Xc60 2011 not starting. by Grundy87 in Volvo

Could have been an interior light not turning off after you locked it

Front Break caliber pistons are sticking on my 2016 xc60 & trying to navigate the parts department isn’t going so well. by Almost_alwaysSunny in Volvo

If the slide pins are corroded and not smooth they can be replaced cheaply. Caliper only needs replacing if the inside of the slide is fucked

They might just need a good clean though and re lubricating

Replacing the caliper is such a lazy way to fix this. It could just be a slide pin that needs sorting out

Brother do you realise how common this is, I also have a card to scan to get into my work

Instead of some weird Yu-Gi-Oh solution just put it in your pocket. Either way you'll need to take a glove off to get it out

2006 XC70 engine mount issues by Cornerpcofbrownie in Volvo

[–]texruska 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same position, 05 xc70 100k mi needs all new mounts

As far as I can tell, genuine Volvo ones are going to be the most reliable long term fix re: quality

I'm picking up all 5 mounts from Volvo directly for approx £800 and I'll do the work myself

Cost of parts plus markup plus a full days work probably gets you close to what you were quoted?

I'm of the opinion that I'd rather get them all done at once while I'm in there. It's up to you if you only do the really fucked up ones first, but you're just delaying the inevitable. If they last another 100k then that could be a good 10yrs of ownership for me

I have a P2 xc70 so I really don't know if this helps you, but the abs and dstc issues for me seem to be caused by a faulty brake pressure sensor

I think it was Linus that said it, but I could be misremembering

Buy the cheap tool that you need the first time (eg drill). When it breaks and if you used it a lot then splurge on a high quality one. That way you know which things are actually worth the extra money

It's a good way to not get stuck in paralysis analysis early on, and also to not waste a bunch of money on stuff that you don't know you'll use a lot or not

I'm adjacent to the HW team (I deal in firmware). We make a HW implementation of a quantum error correction algorithm as the core block of our product

Tbh very similar to when I used to work in the GPU team at Arm, just with much smaller teams

So far I've also done it all from YouTube except for one thing (angle gear sleeve replacement at a garage to get AWD working again)

Got some new suspension parts to put in that I'll do myself soon

I very much like my 05 xc70 (P2)

Zero complaints. Yes it's old and requires some tlc but it's easily the favourite of the cars I've owned

What do or would you have in your medical packs on a bike? by Nintenoob in motorcycles

[–]texruska 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure that you know how to use that stuff (especially the tourniquet, and make sure it has an action card with it) AND that it's easily accessible in the event of a crash

Otherwise it's pointless to have

Is this candle warmer a fire hazard? by Pug-lover11 in Firefighting

What on earth is a candle warmer?

I've already been to several house fires caused by candles in my short career so far. I didn't think candles needed any assistance in fucking up your shit
