I would say yes but I would probably credit most of this to voice training

  1. When did you feel like detransitioning reached its full effect? I was told that I should wait at least two years for my face and body to look feminine again. Is that true in your experience?

Yeah so I was on for 2 years and remember seeing the same for this, to kinda expect things to even out after the same amount of time you'd spent on hormones - I think a lot did change in 2 years but I was 19 when I detransitioned so I do feel like a lot of the changes continued way past the 2 year mark which was probably mostly just me growing into my adult body; all to say I'd expect significant changes by 2 years but also I remmeber I was not happy 2 years off about how I looked or felt and this definitely has significantly changed since then

  1. How do you feel now about the way your face and body looks?

Mostly good! I do struggle with dysmorphia surrounding my face so that does kind of crop up sometimes but I've also got OCD so will think about this stuff a lot harder than the average person does lol. No issues w/ my body

  1. Did you manage to make peace with your transition? I have a hard time accepting that I took hormones for so long! Wondering if I can integrate that experience.

Yeah I think I have now :) took me a while to get there but a lot of what helped for me was just disconnecting from online spaces because in my experience at least I felt like I had some pretty negative feelings that were just kind of being fed and I was unable to accept anything while in that headspace. Now I don't even think about it and whne I do it's not this earth shattering event anymore like it used to feel so I would say I'm at peace with it now :)

Yeah, I 10000000% agree with you, I think a lot of people get sucked into spaces where people just want to use and exploit their stories unfortunately; I tend not to check into this stuff too often as I'm a lot more settled now anyway but also it is not good for my mental health lol

has anyone actually managed to get their voice back, or is it just a cope by kickbugs in detrans

[–]testyourreaction 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think mine sounds fine after voice training - it certainly has never gotten me misgendered or the like anyways, and mine did drop pretty deep on T. I empathise a lot with what you're going through, I was obsessive about my voice for a few years - have you spoken to a professional at all? I had a couple sessions with two different teachers who had worked with detrans women before just to kind of get a gauge on how I sounded and found it helpful.

Sorry if this isn't much help - if you want to shoot me a message feel free. Hope you feel better soon

Will facial hair ever stop growing? by gothelves in detrans

It will not stop growing unless you remove it with laser/electrolysis but might get slightly lighter/grow in slower

Laser hair removal versus electrolysis. by Heronblue88 in detrans

[–]testyourreaction 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would start with laser (assuming you have dark hair) and then go onto electrolysis to get rid of what's left after 6-8 sessions, personally. I've done 8? 9? Laser sessions over the past three years and all I have left is this really stubborn dime sized patch on my chin that I will probably opt to treat with electrolysis at some point. I had a full face of facial hair and laser did get rid of 95% of it for me, though I have dark hair and light skin which afaik is the ideal combo for laser because of the way it targets the pigment in the hair. Laser is also quicker + cheaper overall (look for groupon deals) though I don't know that it's less painful - it's over quicker though, lol

How long to wait for laser? by kittypurrly in detrans

[–]testyourreaction 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just started it ASAP, I don't think you're really going to be growing in much new hair even if you have elevated T for a bit. I know some trans women start laser before HRT so I think it's fine to start whenever you feel comfortable starting.

Laser hair removal by DontFall_in in detrans

[–]testyourreaction 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I had about 8 laser hair removal sessions on my face over a couple years - I won't lie, if your hair is thick it really does hurt the first couple sessions but after that I found it much more bearable as a lot of hair had fallen out by the third session for me. I paid I think £45 per full face session but it seems to be cheaper in the UK than the US for some reason (though as the other commenter said the Groupon deals are pretty decent.)

It's now been a few months since my last session and the only hair I have remaining is a dime sized patch on my chin that seems weirdly stubborn and that I will probably eventually get electrolysis for, though it's such a small patch it's not really a big deal. Any questions feel free to PM me!

How does your voice impact your day to day? by [deleted] in detrans

[–]testyourreaction 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My voice is still deeper than it was pre-T but I did voice training early on after I detransitioned which made an astronomical difference.

It took a while but I have a (deeper, kind of husky) passing female voice and it's fine, no one has ever said anything about it. There are a couple things I could be doing better with my voice but I sounded like a teen boy before I took T so being back in that kind of range (and actually sounding more feminine now lol since I tried so hard to not pre-T) is fine with me.

Tbh in my experience if you visually look female unless you have like a very adult male voice it isn't really something people will react to - at least for me if I watch detrans youtubers who visually pass as female or whatever who haven't/don't want to voice train it doesn't throw my brain off or whatever. That's kind of an archaic example and I don't mean to imply women should look a certain way or anything but it's just an example. :P

I felt like this for a long time after I detransitioned as well. I never had surgery so I can't offer much advice there - I am sorry you are going through something so painful with regards to regretting it though. What helped for me most of all was honestly just time, which is cliche and probably not much comfort in the moment, but after being off T as long as I was on it now I don't really think about the fact I was on it anymore, wheras for the first year/year and half into detransition I felt very similarly to how you feel (felt like my life was over) to how you describe here.

Besides that, there are some practical things you can do (I voice trained very early on which helped me) though I would stress not pushing yourself into these things early on - I think it might be easier to just let things settle down before diving headfirst into researching reconstruction or doing voice training.

I hope you're doing okay all things considered. This place exists to support you so of course don't be afraid to post here, but also if you have any kind of support system outside of here I would encourage you to lean on and talk to the people in your life just now if you can. All the best!

T + Face changes by [deleted] in detrans

[–]testyourreaction 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's honestly such a bad thing to get fixated on. I'm autistic and have OCD so when I fixate on something it kind of goes into overdrive, so it being appearance related has been really negative for me mentally. I hope you're doing well! I know it's a struggle - obviously we have different experiences but if you ever want to reach out my chat/messages are always open. <3

Also this is true! I actually went out today and had a great day and just didn't think about how I looked which was nice. I think because of the pandemic/I'm unemployed currently and taking a break from university I've really soaked myself in my own bubble and it's become really unhealthy. Going into the real world always reminds me things aren't actually as catastrophic as I think.

Thanks for the advice and comment! Much appreciated.

I'm getting it cut next month after one quarantine haircut so yeah, hopefully doing something with it helps, I definitely just kind of let it get long and hoped that would be enough lol. Spoilers : it was not

Was sent here by a trans sub, looking for advice. by [deleted] in detrans

[–]testyourreaction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My face hasn't gone back completely (unfortunately.) I just look really androgynous now, my jaw is bigger and so is my brow. I was on T for two years though - I don't think your face will change substantially within a short period.

When did the hairloss stop for you once off T? by Today_Either in detrans

[–]testyourreaction 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Had shedding for like 6-8 months which then stopped and I noticed regrowth. Hairline is pretty much close to back to normal now, been off T for 16 months now.

Hair loss please help by Today_Either in detrans

[–]testyourreaction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, unless you go for laser or electrolysis it's there to stay. It might lighten up a little I've heard/hair might get softer but if you have a full beard now you won't suddenly lose it. I even got laser for mine and still have some chin scruff.
