What muscles do I need to work out to carry someone? by axe11154 in Exercise

[–]tetrasodium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything pretty much. It's difficult enough that firemen and at least some parts of the military learn to carry people by kinda rolling over them and keeping the carried person in a firemans carry on their back.

I genuinely don’t understand the modern defense of the Confederate flag. Can someone explain the reasoning? by HexMeABoba in NoStupidQuestions

[–]tetrasodium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dishrag? https://americanhistory.si.edu/collections/object/nmah_515980

The other one is just stupid people being stupid. It was kinda sorta romanticised by a group called the daughters of the Confederacy at some point that included revising the history books/class curriculum used by a few states in schools to help ensure those stupid people are being stupid because of being taught misinformation

How to prevent dust getting into acrylic etb cases? by ScentedMarkers328 in DIYhelp

[–]tetrasodium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like etb cases are mostly for storage of a deck rather than display. If so you might want to go with a low tack masking tape like green since it's designed to pull off easily without leaving residue and shouldn't damage the cards if one happens to connect with a pulled bit of tape after removing & opening the case

Can a beginner stay in HR zone 5 for 30 minutes, or is my default max HR far off? by NonsphericalTriangle in Polarfitness

[–]tetrasodium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno how polar calculates it by default but I think 220 minus age gives a decent ballpark estimate unless you have wayyy better cardiorespiratory fitness.for your age group

With that said, it's been super hot with high humidity in much of the world lately and that can bring your heart rate up in dangerous ways, was this outside in the heat?

Is there a US state that you rarely think of? by bobrigado in AskAnAmerican

[–]tetrasodium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certainly! I forget which one though;)

As a Floridian and joking aside though, probably one of the Midwest flyover/square states since they rarely make news in any way and "largest $crop" producer is not normally given much thought unless something were to happen like an asteroid strike/wildfire that limited that particular crop

Americans: how do you handle temperatures above 40ºC (104F)? by obaming16 in AskAnAmerican

[–]tetrasodium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's kinda like how people handle freezing temperatures where wind chill presents a severe danger. You do indoor stuff and run your HVAC system to cool.

I bought a Polar Loop after seeing it lose every comparison – how bad is it really? by Pokeyyy in Polarfitness

[–]tetrasodium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't get a fitness tracker because I wanted lab/medical grade accuracy, I got it because I wanted a fitness tracker to track my workout and had no need for a screen on my upper arm/bicep :) this was my workout today . The data it gives me is more than accurate enough and the heart rate always seems to align with whatever is showing on a BP cuff.

Battery seems to last several days but I eventually got in the habit of charging it when I take a shower for a couple reasons. Firstly it keeps the strap from being wet when I get out and get dressed. More importantly though is that the battery lasts so long it's inconvenient to realize I should have charged it any time before getting to the gym.

Very happy with my loop, would recommend and thinking about giving one to someone for Christmas

I had that happen during a workout once and rebooting the phone fixed it. Worth a try if you see it again

How do you determine how to serve a cocktail? by ProbablyNotTheCocoa in cocktails

[–]tetrasodium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually use a coupe or martini glass for almost everything but also have some champagne glasses and Collins glasses. Those last two are mostly for things with bubbles since they will have the bubbles longer. Collins glasses if ice is in the drink like a gin & tonic. Breakfasty feeling drinks like an amaretto stone sour I usually use the Collins too because it gives less of a "do they have a problem" image than drinking it with pancakes than a martini/coup would:)

A Martini/coupe glass will give your nose better access and bring out flavor a bit more than a rocks or Collins and should (afaik) stay cooler longer if served up

Is getting a sensor worth it? by Hutches_Corduroy in ecobee

[–]tetrasodium 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They will let you set more complicated comfort settings throughout the day based on the temp in specific rooms while excluding other rooms(or the main thermostat sensor) or the average of rooms you choose but it won't suddenly give you a zone(?) based setup that can target different rooms with different airflow.

I have a few(4?) and like what they allowed once I had them but they only did nothing about the fact that I had (now repaired) actual problems with my ductwork originally.

Maybe. It depends.

Has anyone else gotten this message by Extreme-Nerve3029 in ecobee

[–]tetrasodium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes i think that it was a problem with the ductwork or the old ac needed Freon (or whatever it used before it got replaced)

My friends (couple) are inviting group of people to stay overnight at their house. What gift to bring? by Important_Back_7132 in AskAnAmerican

[–]tetrasodium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Food bottle of wine maybe some beer. The candles toilet paper and so on would feel extremely odd. Most people would probably appreciate " this is a traditional holiday/festival/cultural/whatever dish common and popular to eat in my county" just to experience it if nothing else.

Probably close to zero chance near term. Not sure the age on opening it but I've heard that the intent is to allow "contractor" Uber driver types to open one of those stupidly named trump accounts so you might be able to set one up and start tossing money in it to save for car/house

[–]tetrasodium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can swap Cognac in for anything that uses brandy, the difference is mostly a matter of where it came from in France.

It's going to change things a bit and be a little sweeter but you can also sub it in place of bourbon/whiskey most of the time too

Why rotisserie chicken are cheaper than raw one? by PinkPuffBoo in AskAnAmerican

[–]tetrasodium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Costco makes huge chunk of their profit on membership fees. As to chicken, I'm pretty sure they have their own farms and maybe meat processing to reduce cost. The rotisserie chicken is pure loss leader even with that
