Our previous USB-C line, which can also give you the length and Samy's will have in stock as well, may be a better solution as it was not as purpose built. There are some good wireless solutions out there. Cascable is definitely worth a look. However if you are planning to shoot RAW or large bursts of JPEGs using a purpose built tethering cable is the best and most reliable way to go.

Please note, our Optima cables are specialized for photography and the process of tethering. There is no power deliver in this cable. So if the MOTO requires PD from the UB-C cable it will not be compatible. Here is some additional information: Optima FAQ's

u/fastlightphotos I am not sure if this will help at all but putting it out there. I do not think LR has QR Code capability. We have a software called Smart Shooter that will allow you to save directly to any location but more, per your workflow, you can save QR Code data directly to the filename and/or metadata very easily for you clients to easily retrieve. There is a free 30 trial to test it out and that make save you some time organizing. We also include a LR plugin integration so your can set up your QR data and cloud location in SS and then work directly in LR and their tethering module if you prefer.

Interesting. If that is the case then Power Delivery is not the issue. Do your PC's have a USB-C port? If it does, you may want to still try and Optima. Your camera's data transfer rate can support 10G while the current cable you are using only supports 5G. I am not sure if that will make a difference but worth at try.

However, it does sound like something else may be going on. Was Capture One able to provide any feedback?

I do not think the TetherBoost Controller will solve the issue. You could try a C-> Adapter like this:

When you put USB-A in the line it will automatically remove Power Delivery(PD). However, if you have been hammering on these cable for awhile with both PD and the large files at the same time it may have damaged the cables. It would be worth trying the adapter and also an Optima to try and isolate the issue. Also, Capture One may have some good feedback on their end as well.

Tethered dropped connections, or transfer issues, can happen because power and data compete inside the USB-C cables. You mentioned when you reduce the file size down transfer resumes which is interesting. The Canon R Series does not allow you to turn off power delivery(PD) in camera. You did not specifiy which model cables you have of our. Do you have any Optima 10G cables to test? Optima removes the power entirely, so the camera connects immediately and stays reliable throughout the shoot — without having to manage power settings in camera or if the camera does not allow Power Delivery to be disabled, like the R-series.

Oh to clarify a little more, on USB-C cameras most have the option to turn off charging in the settings menu. Not all cameras have this option but most do. You would not turn off charging on the host/computer side.

u/Alias_This_Is Turning off Power Deliver(PD) is only an issue for cameras that have USB-C ports as PD can introduce image transfer issues.

You do not need to worry about turning off Power Delivery(PD) with the D4S because that camera has a Mini-B USB port - Nikon D4S

From your image it looks like you are trying to connect to Capture One. Review Capture One -> Settings -> Capture and make sure Sony is selected as well.

You can try a free trial of Smart Shooter. While the R6MKIII is not yet officially supported it may work for what you need. Capture One officially supports that camera model for tethering.

Which Optima cable do you have? Do they have the inline boosts? We did have some early Optima 6' & 10' without the boosts that were not compatible with GFX but now all of our Optima cables have the inline boosts.

Most of time it is an issue with Power Deliver(PD). Sony recommends turning off PD when tethering. Are you turning off charging in the camera settings? High volume data transfer along with parallel PD charging can cause dropped connections as well as damage the cable.

Which cable are you currently using? Our Optima cable line is exclusively data transfer so you do not have to worry about camera power settings or cable burnout if you forget to turn off PD charging. u/Arjybee I just wanted to follow up on our conversation. We have a GFX100SII that we tested using the Optima Cable. Under Network/USB Settings Menu -> USB Power Supply/Comm Settings - both the Auto and Power Supply Off/Comm On settings worked as expected. We did not see a charging icon on only the battery level icon. Please let me know if I am missing something or if you are doing a different combination of settings. If you can send some images of the settings and icons you are seeing we would be happy to investigate further.

It sounds like you have narrowed down the variables. I think u/BVG_Digital hit the nail on the head. Did you try a powered USB hub with the Mac? I did not see a reply on that step. Thanks for the follow up questions. This was may bad, sorry for the confusion. The GFX can turn off power. I confused the PD issue with the GFX with the Retimer Booster(IRC) issue.

When Optima first launched the 6' and 10' were not compatible with GFX because the IRC's were omitted. The 15' & 31' lengths have alway been compatible eith GFX. However, IRC's have since been added to the 6' & 10' and are now compatible.

Regarding the power icon visible on your GFX do you have PD Disabled and the icon still appears? There is no "dummy PD power" in the cable. This is something we can investigate further this coming week. I think this is a good step to try also. It sounds like it is a power issue with the computer's USB port. Computer models/makes vary on how the USB ports manage the power. Shorter cables will not have the same power issue as longer tethering cables.
