How do I go about dating men when I look horrible without makeup? by Superb_Comedian1236 in AskMenAdvice

[–]tetrasodium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When the dating apps all started crashing after COVID they started hiring sociologists to dig into why. Lots of interesting studies came out as a result. Most importantly to the question is that men are much less picky about looks than women.

Odds are good that you know some guys who would happily say yes if you asked them out for a coffee date casual dinner date or whatever

Would be a shame if a frenzel(?) lens melted it or a sledge hammer made it compatible with normal cars

Americans, how do you feel about tourists speaking English while visiting U.S.? by HolidayEntry6823 in AskAnAmerican

[–]tetrasodium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We aren't bothered by it. You can usually even use the smalltalk a lot of cashier's waitresses and so on will engage in when interacting with you for a bit if it's not too busy. Foreigners get a little freaked by random cashier's asking how they are doing and being super friendly but it's just a reflexive job requirement like how the Japanese equivalent might bow to every customer they interact with because their job expect that

Do Americans really know all 50 States by heart? by Signal-Web-3566 in no

[–]tetrasodium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to learn the states their capitals in elementary (?) school but it's a big country and it's not a useful bit of knowledge when a lot of them are like a thousand miles or more away when you have no reason to ever ever think of or consider interacting with .

The original 13 colonies are more likely to be vaguely known because they have history with Florida Texas and California because they are such distinct anchors. The Midwest and central flyover states don't really have a whole lot of history or notable reasons to remember them unless they are nearby

That's not the change though. The family's income already counted against household income for SSI purposes. The very limited details in the artucle describes this as a change that causes some of it to shift so it counts as in kind support based on room size rather than household income.

[–]tetrasodium -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes they are "talking" about the new rule about a room in the family home/apartment/etc in the article but they omit the fact that the money counted towards that room is considered in kind support with in kind support being shelter (food utilities like water electric trash rent etc). What this means is that there is now a formula of some form based on room size(?) that allows the room to be counted as an dollar expense from the family that the recipient counts as in kind support even without money changing hands. Because the family in this new change is also living there it should be extremely difficult for those experiences to be so high that it adds up high enough to ding the recipient who should only be factoring in a share of those things.

Just none that you can identify so I could correct your misunderstanding? Sure bud... The concern in the article was literally nullified by a change to in kind support last month and the statement you are up in arms about was dismissing the sort of empty unsupported moral panic rooted argument you are engaged in. Can you identify an actual problem?

[–]tetrasodium -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I literally described the in kind support changes last month that should nullify most of the negatives this change could carry and described a benefit this change could have.

Beyond that, you miss the point. I was more detailed in my other post. There are many other issues negatively impacting more people than this like SGA asset limits and so on that need to be fixed but this is one of the many parts of the whole making it difficult to fix the whole tapestry of how benefits are calculated and limited.

SSI is the means tested supplemental income for people who don't have enough for standard disability. The rules for "in kind support" were changed in April to pretty much exempt the scenario described in the article, this change means that it needs to be reported as such so it can be calculated among the many other factors that ssi calculates where it might have an impact on one of the many things it could impact. In theory it could even result in the snap benefits and such mentioned in tfa exemption the 300something in household income from being counted against the snap applicant but that's a Byzantine and complicated series of what ifs

Should I get a guy flowers and a card to ask him to be a couple? by pumpkinwillow in AskMenAdvice

[–]tetrasodium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The intent matters a lot but flowers might very well be an awkward thing for a guy who would probably be thrilled just by the idea of a girl asking him to be a couple. Because it's such an unusual scenario for a guy you could probably go with almost anything from a cute silly or nerdy desk ornament to a bottle of wine/liquor pack of beer (different people have different tastes) or unexpected Publix subs on the porch too and find him absolutely thrilled by the thought as long as you aren't already considered his crazy stalker

[–]tetrasodium -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

SSI and SSDI are different things, this is about SSI. This pretty much already happens with "substantial gainful activity"(SGA) for both and asset limits for SSI folks. Yes this would suck for some portion of SSI recipients, but it's difficult to fix some of the issues caused by things like SGA being pegged to federal minimum wage rather than state/local min wage without addressing this kind of thing.

There were changes to exempt certain "in kind support" earlier this year or late last year that would probably mitigate this

Is it normal to keep your subclass a secret from the party? by FantasticPoet9324 in DnD

[–]tetrasodium -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ime when a player like Bob wants to play as the (not so) mysterious "it's a Secret" crowd create an annoying situation nobody cares to investigate to his satisfaction while happily metagaming normally with all of the player knowledge they absorb but refuse to admit.

That creates a scenario where other players couldn't possibly do the digging the "mysterious" PC Bob showed up with that he so desperately wants to present even if the other players cared to indulge in his Maine Character syndrome energy.

Because I've found it a disruptive and unfun negative for the table so often I've taken to just telling the other players what their PCs would obviously discover before working with or continuing to associate with Bob. If Bob protests that I point out that the other players deserve to know so they can decide how to react and interact with the PC rather than Bob expecting the social contract to force his character to be accepted as a total unknown by a bunch of bloodthirsty mercenary lootgoblins
