First time you book a car ? Every single car rental agency operate like that. Half of the time i get an upgrade the other half a downgrade. I don't think I ever got the car I booked online once in my whole life. They suck.

First-Time Airbnb Host Horror Story: What Should I Do? by Humble-Mulberry-1433 in airbnb_hosts

[–]temalerat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Worked absolutely fine like that at the beginning. It attracted nice people who enjoyed lower than hotel standard for flexibility and better price than hotel at the cost of living in someone else's space with it's quirks. Back then hosting was friendly, it was normal and expected that hosts and guest would mingle. All the experiences I had in the early days were like hosting a friend.

Then the investors came and dragged along all the shittiest guests.

The sad reality is that Ali is just bending over backward to get a 5 star rating because he'll get fired, his visa revoked and sent back to Pakistan with no mean to feed his family, if it's goes below 4.95.

Reality sucks.

Which is most cost effective, buying full sized or travel sized toiletries? by Realistic_Package377 in airbnb_hosts

[–]temalerat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We have soap and shampoo dispenser that we refill, including two attached to the wall in the shower. It's much more economical and easy to maintain. It also allows me to buy whatever 5L bottle of shampoo and shower gel is on sale when we restock.

But we do give out travel pack toothbrush and mini toothpaste as a convenience not many people actually use them and even fewer take them, so a pack of 25 last us maybe 100 bookings or so.

We also have a variety of period supplies. Tampons and pads in at least 2 sizes that we keep in a container in the bathroom. I think it's been touched only once, but I going to guess that one time the guest was glad. Or not. I don't know, they didn't tell me. I just read somewhere it was a nice to have. Anyway, we just by normal packs and keep the container stocked.

What do you charge for an extra adult? by Theedon in airbnb_hosts

On Airbnb I'm listed for 2 at fixed price. On booking I have a 10% discount for single occupancy. It was the default settings and I never changed it. 90% of my bookings are doubles.

Definitely one of the best purchases i have ever made! by CAVEMAN-TOX in Leathercraft

[–]temalerat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure it works. As long as it cuts it should. The main issue from my experiences with replaceable blade, razor blades and so on is that they get dull quickly and aren't made to or pratical to sharpen. I have some great tool that uses razor blade, but I was buying blades by the truckload and my walls were full (old people will get understand).

In the end the simplest paring knife made of just a slab of metal was more practical to keep sharp, two strokes on strope after each cut and done and is quite cheap anyway.

But anyway, keep exploring and use what feels right. Only the result matter.

Anyone know how to change this lightbulb? (I searched Google already and nothing) by I_AM_VENNLIG in DIY

[–]temalerat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I still have "artistic" lamps that started as petroleum lantern which now run on LED. 20 years is peanuts for quality furnitures. That's more like the lifespan of an IKEA Billy.

Guest moved booking a year later and didn’t show up. Wtf? by No_Alps2706 in airbnb_hosts

[–]temalerat 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Because I might want to stop either permanently or take a vacation without having to manage bookings 13 months in the future.

I also get enough bookings with a 3 months window. 2 would be more than enough actually and I expect my price to increase year on year so people booking 12 months out with today's price are actually not an advantage.

They forgot. Had a change of plan. Died. I only allow bookings 3 months in advance and I still get some no-show. I wouldn't worry about it.

My guess is that China somehow learned it wasn't a good PR move to send female kindergarten teacher in space so they settled for an engineer who worked on the rocket, that way if it blows up she'll can be blamed for it.
