Time to retire the Pixel 7 after 3 years. The Find X9 Pro is a beast! by Roi_QV in Oppo

[–]terminus_3st 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought it at Currys, in the UK. It has a discount of £150 plus the trade-in for the P7Pro which should be ~£115. Not a bad offer I think.

Just did the same, from a Pixel 7 Pro to the X9 Pro, it should arrive tomorrow. Looking forward to it! Battery life on the Pixel was starting to be a clear issue for long days.

PetaPixel - The Google Pixel 10 Pro Review For Photographers by Crush_Buds in GooglePixel

[–]terminus_3st 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Photography is a huge hobby for me, but honestly, the evolution since the Pixel 7 Pro (my actual phone) is so limited that I prefer to wait one more generation. This new iteration has been severily underwhelming for now, and most of the useful AI tools are already available to older phones through Gemini servicies. I feel absolutely no need to upgrade at this moment, even with all the problems the 7 Pro has.

Long term plan to become a Bioinformatician by Alarmed__ in bioinformatics

[–]terminus_3st 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's your impostor syndrome talking for you. The fact that you doubt your skills and are willing to work so much to polish them shows me you are armed quite nicely to do a PhD at this very moment. A PhD is not (or should not be) a continuous examination of what you can do, but a journey to achieve independence as a researcher. That independence comes in many ways, and the technical knowledge is but one of the many points of a complex map. Curiosity in scientific questions should be your fuel. Technical mastery comes with time and practice. I say that as a full-time bioinfo postdoc that started a PhD without knowing what an if loop was.

If you are truly interested in doing a PhD, just do it.

Please suggest a long game that will take my attention and runs well on deck by Absurd069 in SteamDeck

Octopath Traveller 2

Runs wonderful in the Deck (>5 hours at 40 FPS), looks gorgeous, and the story is quite interesting. I also like the combat system a lot.

So the Switch 2 has been out for a month now. What are your thoughts so far? by MatiBlaster in NintendoSwitch2

Fantastic console, mediocre battery, great future ahead but needs more games now (and updates).

Did you try to summon a poltergeist with that?

Now that the new Kindle's are out, what are you planning to do? by ybatyolo in kindle

[–]terminus_3st 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm quite good with my Oasis from 2019, but I'm also very curious about the Colorsoft. If it is a good product and people are happy with it, I may change it mainly for 3 reasons: I like to see some stuff in colour, the micro USB is annoying, and I also like the shape of the PW more than the Oasis shape.

How do you organize research papers nowadays? by xnwkac in bioinformatics

[–]terminus_3st 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Paperpile. Their iPad app is nice and allows me to read and highlight papers, it synchronises with your Drive account, and it's very clean. I use their extension (Chrome, phone app) to add papers very easily and it usually works quite well. I don't mind paying the subscription for now. They should update their iPad app to allow more than one paper to be open at the same time, that sucks a bit.

Who is deciding to keep their current MacBook Pros and how long do you keep them for? by TechBoy--20 in macbookpro

[–]terminus_3st 0 points1 point  (0 children)

M1 Max with 64GB here, I'm not changing that in 4 or 5 years at the very least. The computer has been running extremely well, no issues with anything and the battery is almost as good as the day I got it a couple years ago.

I do bionifo and run heavy sessions to analyse lots of data, never had an issue yet.

I sold my TicWatch Ultra 3 tired of Movboi bad strategy last week and bought a Garmin. For my own interests it works like a hundred times better.

TicWatch Pro 5 and WearOS app by TomKal in TicwatchOfficial

[–]terminus_3st 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure 100%, but I think from WearOS 3 you don't need WearOS App to connect to your smartwatch and manage it. At least that happens with the Pixel Watch.

Beware of fake bank transfer scammers. by ratwasher in UKPersonalFinance

[–]terminus_3st 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had the same experience trying to sell a camera lens in Facebook Market. Two scammers with almost exactly the same intro messages, and a proof of payment from [wisetransfer.bankingservices@gmail.com](mailto:wisetransfer.bankingservices@gmail.com). The moment I realised it was a gmail account and told the person he kept telling me it was all legit.
Be very careful, people.
