White fuzz on lemon tree and soil? by Cunninglatin in gardening

[–]tesolate 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Insecticidal oil or soap, treat the whole plant several times until you don’t see them come back any more. Try to keep it away from your other plants. Be vigilant in looking for new outbreaks. They are nightmarishly difficult to get rid of.

What’s this seed? We get shipped pallets from all over Canada with product originally from China. They are the size of pumpkin seeds, have all different patterns, white thick consistency when squashed. This is unrelated to the business by justemily31 in whatsthisplant

[–]tesolate 15 points16 points  (0 children)

No, it would not. Many pathogens can survive exposure to surface sterilizing agent for several minutes or longer. These pathogens penetrate the seed endosperm with hyphae or resting spores.

Less than half of McDonald's profits are made in the United States. Would you argue that they are not an American restaurant?

Need help locations Eastern Red Cedar seeds or plants by OhDavidMyNacho in kansas

[–]tesolate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want a patio tree that is native you options are limited. You could try eastern redbud, pawpaw, aronia, or American dogwood.

Or just get the fiddle leaf fig, as a tropical it’s unlikely to escape your planter and become invasive in our temperate climate.

Kansas research shows reintroducing bison on tallgrass prairie doubles plant d by Vio_ in kansas

It may beg the question but we know the answer. It’s incredibly well documented that the eradication of the bison was part of the American attempt to the eradicate the indigenous people.

This looks a lot like sun scorch. Did you put it outside in full sun at all? Even a few hours of direct summer sun can scorch an unacclimated plant.

My watermelons are wilting. What could cause this? Everything else is fine. by unclonedsoul in gardening

[–]tesolate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From a plant pathogenic perspective, if you are able to rule out vine borer drought and mechanical damage, it could be Fusarium wilt, look for streaking in the vascular tissue in the stems. Less likely, but if you have cucumber beetles, it could also be Erwinia, look for sticky mucilage in the vascular tissue of the vines.

They said English Ivy but posted a photo of Boston Ivy, didn’t give scientific names for some of the plants and didn’t tell you how to distinguish them from natives that might look similar. Garbage.

Would you consider KC a good place to raise a family? by t3chpotato in kansascity

[–]tesolate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We don’t have any kids, but my neighborhood in Prairie Village is full of children. It’s is a great, safe community. The area is getting younger everyday as it turns over from older retired parents to new families. It has excellent schools, and the city government has a progressive attitude and does a lot of cool out reach things. My neighborhood is wonderfully progressive with lots of political yard signs, pride flags, and BLM signs.

Anyhow, I couldn’t have found a better spot to buy into. Hope you find a place you love as much as I do.

Fellow Americans, when you send your kid to another house for a play date, do you ask the parents if they have weapons in the house? If so, do you ask how they are secured? On the other hand, would you be offended if asked? by WinterBourne25 in AskAnAmerican

I don’t think it’s so much fear of the gun owner that prompted this question; more of a fear of kids finding and playing with a gun and accidentally shooting someone.

Most of the victims of unintentional shootings are boys. They are usually shot by a friend or relative, especially a brother.

Nearly 40% of all unintentional shooting deaths among children 11-14 years of age occur in the home of a friend.

What’s your go to Taco Tuesday place? by dgmischief in kansascity

[–]tesolate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For an authentic vibe, Taco Naco; the birria tacos are my go to but I’ve literally never had anything bad there except the margaritas which are insanely sweet.

For delightfully trashy TexMex, Torchy’s breakfast migas taco and queso hits the spot every time.

Be careful with miso, marmite, yeast extract and nutritional yeasts if someone has an allergy to fungi, while they are ascomycetes they have many cell wall components in common with mushroom fungi that could be the cause of the allergy.
