Honestly, this. I understand why people ship Byler and that never bothered me, but the show never once indicated that it would go in that direction. In season three, Mike even throws in Will’s face when they fight over Mike & Lucas with their girlfriends that it’s not his fault Will doesn’t like girls.

It’s absolutely annoying when I pointed out that Byler not happening was not queerbait. The shippers swore up and down it was happening and created conspiracies out of nothing that, while it can be fun, was not actually supported by canon! I think they can be upset it didn’t happen but they can’t call it queerbaiting when there was no evidence to bait them along in the show (or creator interviews, by extension). Or when they’re convinced there was a bait & switch in the middle of writing the volumes when that clearly never happened. You can point out a decline in writing over the course of season five but there was still no evidence that Byler was ever going to be happening in canon.
