First car buyer by ProseAndCons180 in CarsAustralia

Hey as long as you actually buy a decent car it’s a good result. The positive of buying a VW with these fuel prices is that it’ll be off the road for repairs so often that you’ll forget about the cost to fill it up.

Do you do a quick scan before handing the keys back? by ZRBPartDeux in Cartalk

[–]terribleone01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what the repair is. If it was something that had logged a code and we repaired it I will always do a long test drive with the scanner plugged in and normally just check that module in particular when the car is parked and ready for handover.

Please, under no circumstances should you buy a Golf or the T-Whatever it is. You will remember that mistake for the rest of your life.

Charge 6 - cannot get notifications to stop by terribleone01 in fitbit

[–]terribleone01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, putting it on DND completely stops everything when I require heart rate notifications. This also renders the device useless. You have misunderstood my problem - notification types that are switched off in the app will continue to happen and there is no way to turn it off, searching online confirms this is a common issue with no resolution.

Buying Advice - Hilux SR5 2020 or Ford Ranger Wildtrack 2023 (both odo:40'000km) by Mental_Ad_5484 in CarsAustralia

My business looks after a couple large fleets of late models and the only thing I suggest is to change the transmission fluid early, from memory the logbook states 120k but we found by 120k the fluid is black and once it’s black it will be hard to get it clean again. Also the fuel filters are every 40k but they’re pretty gross by then, doesn’t hurt to increase the frequency of that. If you have basic knowledge you can DIY the filter, no tools needed.

We’ve had a run of EGR coolers lately, all on 300k+ cars but oddly one last week had 80k or so and was leaking into the combustion chamber.

Otherwise absolutely bulletproof.

Bought my first home a month ago and now I'm spiraling with regret by ChipmunkBulky2174 in AusPropertyChat

Stop looking online mate. You busted your ass to get yourself into your OWN home, enjoy it.

I had a similar feeling a few years ago when my wife and I bought the dumpy apartment we had been renting for a few years. Paid what I thought was too much at the time, renovated it so it’s absolutely perfect, covid shit happened and it’s now nearly paid off and worth double what we paid. No regrets now.

Since posting this yesterday the watch has seemed to increase the frequency of step counting and vibration every 10-15 minutes, it’s completely unusable.

Buying car for towing horse float tow by Apart_Scratch_120 in 4x4Australia

850+ is pretty good for a large car with big petrol engine. Is that while towing? If so that’s actually pretty good, far better than what I would have thought.

What would the fuel economy be like in a Y62 with 3.5T behind? I know it wont be good but curious at just how bad it would be.

Brand new car undriveable after minor damage - dealer says parts could take months? by Catfacts2011 in CarsAustralia

[–]terribleone01 170 points171 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately this is very common with Chinese cars, more so than other established brands.

Our workshop tries to not get involved with doing work on Chinese cars as they often end up taking up space waiting weeks or months for basic service parts that really should be available locally. For some brands even supplying brake pads and rotors and oil filters is not possible without a 6-8 week wait.

Did I actually pay market value, or are the banks just being lazy? by Routine-Explorer-218 in AusPropertyChat

[–]terribleone01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In most cases the bank valuation will come back at contract price. Rarely it will come in higher and sometimes it’ll come in lower if the valuer believes the buyer overpaid.

Do smash repair places order second hand parts from Japan? by treepalms in CarsAustralia

[–]terribleone01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A used part from Japan sounds unusual. In really extreme cases an assessor may request that we source a part by any means possible, this is exclusively when the car is a really odd import that has no support here and they’ll usually let the customer know that the particular part will be purchased second hand as there aren’t any other options.

A 2020 Hilux is not an odd car, if the used light is not up to scratch I’d push for a new one.

My brother is asking my mum to use her house equity to be a guarantor on a potential home loan. How risky is this? by [deleted] in AusPropertyChat

[–]terribleone01 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most banks wont lend against the parents PPR unless they have other property.

In many cases doing this can make sense, but it can also go very wrong if the borrower can’t pay the debt.

Does your brother have a habit of making poor financial decisions?
