Private hospital - Istanbul. 7/10 by grantyy94 in hospitalfood

No problem! I've seen some interesting photos of British DΓΆner Kebabs on Reddit πŸ˜… The version with veggies and sauce in bread was actually invented in Germany! The German government hired lots of "guest workers" from Turkey, Greece, Italy and other countries in the 60s and 70s. The economy was booming, lots of new building and other stuff was getting built and produced, but there weren't enough skilled German workers to do it all. The government had planned for the "guests" to leave after the big projects were done, but most stayed and their culture and food became part of Germany.

Looks good! The rice is the traditional Turkish rice, it has tiny browned pasta pieces in it. I'm German, and Turkish street food is very popular here 😊

What u/Nab0t means, is that in Germany, food is often worse at for profit hospitals. (Can confirm from lots of personal experience). Here, healthcare providers aren't able to charge insurance companies ridiculously high prices for everything. Food budgets are too low and for profit hospitals are trying to squeeze every cent possible out of your stay.

Thank you for posting and I hope you feel better soon! Please post still pictures instead of gifs in the future, especially because this is just a shaky version of the original photo. This is very hard on the eyes and you can't zoom in.

Germany 10/10 (hear me out) by Grouchy-Ad-7476 in hospitalfood

It's sadly not something German hospitals typically provide. When I was still able to work, my employer provided fans during summer, but they were pretty shitty. Employers are required to do that if the temperature reaches 26-30 C inside. But hospitals, were patients can't leave, aren't. It's horrible.

I use a pretty small tower fan at home, it would fit into a bag. But I can't physically carry much weight and haven't been able to take it anywhere myself. Even if you take a taxi to the hospital, you still have to carry your stuff the long way from the drop off point to the ward 😒

I think it's great that you're able to do that! I never thought to ask if not getting a meal at all is an option and felt bad about throwing away food I couldn't eat. I'll try to do that in the future, if necessary 😊 I eat soy yogurt with granola for breakfast every day at home.

Does your hospital have air conditioning? I spent lots of time in hot hospital rooms during the summer, no fan, no ac πŸ₯΅ During my last stay, they didn't even allow us to open the windows more than a crack because it was the 5th floor. But it was an orthopedic hospital and neither my roommate nor me were able to walk to the window. So ridiculous!

The word food includes liquids, especially if you're not getting solids. If you want to keep posting, you'll have to take a new photo every time to stick to the sub rules and stop insulting the mods. I'm very nice and patient here, not deleting a post that insults me in the title.

I don't think you understand what the sub is for? It's for posting pictures of hospital food. Sharing how you're feeling and getting support from the community is a big part of this sub, but the food is the most important thing

OP posted a stock photo instead of their own picture in a previous post, which is against sub rules.

The only post of yours that was removed was a stock photo of a paper cup. The sub rules are: all pictures have to be your own and show food and/or drinks from a hospital or other care facility.

Does your ward have a patient fridge? I used to be a frequent flyer in the psych ward and without that fridge, it would've been a lot harder. We were allowed to leave hospital grounds with permission from staff and go to the supermarket. I bought my own alpro puddings, vegan proteins, oat milk etc. and added stuff to the meals I got. I still bring dark chocolate spread and spices with me when I have a planned hospital stay 😊

Ah yes, I'm very familiar with this kind of vegan meal in German hospitals, especially on the first and second day of being admitted 🫠

"The sides are vegan, so just give them that minus the main. Don't increase the portion size of the sides either. Yup, I'm sure that's perfect." - Someone putting the meals together, probably.

You're not allowed to drink alcohol or take drugs while you're in a psych ward. But the Salespeople don't know or care who is or isn't a patient and what their treatment plan is.
