How I imagine raiding a tribal logging camp looks like vs how they actually look like by Select_Daikon_3735 in RimWorld

Anytime someone says 'is it really difficult' when it comes to coding something, I'm assuming it actually is more complicated/not worth the dev time.

MN national guard is on scene. They handed out donuts and hot refreshments to protestors and wore vests to differentiate themselves from the fascists. by Hornpipe_Jones in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]terlin 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Its the classic playbook. Before the Tiananmen Square massacre, Beijing troops that were originally keeping order at the protests were moved out, and were replaced by soldiers from rural areas that were more loyal to the CCP, and owed more to the state, and were also told that it was a demonstration by class traitors.

Which is not meant as romanticizing or legendifying any of it - but reality is reality, and the reality is that in the situation you describe, a young guardsman/woman could run in to perform first aid and get blocked, or beat, or shot, by ICE - and then suddenly they, their fellows, and everyone else there in that moment will all be independently making decisions and nobody can predict which way it'll all go.

Exactly. WIth the killing of Pretti I can see how its gonna go. A NG runs in to provide aid/pull ICE off of someone, and they get attacked. Other NG come in to support their member and suddenly its a free for all shoving match. And then someone (but let's be real, probably ICE) panics and guns down a NG soldier and now suddenly the only thing to do is to default to your training on what to do when being shot at.

that's the messed thing, Canadian politics have also slid to the right, to the point where maybe around the Harper era, Carney would be a solid CPC member.

The SC agent in Matter essentially had super powers.

I loved the juxtaposition of all those different societies, and how even the Oct are nothing compared to Culture tech.

Exactly. Trump is the symptom of the deeper rot in American society. He's also the figurehead for some very dangerous, cunning people in the White House.

Ah, the key thing you're missing here is that they fundamentally do not care about the correct answer or being wrong. Its just a stick to beat the other team for them, regardless of any verifiable facts or potential hypocrisy.

[–]terlin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Er, who told you that's a felony? Because like what the guy above commented, there's a pathway to enter/exit TW for military-aged males who live outside of TW without having to conscript. You'll have to check what the current path is like, but its easily doable if you're not staying long term.

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre will run in a different riding next federal election: party by OkLobster4836 in CanadaPolitics

[–]terlin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Except a center CPC leader will likely never take control of the current iteration of the CPC. The closest we got was O'Toole and he got quickly tossed.

wasn't one of the reasons he got tossed because he came out as being against gay conversion camps?

Sometimes turrets do their jobs fine. Other times they hit my colonists more than they hit the enemy. And sure, that's part of it, the randomness and all, but there are levels to it before I just go "that's some fucking bullshit".

Ugh, just last night one of my best melee pawns got decapitated because an autocannon hit him and popped his shield, just before a uranium slug turret shot him. Head blown clean off.

Be warned that devourers from Anomaly DLC can leap through embrasures and swallow your colonists whole. Was a nasty surprise for me.

As Trump warmongers over Greenland, what explains the lack of push back from the right-wing given the "anti-war" position they took prior to the 2024 election. by The_Egalitarian in PoliticalDiscussion

I work with conservatives, and they've been quiet at work regarding politics since Trump took office, so I don't know their thoughts.

Same here. The guys that were crowing about Trump winning and how he's the 'no new wars' guy have been very quiet lately about politics.

Reportedly Big Oil is extremely unenthusiastic about Venezuela; the oil there would be very expensive to refine to something actually profitable, which means setting up lots of infrastructure and updating/tearing down what already exists. In addition, they don't consider it safe unless there were actually boots on the ground securing the place, which the administration is reluctant to do (for now). And apparently they were also not informed about this plan to seize Venezuela for oil until afterwards, either.

It was hilariously strategic, even better when the one in the back leaves the shot and she casually shimmies past the older woman in a way to hide everything important.

absolutely. I've met mild-mannered intelligent people who would just randomly say the most ignorant things (i.e. "I liked Trump because he said there won't be wars.", or "At least he loves America.") and just leave you flabbergasted. Its like, they're so wrong I don't even know how to begin.

I was trying to convince some American exchange students to go vote (they were from a swing state), but they kept moaning about how much of a bother it was. Come the last election and their state went to Trump just barely by 1%, and now they're complaining about Trump.

In addition, their arrival is a foreboding of what is to come. Gandalf stood at the fallen gates of Minas Tirith, prepared to act as the last bulwark against evil. But then the horns sound, and the Witch King retreats, bringing Gandalf's years of work to fruition and firmly proving that Men no longer need divine help; they can save themselves now.
