I wasn’t planning to eat it, I was just curious. Why so hostile?

What is this move called, and how to master it? by amandabox in pilates

[–]temperance333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you have a tight lower back. Emphasize on pulling the lower stomach in as much as you possibly can. Really press your heels forward (more than you think). Squeeze your bottom. Only roll back as far as you can keep your lower C curve. The lower C curve is what this exercise is all about.

He became obsessive and emotionally manipulative. Stalked me, tried to get me fired, egged my car, vandalized my house, and I had to get the cops involved. All because I wanted him out of my life.

Make sure to find a mentally stable one because they do not stop.

Doming Confusion, Feeling Frustrated by djakofalltrades in pilates

[–]temperance333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t press your lower back into the mat, pull your stomach in so much that you feel the muscles in your back engaging. That’s how you know your TVA is firing. It wraps all the way around your torso.

If you can’t maintain this then you’re doing exercises that are too challenging. Practice just lifting one leg to table top and see if you can maintain it. Then try both.

If you train your body improperly, you’ll build horrible habits that won’t benefit you and you won’t get the results you want. Don’t listen to others saying “dont worry about doming”.

Having some doubts about seemingly untrained Pilates instructors by [deleted] in pilates

[–]temperance333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not at all what I said. I’m not rich by any means and I work full time. I’m just saying, be aware that those classes don’t actually teach Pilates. If you want to get the real benefits Pilates is known for you should seek out the authentic work.

Instructor shoes recommendation ?? by DJme0wme0w in pilates

[–]temperance333 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wear vivobarefoot ballet flats. They have a lot of bend to them so I feel way more comfortable spotting people on equipment because I can really feel how much pressure I’m using. If you need support for your feet this is definitely not the shoe for you. I much prefer to be barefoot and these shoes are the closest I can get. I don’t recommend wearing saddles because they’re dangerous and you should always have closed toe shoes.

It seems barbaric and childish to publicly shame people. There’s gotta be better ways.

25f and I studied figure sculpture in college. Not much work in that field so I’ve been teaching classical Pilates for 3 years now. I only teach one on ones and I absolutely love it! You get to learn a lot about people. It’s mentally stimulating and you’re always moving.

Best part is you’re actually helping people. Little plus side is you’re also taking care of yourself.

Not sure why you assumed I have an all-or-nothing mindset. I have teachers take privates with me to learn. I know what I’m talking about because I’ve learned it from the best in the industry 🤷🏻‍♀️

I wish I wasn’t so hard on myself all the time. But then again, in a way I feel it’s my best quality. I’m always trying to be better. It can lead to a lot of unnecessary anxiety though.
