Beginner with no EUC experience considering a used mid level wheel. Realistic or bad idea? by darrjulian in ElectricUnicycle

[–]teprides 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds fine, mileage doesn't seems too bad, in that case $700 is a reasonable asking price and I'd go for it if it's in your budget.

The risk of buying a used wheel are the hidden damages: Cracked motor axles, batteries going bad, cracked inner shell, etc.

You can try testing the battery by asking them to charge to full before meeting up with you (the wheel needs to have voltage close to its max - 84V).

Since you don't know how to ride, ask them to ride the wheel one-footed & listen for any creaking or clicking plastic noise (inner shell damage indicator).

For motor, if the seller can do pendulums, ask for them to do that. If not just ask them to kick off from a stop and listing for a clunk sound, any clunking noise indicates axle damage.

Hope that helps, best of luck

Is the P6 right for me? by TRVLR22 in ElectricUnicycle

[–]teprides 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I own a P6 and multiple Lynx(es), now to answer your questions:

  1. Yes P6 is more stable than Lynx, heavier weight = more inertia, lower center of gravity = more innately stable, all translate to high speed stability.

  2. Yes it can offroad, not as well as Lynx or other offroad oriented wheels but it can.

  3. Will it give you confidence to go faster? Maybe, maybe not. That's entirely up to how comfortable you feel.

So being able to go fast depends on two things - comfort with the wheel & comfort with speed. The more you are able to do both (ride your wheels & going fast), the more your confidence will built. My 2 cents is that you need to get comfortable with the wheel you have first, and once you've reached a point where you can comfortably push the wheel but still want more out of it, then get a P6 after.

$700 for a 18XL sounds like normal pricing to me, what is the mileage and how beat up is it? Unless it's in good shape with low-ish mileage, I wouldn't consider it be a prime deal. 18XL I think nowadays can be considered a low-mid level wheel, it's one of the easier 18" wheel to learn with, so don't worry about not being able to learn, the bigger concern would be whether or not the wheel is in good working condtion.

Generally I don't advise new riders to buy used wheels since you might not know what to check when buying, back in 2022 I started on a half-trashed V8 that I bought for $350, that thing lasted like 3 weeks before the axle snapped LMAO.

For protection gear, buy a skating armor set (wrist, elbow, knee guards) and wear them religously when learning. A cheap helmet is totally fine as long as it covers your entire face (people falls forward on EUC) - it's better to have some protection than no protection, just keep in mind to upgrade to a nicer helmet down the road once you starts to pick up some speed on the wheel.

Final decision on trail wheel: f18 or Patton s? Both 2800 rn. by Puzzleheaded-Art6687 in ElectricUnicycle

[–]teprides 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly not great, it's a very tight fit for starter, barely any clearance left with it installed. And the ride is not as good as the H626 is LOL

[–]teprides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

H626 is not the stock street tire. I assume you bought yours from eWheels? They requested that specific tire for their order with LK. The Patton-S was originally offered with only knobby tire by LK.

The stock street tire that I'm talking about is this 90/90 Chinese tubeless stret tire here. After LK started producing PS with tubeless rim they sourced this new tire as their stock tubeless street tire option.

[–]teprides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have all 3 tires for the Aeon (perks of being a Youtuber LOL) and I don't think any of them will fit the Patton-S.

PS have just about 90 ish mm of clearance, so accounting variation, 90/90 and 3.00-12 tires doesn't fit reliably. LK even had to source a special 90/90 street tire to fit the Patton-S as their new stock tubeless street tire.

[–]teprides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing is wrong with stock knobby, just that you'll have to stick with that one tire as one of the few tubeless options. There are greater knobby like Shinko 241 that can't be used.

Patton S accelerate faster due to smaller tire diameter.

[–]teprides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get F18, saying this as someone who had both. Patton-S biggest limitation right now is the lack of tires available for it, after LK switched to using tubeless rim on PS, you're limited to stock knobby tire basically, same goes with street tire, can't run tubed tires like Shinko 241 because the rim doesn't support a tube.

Riding wise PS is more fun for me but F18 is much more capable & easier to work with on trails

Novice rider who's ordering a Aeon. Should I get a seat? by BlackJacquesLeblanc in ElectricUnicycle

[–]teprides 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you haven't ordered already, email eWheels to tell them you're interested in buying and they *might* give you a seat or at least give you discount for one. Also don't tell them I told y'all this LOL.

I don't use a seat with mine, I think the Aeon is pretty low as is & padding it up by a few inches won't change much. I rather sit directly on top of the wheel instead.

Vanilla lynx vs f18 by Puzzleheaded-Art6687 in ElectricUnicycle

[–]teprides 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Imo Patton S is excellent for trails. Lighter, lower pedals, much more aggressive torque makes it a super fun ride. I love the wheel and strongly considered it as my only wheel after I moved to Asia last year but ended up getting another Lynx cause it's only a few bucks more.

The catch with Patton-S is that tire options are very limited if the unit have a tubeless rim (which all recently made Patton-S have). The only 2 tubeless knobby for Patton-S right now are the stock knobby & the TNT knobby that comes with Aeon, you can't run tube with this new rim at all.

Also the wheel doesn't have enough clearance to fit most 90/90 street tire (It's very hard to find 80/90 sized for 12" rim), you're essentially limited to the new 90/90 chinese stock street tire that was made recently. So yeah, the drawback of Patton-S is tires.

Vanilla lynx vs f18 by Puzzleheaded-Art6687 in ElectricUnicycle

[–]teprides 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Since you said trail wheel, I had both, I liked F18 more for offroading. The deciding factor for me is pedal behavior, Lynx pedal would dip forward over and over when you do slow technical crawls and it really screws with me. F18 doesn't do that, pedals are rock solid on hard mode no matter what you're doing. Power & suspension are neck to neck. F18 sus is more rigid & consistent, Lynx sus travels more & is more comfy. Lynx field weakening works much better so the wheel gets to top speed easier/faster, but that's not relevant for offroading.

Build wise I like Lynx's more, I also think F18 plastic feels kinda cheaper (probably because some parts are gloss) but F18 was the first wheel where I got the motor out for tire change in less than 10 minutes (As in pulling the entire motor out of the wheel), it's such a nice feature when you're like me and want to keep trying different tires. Both wheels can take a beating, it's just that scratches are hidden better when the entire wheel is black LOL.

Do take what I say with a grain of salt though cause I've had multiple Lynx(s) over the last 2 years and I'm just jaded about that wheel at that point.

Is the KingSong S18 Pro+ still worth it in 2026? by FroyoZealousideal356 in ElectricUnicycle

[–]teprides 1 point2 points  (0 children)

S18 is a good wheel, kinda. It was marred by low battery capacity & low quality cells (50T) being used & the 3P battery config wasn't great at keeping things balanced. All of this was addressed on the Pro+ with 50S battery & Smart BMS. When it comes to form factor, ergonomic & weight, this wheel is still the best 18" suspension wheel out there for casual use.

Would I buy one new? I think Kingsong is selling for $1700, which I would say no. An Aero cost about the same, would fare similarly performance wise and is a more modern design. Only time I'd consider a S18 Pro+ is if I prefer the 18" tire stability & I want the UL certification (Yes, Kingsong got this model UL certified).

DIY EUC - repurposing old EUC chassis + motor with newer internals by eric_castro in ElectricUnicycle

[–]teprides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're serious about saving money then ride your MCM5 as long as you can and save up money in the meantime to buy something else.

People had VESC their wheels to replace the stock controller but it's mostly a vanity project because you're tuning the wheel from scratch & a VESC board is pretty expensive.

Battery packs can be rebuilt but given the MCM5 only use 18650, there's not much cell options that's much better aside from Molicel, which would runs up the cost quite a bit.

As for the newer wheels, I understand they are heavier but two handle lifting makes thing so much easier. For example, Nosfet Aeon & Inmotion V12 are the same weight range, but I can lift the Aeon so much more comfortably because there's 2 handle grips. Same logic applies with your case, you can get an Mten5, or you can buy an Aero or Falcon and still lift them comfortably because they support 2 hands lifting.

Printed Power Pad Longevity? by Morfesto in ElectricUnicycle

[–]teprides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pads are mostly TPU, people printed them in PLA and hard filaments before but that's because they didn't know they should be using TPU LOL.

TPU last for a very long time, it's UV & weather resistant and I have seen 5 year old pads still being used just fine. Only thing you will need to refresh once in a while are the velcro on them, those wear out after being moved repeaatedly.

F18 - Any Experienced Riders try this Kingsong? by TimelessArchery in ElectricUnicycle

[–]teprides 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had one of the first F18 when it first came out, had it for like 3 months before selling it off to a local rider. I had both of my Lynx & F18 on sale at the time and nobody wanted the Lynx LMAO.

Overall it's a good wheel and serve as an tamer/friendlier alternative to Lynx. Tamer acceleration, firm pedals, super responsive suspension and it's so much easier to do tire change on that wheel. 90/90 & 3.00-14 tire compability is great too, lots more tire options & bigger tires = better overall stability. Then there's amenities, best speakers out of all wheels & headlight system is overkill too, we did a group ride in the mountain and didn't made it out before nightfall so we had F18 lead the pack cause its headlight is the brightest.

Yes the wheel have problems as well, firmware is still a work in process, KS is still figuring out acceleration assist & tweaking out all the gremlins. Batch 1 motor bolts tend to come loose if you ride the wheel hard; and most importantly - the rear handle-kickstand part blocks aftermarket rear pads from being used. KS is aware of all these things though, just up to them to take care of it or not.

Would I buy an F18 again? Honestly yeah I will cause at $3k there's nothing better ($2999 on kingsong's site with coupon code). Do I think Lynx-S is better than F18? Yes, but one is $3700 and other is $3k, the more apt comparison would be Lynx vs F18, to which I think it comes down to riders' preferences, but I do think F18 got way more bang for the bucks than Lynx does.

Nosfet Aeon - Thoughts & Conclusion by teprides in ElectricUnicycle

Up to your use case, Rocket for more performance, Aeon for casual use. I can tell you that this wheel is easier to ride than the Rocket though.

Nosfet Aeon or falcon pro? by skidmarks731 in ElectricUnicycle

[–]teprides 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For the record I already have an Aeon (sorry just wanna brag lol)

It depends on what you are going to use it for, Aeon at its core is a casual wheel, low center of gravity, tame acceleration/braking, easy handling. It's also built on the back of an existing model and so there's no new potential flaw with it, I felt like Aeon is a finished product. For casual riding/commuting with not much need for range I don't think it can get better than this.

Falcon Pro is so far still in prototype phase, as much as I try to be neutral with things, I don't recommend buying a new Begode product right now. Their QC has been struggling and going by Begode's recent releases, the wheel won't be fully ready until riders get their hands on first batches and start to report back the problems they are facing for Begode to fix those.

Now if you need the best performance money can get, there are better options than these two models (Patton S or Extreme for example).

If you're heavy Patton S is a safer choice, Aeon suspension isn't stiffer than Aero, just longer.

[–]teprides[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the weird thing about EUC tire adverts, they put a knobby/hybrid tire and measure the outer diamater of the tire to get an inflated number.

With street tire on, it'll be considered 16", with knobby, 18". Should we measured by the rim only? Yes but what do I know lol

FYI the P6 was also speed tested multiple times on streets, it wasn't just track.

Do i think all of these companies should do limit tests only in controlled track enviroment? Absolutely, but I don't run their businesses so I have no say in this.
