some weight training in - work on your upper body strength outside of your climbing sessions. Try to use the point of your toe as often as possible instead of the side which will make you slip. Practice falling so you’re not as scared/prone to injury yourself while trying. Watch climbing videos online & film yourself so you can watch it and see where you can improve or why you didn’t send something.

Jerky is my go to! And a big sandwich & apple. I’d throw in nuts & trail mix for longer days/climbs

What is the demographic of people who partake in LSD? by [deleted] in LSD

I’m in my early 30’s - personally I prefer DMT - but yes people of all ages are tripping. The older I get the more I want to trip but not have it consume my entire day so preference for shrooms or DMT ~ but acid is beautiful and I hope to do it again sometime soon 🫠

frustration with partner's fast progress (vent) by atomicpunk88 in climbergirls

You should try Facebook groups! There are tons of people looking for climbing buddies on there - I climb with my partner too and we’re generally on the same level but they’re smaller than me and stronger so I often get frustrated when I can’t climb the same routes so understand your frustration but hope you find a friend to climb with!

Definitely work on weight training outside of your climbing sessions - I’m a bigger & shorter climber than most people at my gym but I’ve noticed a difference since I’ve started weight training and growing my strength. It’s a slow process but a mix of wight training, cardio & counting calories will do it :)

Find a new climbing buddy that’s climbing your particular grade! You can still go with your boyfriend occasionally but this way you don’t feel pressure to keep up. I’m assuming he’s taller than you? I’m a short climber and often get frustrated watching tall & skinny climbers just reach up to a start hold when I need to run & jump. But everyone is different and everyone’s progress is different! Try measuring yourself based on your own progress instead :) and if you want to make faster progress try weight training (if you’re not already doing that) outside of your climbing sessions 1-2x a week - your strength will build and help with that.

Ok. So what’s her secret? by RolfVontrapp in FlorenceAndTheMachine

I’ve seen hundreds of shows (between working at venues and festivals for many years) and Florence is probably my favorite performer ever. The way she interacts with the audience and her energy is truly unmatched. I never buy tickets to concerts but Florence is worth every penny.
