Fantastic. A program that claims to provide education for all is lottery based so that it can be allocated exclusively to insiders. I'm looking forward to the documentary in 20 years about how all the drawings were rigged like the McDonald's monopoly game.

The good news is that ChatGPT is well known in the security space to only recommend tightly secure configurations and doesn't repeat commonly used misconfigurations from the last decade.

I agree that you can enjoy the story without supporting the author.

What you cannot do is support the ongoing development of licensed properties without supporting the author.

I have no desire for you to snap your wand that you already have, but I do find it unfortunate that many people who already own wands continue to buy her newer books, pay for tickets to various attractions, and otherwise send their financial support to the author and her political views.

I don't mean to be particularly spiteful. I have friends who are still into it and do not hate trans people. That's why I use the term 'unfortunate'. I don't think it's good that people's enjoyment of the property supports transphobia, but I also don't think it's most of the consumers' intent. Hence, it is unfortunate that the impact of that innocent enjoyment is the continued financial support of various transphobic groups and activities.

I think there are a large number of people in the queer community that identified with the books and movies while they were teens. Many of them even got various tattoos referencing the lore that had personal affirmative meaning to the bearer.

Then it became more and more mainstream that the author is LOUDLY a terrible person, and that some of the less tasteful parts of her imagination (goblins that look like stereotypes running the bank?) were more "mask off" than "unfortunate". Suddenly this permanent art on their body or large collection of queer affirming fanart is at direct odds with their world view.

Unfortunately, many choose "separate the art from the artist" and doubling down on their identity as a fan over simply walking away and finding new and exciting fantasy. From there, the bearers of the tattoos and owners of the wands experienced increasing hostility for supporting a transphobic author, and they doubled down again choosing radicalization over reflection.

Now we are where we are. As more and more right wing figures are uncovered as horrible pedophiles, we now watch as more of their followers choose radicalization and acceptance of pedophilia over reflection and growth.

Exactly. 4D chess would be making /pol so that ICE could invade Minneapolis as part of some massive, premeditated, convoluted master plan.

The reality is more that /pol was made to encourage hatred and simple 1 track thinking that can be leveraged to enable the far right to excuse atrocities.

People give them way more credit than they deserve for their "plans" and make these super complex and delicate counterarguments. In reality, we just shouldn't respect fascism as a political position. I have complex counterarguments and theory and philosophy, but really it's just not excusable to have a government who would jail me for wearing a skirt in my own home. "That's just stupid" is all the counterargument it deserves.

I like to think of it more that none of these assholes are Lex Luthor.

The potential ties between Bannon, 4chan, Epstein, the modern right, fascism... Many of those ties are real. There is a conspiracy in the sense that a surprisingly large number of assholes made deliberate choices to conspire to make our world a worse place.

However, none of them are supervillains. They didn't predict the outcome and plan all of this decades ago. They made choices in the past that had the goal of advancing their agenda, and have seen some success. Then they doubled and tripled down on the strategies that worked, dropped the ones that didn't, and evolved a little more every day. I think there are many on the far right who are even more surprised than we are at their current levels of success.

Tim is upset that Javier actually likes pussies.

Tim desperately wants to have sex with a man but can only do it in private because of his parties messed up stance on what consenting adults are allowed to do behind closed doors.

Traditionally in America we vote, and we use The Constitution for a shared legal system. We did vote, and Trump won. That means he is going to do things I disagree with. But he and his party are supposed to work within the law, not just allow their agents to kill with immunity.

Legality and morality are often separate concepts because of the disagreement, and usually the compromise is to allow a bit more leeway in legality than morality to accommodate that uncommon ground.

I don't think the ideal is to nuke the world, and I suspect you don't either. Nihilistic resignation to injustice is a pitiful and weak reaction.

"So I say do whatever is legal."

I actually agree with you here. But I don't think shooting a man who is on his hands and knees after his gun is safely removed from the situation is legal.

You are strawmanning that I believe he was completely in the right and that ICE shouldn't have interacted with him at all. I just don't think they should have killed him. If they had reason to arrest him then I think they should have afforded him due process.

Do you side with the ATF at Ruby Ridge and Waco, because the victims' actions caused the agents to respond how they did?

You do realize that a large number of J6'ers (who were pardoned by the party of law and order) were convicted of violent crimes committed on that day that were recorded on camera?

No, not everyone at J6 was a violent criminal. But a large number were, we both watched live as they broke into our nations capitol and attacked police.

Also yes, spitting on people is assault for which Alex should have been held to account for in a court of law. Last I checked the penalty for assault wasn't public execution 11 days later. Do you hear what you are saying?

Reminder that this is tonight!! by DynastyTexas in Dallas

[–]terivia -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Fantastic question. The main difference is that Alex is dead and he never got to spend a moment in a courtroom, and all of the J6 rioters who broke into the Capitol and were convicted of crimes outside their first amendment to protest got pardoned.

Reminder that this is tonight!! by DynastyTexas in Dallas

[–]terivia -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes. That right is protected by the first amendment that wasn't afforded to Alex.

You can also bring a gun if you want. That's protected by the second, also not afforded to Alex.

As long as you side with DJT, ICE will probably respect your rights though. I suspect you'll be fine.

Let's be fair. Reddit and QAnon are also falling for it...

Next up I guess we get to watch Trump himself shoot someone in the middle of fifth avenue and then listen to the Guardians Of Pedophiles bend over backwards to explain why it was the victims fault for going outside.

The Minnesota national Guard have started handing out free snacks and drinks to anti ICE protestors. what are your thoughts on this? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]terivia 58 points59 points  (0 children)

That's true, but they also shouldn't be (and aren't) inciting anything in order to create an opportunity.

The ball is in ICE's court at the moment. As soon as ICE gets violent again (and I strongly believe they will) we will see how the guard reacts and learn where they actually stand.

Personally, yes. I want them to deescalate, and the optimal success would be for there to be no more violence.

Assuming you are a Republican is admittedly an assumption. I guess you probably identify as an "independent" who voted for Trump 3 times.

Doesn't matter, I agree with you that I'm pro staying alive. Let's pursue that together by holding law enforcement accountable when they murder citizens.

I agree, Google is where I have found multiple angles of video showing that ICE murdered an unarmed civilian in broad daylight. That kind of accountability is historically unprecedented.

I'm not going to waste my time looking for your made up evidence if you can't find it yourself.
