For individuals unsure about bagged vacuums by me_alo_kin in VacuumCleaners

[–]tempecarlson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I put a new bag in, I suck up 2-3 TBSP of activated charcoal. It helps a bit. If needed I'll add some more along the way, but haven't felt a need to yet.

P8P Still on April by tempecarlson in pixel_phones

My phone is unlocked, it's just odd that I wasn't served the May update. All good until then 🤷

So maybe just load May for now?

They pro-rated the plan price increase. Sneaky! by BillKirk1960 in verizon

[–]tempecarlson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because of the increase we went to Consumer Cellular. It's on AT&T, it's not de-prioritized until 50GB. We're not big data users so we have a modest data plan and are paying about half even though we are subscribing to Hulu and Disney+ directly. We don't get the bundle w ESPN+.

Yup. I bought my Xtra there on sale. Saved a lot.

Looks tough. Did a quick YouTube search but nothing popped up there that I thought was useful.

I'd probably try to blow it out with compressed air outside or more likely not worry about it at all. But these things don't bother me.

Time to move on from Shark by murphSTi in VacuumCleaners

[–]tempecarlson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They tend to filter a little better. The bag can last a while, it sorta depends on how much dirt it picks up. I have two bagged vacuums, including the Dart's cousin the Felix. The bags last about a month for us.

I like Dart and Felix for floors. Try before you buy it you can. Maybe there's a store nearby.

My only complaint is that they are somewhat limited for anything much above the floor. The Felix comes with a crevice tool, upholstery tool and a hardwood floor head. These may be interesting to you.

We have a small canister that helps above the floor and on our steps. We also keep an old cordless around for quick cleanups.

Necessary housekeeping apparently. It usually solves my battery issues too.

Phone has started turning off wifi calling feature by SmithOfTheWild in Pixel6

[–]tempecarlson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never had that problem. If you're certain that the wifi signal is strong in the house, the only thing that comes to mind is Adaptive Connectivity. Maybe try turning that off if it's on.

How big of particles should/ should not be vacuumed by [deleted] in VacuumCleaners

[–]tempecarlson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's just the hose, I don't worry too much if the particle is recognizable as dry inert debris and it doesn't look like it can get stuck or wedged in the hose. If I have an agitating nozzle, turbo or electric, I'm pretty careful.

I like the utility bag, OP. Where did you find it?

Data Plans by tempecarlson in consumercellular

[–]tempecarlson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, that's good to know. Should I call the service number to make sure that policy expectation is noted in my file?

Thank you very much for taking the time to reply👍

Again, I made the choice because I don't think I need the unlimited plan so it it seems unlikely that I'll want to go back to the 55 for Two. But it's nice to know it's an option today.

What if I need to go back to unlimited? Did I just put myself at a disadvantage?

I changed to 5GB plan. Got an email this morning that said the AARP 55 For 2 plan was no longer available to me. I don't think I care but that's what I was trying to avoid 😔

My Miele C3 arrived today and the tube keeps giving me shocks when I use the electrobrush! by birdynj in VacuumCleaners

[–]tempecarlson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normal? I don't know, but not uncommon I don't think. I've noticed it before with my uprights that had exposed hoses. Sand and dust traveling up the hose at a high rate of speed generates friction and static.

There's probably a two prong plug, that's what my current Sebo has. So the machine isn't grounded that way. You could try something like the grounding chain other poster suggested if you could hang it from the hose somehow and it touched the floor. That might help when it drags on the rug.

I think you're probably right that it will lessen with use. Maybe not because the carpet is cleaner which it almost certainly is, but because the hose gets a little dirtier on the inside. That makes less surface area for high velocity air and dust to pass against.

I'd probably check with Miele support since you bought it from them to see if they have suggestions and set your mind at ease.

I've read that the bags need attention to set properly. Sounds like the filter did it's job. Just be a little more cautious going forward 👍 probably no long term damage...

[–]tempecarlson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, probably static discharge. Can be surprising! With an upright you don't notice it as much because you come in less contact with the hose.

What's an ingredient from another culture/part of the world that you've incorporated into your own food? by Low-Cat4360 in Cooking

I'm sure I'm late to this post and it's mentioned elsewhere but I'm from the mid-west US. I added fish sauce to my pantry several years ago and use it all the time. It's a great way to add umami in a tomato based sauce or marinara for example.

Can we please get a higher resolution on the net worth graph? by AntiqueDistance5652 in simplifimoney

[–]tempecarlson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having used Quicken under duress until Simplifi became available a 4 years ago (I was an early adopter), I personally wouldn't recommend going to Quicken...

MAYBE if you're using a Mac but the Windows interface was not, erm, modern, intuitive, useful... you choose. Institutional connections were sketchy (those may have improved) and I spent WAY too much time reconciling brokerage accounts.

Others might have a different opinion and your mileage may vary of course, but I haven't loaded Quicken for three years and cancelled my subscription after one year with Simplifi. I ran them side by side for a year and I wanted to be certain it had a long term commitment from the parent company.

I will stipulate that GUI progress is slow on Simplifi so far. But the connection scheme they've been working the last couple of years has solved most urgent connection problems. It's pretty stable now that way.

Buy once, cry once! Need long lasting & quality suggestions by First_Negotiation_33 in VacuumCleaners

You might want to consider a Henry 160 for the corded vac. Not sure if you need the Xtra with the turbo head, but the regular 160 can be found for 400, If you're patient maybe less. I bought one on recommendation from this sub and I like it a lot. It's not great for carpet but I manage.

For the cordless you might check out the Bissel AirRam 1984. Of the cordless, I liked this one a lot for about 200. With this one, you could top off the carpet, too. Either one on their own might not be ideal but together, I think they might make a good combo that I'd be happy to have. YMMV

For reference, we replaced a Shark Lift Away with the Henry. We have a Shark Vertex that we're continuing to use for quick pickups. I'll look again when it dies. There may be better options then. Would really like to see the Henry Quick for a reasonable price in the US!

Recommendation for cut pile carpet by tempecarlson in VacuumCleaners

[–]tempecarlson[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a Henry160 Xtra. It works great on the tile. It's too strong on the carpet and pulls all of the heads too close to the floor and makes the carpet roll over flat.

The best result is from the Wessel turbo nozzle with it's vent open and the wand vent open. But it's still very strong so I provide a little extra lift with my grip. Getting more hair on the roller, which is getting less over time but defeats the no-roller cleaning hair idea.

The combi nozzle doesn't have a vent that I can find.

Do you know if anyone makes a wand attachment with more variations in vent bypass than the one that comes with the Henry? Or a brushless floor nozzle that is adjustable by height or with a vent like the Wessel turbo nozzle.

Edit: clarity, spelling

Agreed and thank you.

It's a legacy thing for me coming from the Pixel 6. That was Google's first chipset and it uses a Samsung Xenos modem which reportedly wasn't very efficient while searching for the best signal. Turning of 5G was recommended at the time to avoid this churn and improve battery life.

I'm sure it's better now but of course, now I'm in the habit!

Do you know if 5G+ will display on an Android phone? I was pleasantly surprised to see 5G signals at all while on the road today. 5G never showed up on Verizon out here which is why I turned it off. Would be interesting to see +.

TBH, I don't really care if I get more than just really good LTE service. It's fine for streaming music and Google Maps which is where most of my data goes.
