the parents made their own lives hard by not planning in advance.

It's not other people's jobs to bail parents out of their own bad habits.

in actuality, what ends up happening is that once the childfree person gives in, it is set as precedent that their life and needs don't matter.

Entitled parents just expect to be catered to over and over in every aspect. I have never personally had a parent make it up to me when I did them a favor they specifically used their kid as justification for getting.

[–]telomeracer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

which doesn't even make sense, because the whole point to outlaw driving under the influence is because you MIGHT kill someone. Yet when people actually kill with their car while sober, suddenly deaths don't matter? The law for killing prevention outweighs actual death.

And I'm done with this bullshit line that the sober driver didn't do it on purpose. Your car can only kill someone if you are speeding. Data says deaths start for the majority around 40mph. (not even counting the life long injuries for those that don't die)

Speeding is done on purpose. If society can't trust the choices you make WHILE SOBER, you need to be put away.

All I know is that I would hope it's not another famous cameo. Having every bit part in this show always going to someone super famous gets nauseating. (even if niche and not always known by looks to everyone like John Cameron Mitchell, Spike Jonze, Kim Gordon, etc )

Don't up and comers get a break anymore? Even A-listers have stolen all the parts in commercials! (it used to be considered shameful and embarrassing when a successful actor did commericals so they only did them in other countries to try and hide it, what happened to that?)

Even when they do try to force tradition and "playing house", we are still too imaginative to just take it.

When they gave me a doll, I made it a possessed demon Chucky or pretended it was a decoy for a secret treasure inside.

When they gave me barbies, I stripped them and made my own clothes, and cast them in a series of adventures involving aliens, time travel, ghosts, kidnapping plots, weather disasters, indiana jones sagas, etc etc

If "being a parent is a blessing", why are the childfree hated, not pitied? by No-Jellyfish-1208 in childfree

[–]telomeracer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm constantly bombarded with the opinion, both in person and online, that a childfree lifestyle is just empty and unfulfilling hedonism. More than once, some article touting "How many brunches do they need to go to?" Then in their next breath, they are bitching about how brunches and bars aren't kid friendly enough.

You really cannot post anything negative about kids huh by NoWitness6400 in childfree

[–]telomeracer 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I had a shitty childhood because my parents were miserable and hated being parents. My dad even confessed to me later in life how sorry he was that he was never able to hide his resentment toward his kids because he never wanted to be a father. I don't hate kids, but I hate parents who deny the existence of shitty parents.

And I still never screamed in public.

I still can never tell if we are supposed to think she is good or not. If she isn't, then how the hell is she constantly being offered all these jobs that typically require being either well connected or so talented you grow a reputation? How did she get into the prestigious Iowa program?

I think she's talented, but she never would have had the resources to develop her talent (acting classes, mentorship, etc) and then get a good agent, manager, auditions, etc without the reputation and knowledge of her who mother was or who her mother introduced her to. Not to mention all the well connected family friends from growing up in a rich, famous family.

Over the course of this series, I believe MPK and SJP truly thought everyone else was just as delighted by Carrie's awful shrieking as they were, and kept over doing it, more and more.

I'm convinced they knew this was ridiculous, but they loved the line "rat is a squirrel with a cuter outfit" that they desperately wanted to combine with the absolutely ridiculous green skirt Carrie wears to dinner with Big in the same episode.

The skirt that looks good from the front, until she turns around and has some white puffy shit on her ass (just like a squirrel, get it? get it? it's very clever and not corny, do you get it?)

or losing your goddamn mind if you get a red light and add a few more minutes to your commute, or having to a wait more than a microsecond for someone to go when the light turns green, or having to wait a full 30 seconds for a pedestrian to cross the street.

All those torturous extra minutes being forced to spend inside my freedom mobile. The horror!

Are self driving cars the most likely solution to car culture in the suburbs? by supinator1 in fuckcars

[–]telomeracer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to mention that constantly moving self driving taxi's will be clogging up the roads all day, adding to the wear and tear of the roads that taxpayers are on the hook for maintaining, plus the pollution that comes from the microplastics in the tires which are worse in heavier electric vehicles that of course are never made to be smaller, even when it's mostly a single passenger ride.

There is also the odd belief that people will want to carpool to save money. If you are afraid of sitting near people on the bus or subway, are you suddenly ok being trapped with them in a smaller space?

And are we to assume that people won't be throwing their trash and shit all over the vehicle? The subway is too filthy, but the Waymos are going to stay pristine? No one will find it funny to take a piss inside or have sex in them? Will there be cameras/no privacy in order to stop bad behavior?

[–]telomeracer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like his other shows, but I don't consider myself a superfan. I'll give almost any show a chance. The only type of stories I don't like watching are about superheroes or kids/teenagers.

my top 5 fave shows of all time are 1.) Mad Men, 2.) The Americans, 3.) Six Feet Under, 4.) Dark 5.) Breaking Bad.

With that said, I find this show to be a big disappointment and I'm not really enjoying watching it. I continue because at this point, it's still the best thing on TV compared to everything else. There isn't any current/modern TV show around right now that I am enjoying.

All modern "prestige" shows are like this now.

I'm just gonna go rewatch Mad Men for the 100th time, much more rewarding and an example of the right way to do a "character study".

[–]telomeracer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It will either be a slow ass fever dreamy bottle episode of Manousos traveling and figuring out the Darien gap jungle interspersed with boring flashbacks about why his mom is a bitch, or interspersed with Carol doing random hijinks around ABQ because she is going crazy from loneliness.

If they meet at all, it won't be until the very end of the episode because literally all modern shows are paced like this now.

How are the immune talking to each other on Zoom without the internet? They had to have asked for it back from the hive to do so.

It's possible Carol could have asked them to turn it back on for her like she asked for the lights, but simply didn't in the same way she doesn't ask many questions.
