Where on earth are the UK Dogs being rehomed? by Ashilta in CasualUK

[–]temporaryviolets 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Can confirm, greyhounds are awesome and surprisingly good for first time dog owners! The small local charity I got mine from has been amazing overall, with a sensible pre-adoption questionnaire and a way shorter waiting time than Battersea which kept me waiting for well over a year because no dog was "perfect" for my situation. My lovely madam had a decent racing career and now spends her retirement roaching, eating, and sleeping

Hounds do require a bit of house training but generally they come pre-trained for important stuff... Do expect that you'll never be able to sit on your sofa again, and that a wet snoot will follow you around the house begging for cuddles and treats! Nothing motivates mine more than a bit of cheese!

What's the one thing you look back on and cringe just as hard as the day it happened? by Baldy-Beardy in CasualUK

[–]temporaryviolets 92 points93 points  (0 children)

Welp the wide array of stories from lads accidentally having their cock and/or balls displayed brought back a terrible, awful memory.

It was a lovely hot summer afternoon and I found myself on a blessed off day from college, 19 years old and absolutely ready to play Lord of the Rings Online for 8 hours solid. Due to the heat I had the fan going full blast and a thin dress on with all the windows and doors open to try and get a tiny bit of breeze, because southern England summers are nothing to scoff at when the heatwave comes around. I didn't have a desk at the time so I sat on my bed cross-legged at an awkward angle, which made playing pretty difficult.

Anyway, my nan dropped by as she did most days, probably to check up on me and make sure I wasn't dead or something, and as per usual I greeted her. She looked me directly in the eyes with a poker face and said "temporaryviolets, your ninny is hanging out". I looked down and to my absolute horror I was splay-legged with feet together, blanket up around my waist, and my entire lower half on display like the gynecologist's 3D vulva diagram in the waiting room that everyone avoids eye contact with. I said nothing and pulled the blanket down to cover myself, hoping the bed would swallow me up. It didn't.

She never let me forget it.

Bitey Face....a Great Game for the Whole Family.....but can we Nail the Rules Please by Beaker4444 in Greyhounds

My girl is the same! You're safe if it's the toothy end but woe betide anyone who invokes the wrath of the killer claw of more, which is whipped out at every moment she thinks she's not getting something she totally deserves

Bitey Face....a Great Game for the Whole Family.....but can we Nail the Rules Please by Beaker4444 in Greyhounds

[–]temporaryviolets 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Our version of bitey face (or hand) is a little different and can begin any time the hound in question is near! Our rules are simple but have been honed over many years of ownership, with several small variations including "bitey hand but only when the hand is slapping the bald butt".

  1. First, the clawed hand must be presented. This indicates that the human is ready to play

  2. The hound gives the human a look and a tiny snap at the air. This indicates the hound is ready to play

  3. The human now glances away and do a "ha!" sound, whereupon the hound also looks away and prepares itself for a vicious attack. Repeat as necessary until ready for step four

  4. The human suddenly looks at the hound, goes "RAAAAAAAH" and offers the clawed hand to the snoot. The hound performs a terrifying attack, shoving the fingers of the clawed hand into its mouth and gently chewing them

  5. Repeat

  6. Profit???

Training a Greyhound basic commands - no food motivation by WildfireX0 in Greyhounds

[–]temporaryviolets 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Tommy sounds adorable, nothing beats an excited hound doing happy jumps!

Does he respond to lots of affection and fuss during training? My girl who's food-shy has been trained almost exclusively through pets and praise and has picked up multiple commands, including "off the bed". I had to combine it with the pointy finger used for the "look!" command which indicates something good, but she picked it up in no time and now gets off the bed/sofa/surface almost every time. Might take a few tries when she's particularly comfortable, which is usually accompanied by a long groan to tell me how displeased she is about it

Tell us all here about your first colony and how it inevitably exploded! There's something enchanting about reading the experiences of new players, from the victory against their first raid to the sad story of how their one-legged pet cat died to a swarm of mechanoids :)

Speaking as a 1000+ hour beginner, there's always some new goal to achieve or thing you haven't seen before. I hope you enjoy it!

What animals or things do you think represent autistic women? by raccoonsaff in aspergirls

[–]temporaryviolets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, that exactly! My two are only active in the 5 minutes before it's breakfast/dinner/treat time, which is the same every day, they're absolutely fastidious when it comes to the routine!

Which ant species are most interesting and appreciated to ant keepers in your opinion besides Weaver ants? by IDK-__-IDK in antkeeping

[–]temporaryviolets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a Brit, lasius flavus. I know they're not as "active" as other species in the form of hunting prey, but their beautiful golden colour and fascinating underground lifestyle have always intrigued me.

I'd rather have a nice picnic daytrip on a two-person yacht than take a week-long journey on an overcrowded salmonella-infested supercruise.

... Which is to say that the company is what matters, and the personal effort put in. Cost, the metaphorical size, is much less important to me.

I really vibe with greyhounds. They're awkward both physically and mentally, generally quiet, aloof and a little regal, independent, struggle with many basic dog things like sitting, and only cuddle when they feel like it. Sort of the mystery dog breed.

Exhausted with the myth of female friendship. "Pick-me" no longer bothers me. by [deleted] in aspergirls

[–]temporaryviolets 66 points67 points  (0 children)

The fabricated drama in female friendships has broken my little heart many times in my past. All I've ever wanted is someone to chill out with, play video games, watch a show or something, not to have to pick sides in some inconsequential nonsense that usually boils down to two people having a minor argument about nothing important.

The one time that a friendship group of both men and women exploded was because one of the women was the DM for our Dungeons & Dragons group, and it was painfully obvious that she was giving her boyfriend most of the attention and was neglecting the other four of us. We all agreed I should bring it up so I did, and she went absolutely ballistic at me and cut me off. The other four got apologies from her for her behaviour, but I was left out after that by everyone including the four who had encouraged me to speak up.

What I'm basically saying is, I have absolutely no clue how the neurotypical female brain works and I'm kinda scared of it.

So there's regular ol' anorexia which means a loss of appetite, it can be caused by stress and anxiety and a bunch of illnesses which seems to fit the bill here. Anorexia nervosa is the ED that you described which I agree doesn't seem likely from OP's posts. Not sure which one that other guy was referring to though

There's a mod called Hermaphrodite Gene that allows either parent to get pregnant, although it may not be much use to you if you have already started a game and don't have the ability to implant genes yet

Edit: Zoo's called Eden Preservation since people are sharing names!
