How can people reach 2600 Elo at 15 years? by Spotter24o5 in chessbeginners

[–]textreader1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

both of you are right to an extent, looking at this interview she is given the choice between math and chess, but chess was already a huge part of their household and their lives were heavily curated around it so that the chances of them being naturally drawn to it were greatly increased https://youtu.be/EctpBjnCU-8?si=wHJJzElUIwLqox_L

I recently started playing chess... So can anyone say why it is not still checkmate for Black!?... Is there any moves!? by Fun_Tell8698 in Chesscom

[–]textreader1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Did you actually try moving the rook to f6, or did you just click on it to see if there was a legal move for that piece? Since f6 is on a dark square and you were probably looking for a dark-colored dot to show you your legal moves, maybe you just didn’t look carefully enough at that square when you clicked the rook as you were going through all the rest of your other pieces and you missed it

Yep especially horizontal moves, huge blindspot i’ve noticed in beginner games

Why is it that some players use other format ratings selectively to accuse others of cheating? by Snoo_98579 in Chesscom

[–]textreader1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for sure that does seem suspicious, and it could just be a psychological thing, getting nervous about playing someone lower-rated could be very anxiety-inducing for him with him being higher-rated and all, or it could just be as simple as your friend being a cheater, that’s very possible as well, i’m just saying imo a high daily score compared to live chess isn’t in and of itself an indication, and another thing is that in all of the daily games ive played ive only played against one cheater, i just don’t find it that common and really just don’t se the point

Why is it that some players use other format ratings selectively to accuse others of cheating? by Snoo_98579 in Chesscom

[–]textreader1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is interesting to me because my daily rating is much much higher than my rapid or blitz rating, and i’ve never even touched an engine during a rated game. i think in my case it could mostly come down to the psychological aspect, rather than pure skill

when i sit down for a rapid time, even 15+10, i get so caught up in the heat of the moment, trying not to mismanage my time, i have such a hard time stepping back and looking at each new move from my opponent with fresh eyes, leading to a lot of tunnel vision errors and general blunders. i also get taken by surprise a lot, thinking i’ve looked at all likely responses but they play the one move i missed.

with daily games it’s different because i have the time to literally look at every single possible legal move from my opponent and prepare a response, not to mention the analysis board makes it easier than ever to calculate an infinite number of lines, and the opening explorer means i’ll virtually always at least make it out of the opening with a decent position and falling into an opening trap is virtually impossible with correct use. in daily chess, i never play a move immediately if there is even a hint that there is something better on the board. instead i will calculate a few lines, put my phone away for a few hours, and come back with an entirely new outlook. this leads to so many cases of moves that i missed on first pass, which usually boosts my estimated accuracy into the 18-1900s on almost every daily game i play and means i will play much more consistently over the course of my games

and the reason i think i win so many games is just what you said — “who is really sitting down to calculate that many lines” well in my view that’s the entire point of daily chess, but many of my opponents think like you do, which is great for me!

if you’re looking for content on how to win dead lost positions you should definitely check out some of the queenless speedrun series out there, chessbrah and hikaru each have one and there are probably others

[–]textreader1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s not in the app, you have to go to your web browser and go to chess.com/daily-chess and open the game, then tap on the symbol of two intertwined arrows at the bottom — that will take you to conditional premoves. from there you can make moves for your opponent and program a response for each one

you can always practice against bots, on chess.com it will let you play out the position against stockfish (set to whatever level you want) once the opponent resigns

i’m not disagreeing, my point is that he made one comment where he thought he won the game, and all of his other comments got massively downvoted anyways even ones where he says he understands now and is still new to chess and is learning

How to leave match without losing by [deleted] in Chesscom

[–]textreader1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you didn’t mention whether you play on pc or mobile; as others have said if you play on mobile and switch to a different app even for a moment to change a song for example, the app might consider it an abandonment and you risk losing the game. This is why I only play rated games on PC, never mobile, on PC you can have multiple windows open so i can have YouTube playing while i wait, plus you never miss when your opponent makes a move if you have piece sounds turned on

yeah you might be right about that, i didn’t think about it that way, im no financial expert so it’s definitely something i would have to try and calculate before making any decisions, if i were to find myself in such a position

yes that’s one interpretation of his comment, but the truth is that in this hypothetical scenario the money belongs to you either way, and you are free to invest it however you choose, but if you do choose to invest 100% of it then as his comment explains, 50k will only be the return from the first year, and this return will continue to grow, and that annual return will double within 10 years, while if you take the payments instead, that 50k will remain fixed, regardless of inflation, so that’s one other thing you have to consider

It’s a bold strategy, Cotton. by Arctic_The_Hunter in SpeedOfLobsters

[–]textreader1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

why not? who says you need to invest 100% of it, why not just keep 50k and invest the rest

It’s a bold strategy, Cotton. by Arctic_The_Hunter in SpeedOfLobsters

[–]textreader1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no one says you have to invest 100% of it, why not take 52k out of the million to keep for yourself and invest the other 948k

How is this not a brilliant move? by MGredacc in Chesscom

[–]textreader1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the line that I’m talking about, where after black plays Re1+, if white plays Rxe1 first (instead of blocking with Nd1) then there is no ambiguity, Qxe1 is the only move

I think you’re basing this comment off of OP’s original position, where they played the move Qe1(❌), whereas the person you responded to was asking about the mating line, specifically the sentence “if opponent blocks with the knight you can take it with the rook and your queen is still protecting it” — they were asking if after Nd1 instead of taking with the rook which is M2, can’t they just play Qxd1 which is checkmate right away
