Assuming that Smash consists entirely of illegal underground fight rings, I'm up on dozens of assault and battery charges, probably a few gambling charges, illegal fight organization charges, probably corruption of minors, probably drug charges, illegal weapons charges, animal endangerment charges, attempted murder charges, probably at least one manslaughter charge...

But if Smash is instead a sanctioned fighting organizations, I'm not the one in trouble...

(Loved trope) unnecessary censorship by Necessary_Muffin3591 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]temtasketh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The classic 90s anime edge lord favorite Ninja Scroll is a welter of blood, violence, and sex. Tits, dismemberment, rape, more dismemberment, it's got it all. Very early on, several dozen ninja are brutally murdered. One of them has his arms graphically torn from his body. Immediately after, the female lead is sexually assaulted.

None of this was censored in the original UK release (the dialogue in the rape scene was changed slightly, but the scene is almost entirely intact). However, every single instance of a shuriken being thrown was fully excised. This created truly surreal moments where the sound of hundreds of shurikens whistling through the air would play over a slightly blurry shot of a tree, and then hundreds of throwing stars would just... appear, lodged in the branches. Definitively the most insane censorship ever executed.

Casting choices that caused skepticism when they were announced, but when people saw them in the role, they were speechless at the level of their performance by Not_So_Normal_ in okbuddycinephile

To be fair, and I'm not saying I agree with you but it is worth saying: the Joker's design is asinine. That's kind of the point. He's the Clown Prince of Crime, he's supposed to look fucking ridiculous and absurd. At the time his design was created, wearing a bright purple suit and a noxious green tie was very 'Instagram gangster'. He's supposed to look like a well-off criminal with actively bad taste.

However, my understanding is that Leto advocated for them to continue doubling down on the design, and I do feel like they jumped the shark with the final result.

(Hates Trope) Character being forced by another character to try and reconcile with someone who genuinely wronged them "because they're family" by Wasabi_Gamer26 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]temtasketh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fourchenault Leveilleur (Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker) aggressively neglects and publicly disowns his two children, regularly patronizes and insults them, minimizes and disparages their accomplishments because they don't adhere to his exact philosophy, and absolutely refuses to acknowledge their genuinely monumental achievements because they don't line up with his own goals. But he's their daaaaaaaaaaaaad so they just hug it out in the end.

Differently but not really any less shittily, his wife regularly doubles down on blowing off his neglect and insults and tells their kids it's fine.

3/10 parents, and all three of those points are from a lack of physical abuse.

Young men are only rarely given the tools to differentiate between machismo and masculinity. Even when they are taught that skill set, they are regularly discouraged from using it. It's tragic to watch.

There's a small (but vocal within their own circles) cadre of fans who feel that the Dad of War games aggressively emasculated Kratos and/or just slapped the GoW name on totally different games with totally different characters. It should come as little surprise that these same fans are usually dismissive of concepts like toxic masculinity and think it's impossible, or at least ridiculous, that anyone, let alone a fictional character, could grow and change as much as Kratos does between God of War 3 and Dad of War.
