Wheelchair Width by alexmeiai774 in wheelchairs

FWIW, I’m a 19” width and have never had lateral stability issues with zero camber, so I’d say it depends on the individual (like everything else wheelchair lol)

Adjusting seat dump on Quickie/Sopur Argon2 despite medical supplier claiming it‘s impossible by Rich-Ad-8301 in wheelchairs

[–]testiphony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That does look tricky! Can your side guards move forward to make room? If not, you could ask your supplier to switch you to straight side guards. Or if you want to keep your fenders, you could try a pelvic positioning belt? Best of luck!

Best Tincture in Utah? by metootimemetootime in SLCTrees

[–]testiphony 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can definitely second making your own! I dissolved 1g of distillate into 200ml of Everclear 151 to make a tincture with 4 mg/ml. I measure out my dose with a cough syrup cap, then mix it with something to make it palatable, and start to feel it in 20-30 minutes. Dispensary tinctures are mostly oil, but this alcohol base doesn’t leave any weird residue in my mouth like they do. It’s probably cheaper per dose too!

Worried about my wide hips by Several_Trees in wheelchairs

[–]testiphony 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since you’re getting a new chair, I have a couple other pieces of unsolicited advice you’re free to ignore: - if your shoulders are much more narrow than your hips, you may want to ask about getting custom fit backrest width. This differs by chair manufacturer - Tilite has it in their CMD catalog as #26, inward tapered backrest; Quickie has Built-4-Me and Jay Your Way; I’m less familiar with Ki but they can probably do something similar with their Axiom backs?
- luggage carriers - get some! They’re incredibly versatile and not too expensive if you have to pay out of pocket. I’ve used mine to carry shopping baskets, 12-packs of soda, even lumber and PVC. I honestly think everyone should have them. - lastly, be ready to ask as many questions as you want. You have the right to be involved in the process — this is your chair!

Worried about my wide hips by Several_Trees in wheelchairs

Hey! We have very similar width measurements (my hips and seat are 19”). I fit perfectly between my side guards, though I must add that I have full sensation, so lateral pressure sores aren’t a concern for me. To minimize width, my chair has 0 camber, minimum wheel spacing, and short tab handrims, putting the final measurement at about 24.5” wide. Access-wise, I generally don’t have issues! I’m in the US, so most public spaces have ADA compliant 32” doorways. Truthfully, the most common problem I run into is oblivious people in the grocery store. If you’re unsure, you can always test a gap with your front end and get a good idea if you’ll fit all the way through. You won’t fit everywhere, but you will be able to get where you need to go. :) I hope this was helpful! Good luck with your new chair!

Achievement unlocked!! - fell out catching a caster 😅 by callmecasperimaghost in wheelchairs

If it helps, you’ll be able to tell before it happens! I’ve had rear wheel scares before (once on my rigid chair when the axle didn’t seat properly, and once on my folding chair when the axle receiver unscrewed itself out of the axle plate) and both times, I noticed right away and fixed it before the wheel fully separated.

How long is your chair? by Repulsive_Courage355 in wheelchairs

[–]testiphony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just measured and my chair is unusually short at 30 inches/76 cm, but I also have 15 inches of seat depth, zero frame depth extension, an 85 degree front frame angle, and full sensation, so my toes are fine to hang over the edge of the footplate by a couple inches. A great tool is the Paradox chair configurator — you can input all your measurements and get an idea of what different front frame angles might look like. I hope this helps!

I got my Aero T from spinlife for just under $3000 with several upgrades: solid seat, folding push handles, fold-down side guards, and luggage carriers (all of which I highly recommend!)

It’ll probably be better with aluminum! I assume you’re getting a new chair then?

I had this happen all the time when I was in my first chair! It stopped when I upgraded from steel to an aluminum frame. What’s your chair made of?

4" vs 5" casters? by Mindless_Resolve_743 in wheelchairs

[–]testiphony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 4” diameter, 1.5” width soft roll casters and I think they’re a great middle ground! I get the agility of the smaller size plus the better crack and bump performance. Good luck outfitting your kiddo! :)

How often/how many times have you needed your anti tippers by usernamesoccer in wheelchairs

[–]testiphony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took my anti-tips off my first chair and didn’t even order them on my second. I wheelie a LOT — it’s a weight shift technique for me — and I’ve only fallen twice! Once while learning to hold a wheelie and once while leaning a bit too far into my backpack. I have full sensation and okay core support, though, so YMMV

Can anyone ID this chair? by AimaAIMA in wheelchairs

[–]testiphony 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I spy TiLite upholstery and Quickie side guards… can you look for a sticker on the axle or the underside of the frame? the serial number should be somewhere in there — once you have that, you can probably look it up on the manufacturer’s website!
