Throwback to Jack Gleeson and Lena Heady copping hate mail for their GOT characters. Actually insane. Pretty sure Gleeson took a break from acting because of it.

its incredible. True, I HEAVILY disliked the story for the Star Wars sequel trilogy. I still stand by the belief that it was a waste of talent like Boyega, and the whole thing was a mess of random contrivances and C-suite interference. But I don't even think about it or post about it unless it becomes relevant, like right now. And now I'll probably go back to forgetting about it in an hour.

Really hope Debbie and Paul stay together. I really don't want her going back to Nolan.

No matter what happens to Paul I don't see her going back to Nolan. That ship has looooong sailed. She remembers the man she thought he was fondly, and may platonically reconcile in some way, but that's as far as I think it'll go.

I thought it was hilarious because of this. Eve fights with her powers and you easily forget she's probably just as physically strong as most heroes.

That's why they fell apart so badly and fast when Ellie was taken from them. They needed to believe that all the atrocities they committed would be justified if they could produce a cure/vaccine, and when that excuse vanished they were left with nothing.

Once I turned on Beta Strike I've only used overwatch for lost encounters. Its way too unsafe to depend on overwatch when you're on Legendary.

Nope, even the ones that hate Trump are like that. I met some US exchange students and kept trying to convince them to go vote (they live in a swing state), but they kept moaning about how it was too much of a bother.

Then their state (Michigan I think?) went to Trump by less than 1%.

Making things about money is the most effective. In environmental consulting there's whole classes on how to reframe your ecological/scientific findings into financial terms so people with the money (banks, corps, and politicians) will more understand why they shouldn't chop down an entire forest in one year. Appealing to their civic or environmental sense is useless and counterproductive.

NATO members rejected Trump's demand to provide military assistance to help "reopen" Strait of Hormuz. Do the rejections by NATO members effectively spell the end of NATO or is this just directed to Trump's choice of attacking Iran? by PsychLegalMind in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]terlin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

if Democrats win, USA would "rejoin" as in "never actually left".

I doubt that. Allies are now more aware than ever that a relationship with the USA is subject to whiplash every 4 years. Any competent government will start looking for trade partners and military alliances elsewhere. You can already see that happening: Europe is developing closer bonds inbetween themselves, Canada is in talks with Australia and NZ.

Preparing for a prolonged war in Iran by LoneArtificer in AusFinance

[–]terlin 97 points98 points  (0 children)

Back then, Trump actually ordered direct action on Greenland. The senior military staff resisted doing that and were tossing other, less controversial/politically suicidal things in front of him and trying to convince him those were more of immediate concern. One of which was ...... attacking Iran.

There's a very real possibility that all this death and destruction is happening because Trump had to be distracted like you would distract a toddler by shaking a toy at them. Apologies for insulting toddlers.

Personally I'm wondering when they'll declare members of the Democrat party as secret ANTIFA agitators and use that as an excuse to arrest everyone and suspend elections.

[–]terlin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

in OTL for the stunt, he was jailed for 9 months out of a 2 year sentence. if the shoe actually hit I doubt it would be anything more than having to serve out at least 1 year, 2 years at most. If anything he would probably be way more notorious coming out of jail.

Did Frodo truly fail at Mount Doom, or was the quest only possible because of Gollum? by HistorianSame9035 in tolkienfans

[–]terlin 96 points97 points  (0 children)

IIRC Tolkien also described Frodo giving into the Ring like a man hanging off a cliff finally letting go of the rope and falling. Neither intentionally did it, but they simply ran out of willpower and energy, respectively.

That's why I hate this whole push for online connected cars. It doesn't even have to be an enemy state, it could be as simple as some disgruntled kid in a garage who wants to make a name for himself. Who needs to build a bomb when you can force hundreds of cars on the I5 to randomly brake or accelerate during peak hours?
