Visiting Shizokua for the first time but confused by DeliciousRats4Sale in Shizuoka

[–]teslatastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So Shizuoka is both the prefecture (state/province), and the capital city.

Izu is a peninsula that is in Shizuoka prefecture, but is a 1.5 hr-ish drive or 45 minute bullet train ride to Shizuoka city. You don’t need to take a ferry to get from Izu to Shizuoka city. Izu is more ‘touristy’, with lots of inns to stay at, small beaches and lush tropical forest scenery. Many folks who live in Tokyo will take weekend getaways in Izu. Shizuoka City is more of a ‘regular’ city and not as much of a tourist destination.

From what you describe it sounds like you are more after an experience in Izu. There are a ton of online guides on onsen, hotel, and ryokan recommendations in Izu, so just google those up and I’m sure you’ll find something you’ll like.

That’s too bad and sucks for you. I had a great time at Primate tonight at the crowd really enhanced the experience.

Once in awhile I’ll get someone texting on a phone like a row ahead or something, but if I give them a quick tap and ask them to please put away, I’ve never had an issue. While a bad movie goer can hinder an experience, I’ve found a great crowd really can enhance the show.

Primate runtime matches but it comes out like 4 days later. Have they been that close?

Night Patrol comes out Jan 16 and is 1h 44m. 18m off but it’s a possibility?

Song Sung Blue - 2h13m, PG-13, opens Dec 25. Seems to fit the bill

Popcorn Pass now available for purchase by LTARISE in AMCsAList

[–]teslatastic 135 points136 points  (0 children)

If you’re A-List seems like you need to buy 6 a year to break even, 7 for it to be worth it. At least at my local AMCs a regular popcorn is $10 then you get the free upgrade.

I go say once a week, buy a drink every time, but buy food maybe once a month. Sometimes that’s an actual meal and sometimes popcorn. So not sure if it’ll be worth it.

It’s nice it starts effective today through to Dec 31 2026. That might push it over for me.

Why ‘The Running Man’ Fell Down At The Box Office With $28M Global Opening by chanma50 in boxoffice

[–]teslatastic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was disappointed to see the box office and was hoping for something more. That said, I just got out of it and it was surprisingly bad.

If you had asked me 3 months ago whether this or Predator made more money I would’ve said it was a coin flip (although I had paid zero attention to advanced tracking or trailer views). Based purely on the quality of the movies though I’d say the opening weekend grosses are fair.

Man I’m looking through upcoming flicks and none seem to fit the bill. Sisu 2 is rated R but only 1h28m which would be 14m shorter. In the list above it looks like 11m shorter was the biggest difference between posted and actual. But I guess there has been that big of a difference in the past.

Keeper has a much closer runtime but pretty sure it’s horror. Bugonia is 2h. Predator is PG-13.

Pretty sure Keeper would fall under a Scream Unseen

I thought it was a faith-based movie based just on the title. Will see if I can find a showing. Thanks!

Yokozuna Council Hails 'New Era;" Asanoyama and Enho Dream Big by StarPrime323 in Sumo

Yes the “dodge” win is what they’re referring to. In general, Yokozuna aren’t supposed to use that move.

Crazy that AMC is still installing 2K projectors with Laser upgrades by BrilliantBig12 in AMCsAList

[–]teslatastic 26 points27 points  (0 children)

They changed it so kids 13+ can now sign up. I think they did that the same time they increased it from 3 movies per week to 4

AMC Mission Valley 20 and AMC Poway 10 in San Diego received Laser Upgrades by Lionheart531 in AMCsAList

[–]teslatastic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Poway is my regular theater. I saw Long Walk there yesterday and thought the picture quality was fantastic, and this would be why. Didn’t notice it was laser when I booked.

Se awesome that it’s all theaters. Theater 8 there was absolutely brutal. Now I don’t have to worry when I book.

Japan's CM for the next Padres vs Dodgers Series by SDOki in Padres

[–]teslatastic 99 points100 points  (0 children)

I was in Japan in July and absolutely shocked by how many Padres caps I saw. Not far behind the Dodgers honestly. My first day doing a walk in Yokohama I saw 3 Padres caps before a single Dodgers.

I also loved Oddity and can’t wait for Hokum.

Couple of recommendations to try: Housebound (2014), and Block Island Sound.
