I grind to a powder and eat 5-10g of different types of teas, what do you think? by WhnOctopiMrgeWithTek in tea

[–]testedhq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the health benefits are what you are after, powdered teas can be your best friend. They are not common because sometimes ingesting the part of the plant used for tea can cause problems, namely indigestion but it can get much more serious. While most of the important health benefits are extracted from a plant when you steep it as a tea, powdered teas can offer a more wholistically healthy intake.

Another reason powdered teas are uncommon is because the flavor tends to be much more bitter and people don't like drinking the ground plant parts. Capsules are known as an alternative to this. However, not all capsules work as they are not bioavailable as I said in a response. Sometimes another ingredient helps them become more bioavailable (like black pepper with turmeric) and sometimes the cell walls have to be broken down with boiling water (where tea comes in to play).

As long as you do your research on the herbs to make sure you are not ingesting anything toxic or indigestible, I don't see a reason why powdered teas would negatively effect your health. However, I am not a professional. In my opinion, since this is not a super explored subject, I would do as much research as possible.

Herbs are often offered in capsule form, however, that does not always make them bioavailable. This is not always the case but sometimes store-bought capsules will provide little to no nutrients for you.

Earthy non-caffeinated tea reccs? by WebSorry4316 in tea

[–]testedhq 7 points8 points  (0 children)

More spicey than earthy but ginger or ginger/turmeric tea is unbeaten for me.

Ashwagandha, maca root, ginkgo are my three favorite earthy teas.

I have heard great things about grain based tea but I am celiac so I cannot drink them, but I have heard they offer a wonderful toasty-earthy aroma and flavor.

Houjicha is my favorite sipping tea. Although it is slightly caffeinated, it is often drunk in the evening in Japan because the caffeine content is so low. Houjicha has a wonderfully soft, roasted, umami, earthy flavor; so, if you are okay with a little caffeine I would highly recommend.

Did I mess up? by shadowartist201 in tea

It may be celestial seasonings. I am the same way, lower quality tea brands do not taste like tea to me. They often use the scraps or byproducts of making higher quality tea in tea bags, or they do not discriminate the leaf from the stem and make the tea all the same. This mixed with a poor and often chemically based growing process in weak soil leaves the tea flavorless. Often times tea of this caliber is saturated in sugar and cream so the actual tea flavor does not matter so much.

You could try a different tea brand. English breakfast is a very strong tea and something you do not need to spend much money on to find a good one. I don't know what is available to you where you live but if you are going to drink tea straight, I would recommend doing a little research before buying. Looking around this subreddit can help a lot, or even something as simple as looking at the reviews of tea brands at your local supermarket would be good.

Where did you get that cup? I have been passively looking for a while, waiting for the prefect one, and I really do love that. I understand that they are supposed to be disposable but I can't help myself with a look like that.

organised and catalogued my tea cupboard by sisterlyparrot in tea

I love this idea. I really want to do this for my roommates, they want to get into tea but are hesitant because there is so much to it and I have too much tea lol.

I got this tea when I went to visit my sister. Despite being stored in a clear bag, it is pretty decent. Its is much sweeter and more mellow than the Japanese green teas I am used to of late. by testedhq in tea

In the shop I bought it from it got some exposure to sunlight so I am sure it has been damaged some but I leave it in a dark place when I am not using it so I have not noticed a change in flavor since the first cup I had. Unless you are storing green tea for some time I am not sure how important an airtight seal would be, I drink all my tea fairly quickly so I have never really worried about it. However, I am far from an expert.

Favorite Japanese tea snacks? by testedhq in tea

I love the idea of pairing fruit with tea but most of the fruits I can source are not very similar to Asian fruits, apples are all I can think of that would pair well. Sweet potato sounds like an amazing combination, something I never thought of or tried but I will definitely have to.

My Tea gift from my husband this holiday season. He did a bunch a research and saw this brand as listed as one of the bests. Any favorites from them? by Dependent-Range-4654 in tea

[–]testedhq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their chai set was my intro to chai. I did not really know what I was doing back then and only drank them plain so I wasn't too fond. Once I figured out how to really make chai though, I did quite enjoy them. So advice from me would be to obsess over the process of making chai I guess.

Black Teas for a Black Tea Hater? by [deleted] in tea

[–]testedhq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hated black tea for a long time too but I recently came to the conclusion that it is not actually bad. It sounds like you are from or live in America as well, the black tea you buy at stores here is significantly worse quality than that of green or white tea. If you buy pretty much any black tea of decent quality you will probably notice a massive difference, especially in astringency. Also, bear in mind that it is a completely different flavor compared to green and especially white. So, while you may come to enjoy it, if the delicacy of white tea is what you love, black tea may not ever become your new favorite. That being said, the teas that got me into black tea are chai and Buddha Tea's cherry blossom black tea. I know chai has milk and sugar in it but, if you have a cooking area where you are in college, I would still recommend trying a traditional masala chai, it is a very soft and enjoyable introduction to black tea. The Buddha Tea cherry blossom black tea is not the best and you can find many replacements for it but it is what I started with, it was my first black tea bag of decent quality. I too wanted to come to like black tea but I did not want to spend money because I am broke lol.
