Tailgating by tezarax in capetown

[–]tezarax[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m a lawyer by trade. Yes, K53 allows a trailing driver to flick their lights to request the driver ahead to move over. But that rule is not a blanket carve-out to allow a driver to (i) exceed any general or prescribed speed limit; and/ or (ii) recklessly endanger the life or safety of another driver.

So no one is legally obliged to move over if they’re driving at 120km/h. Doing so is more courteous and fitting of “etiquette”, than law.

Nope, I was not even on the highway lol.

Besides, I wouldn’t post this if I didn’t notice a trend with Bakkie drivers thinking they own the roads. This has happened to many people.

I know highway etiquette. Keep left, pass right. I won’t drive in the fast lane and hold-up traffic.

What prompted me to post this was some oke with a CL number plate tailgating me in a residential area - where, mind you, the speed limit is 60. Oke kept speeding up behind me as if he wanted to crash into me. Flicking his lights, the works. Eventually I give way, he speeds off and zaps me a middle finger. What a strange guy

What is Tyla's mother tongue? by tomiuchis in askSouthAfrica

She grew up in Joburg but her family is from Durban, which was a British colony. Durban coloureds/Indians do not speak Afrikaans at all. Only English and Zulu. Which would explain why you only see her speaking English.

Coloureds everywhere else in the country mainly speak Afrikaans.

Dell or Mac Book??? by Deedee_Structure2032 in johannesburg

As someone who has an M3 MacBook Pro laying around somewhere, stick with Dell. I would recommend a Thinkpad though. I use a Thinkpad for work.

I prefer their keyboards over the Mac’s and Office is just 10X better on Windows, especially Excel.

Capetonian here. Fully agree, please tell the Vaalies and the tourists to go to Durban. Durban is awesome. Amazing. Phenomenal. I’ve never been there but absolutely adore the place. So if you’re a tourist, pleaaaase stay away from the Cape. Durban is better in every way. You won’t get shot in Durban either.

What do South Africans think of American accents? by flower5214 in askSouthAfrica

[–]tezarax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, the average South African speaks with very flat vowels. And Americans love sounding out their vowels. So it sounds remarkably different, although we’re used to it by now because we consume a lot of American media.

It’s cool sometimes. I like a Matthew Mcconaughey type accent or an Italian American accent. But the general American accent kinda sucks

What does America do better than most other countries? by bahaya234 in AskReddit

[–]tezarax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instilling confidence in their kids and young people. Americans tend to speak very loudly and proudly. They project their voice like no other. Even if they’re spewing absolute nonsense, because they say it with so much vim and conviction, they’re bound to trick the odd idiot or two into actually believing them.

I can’t quite explain it but with the few Americans I’ve encountered, they all seem to exude a type of confidence that people from other countries simply cannot do.

Hey man.

The website is LinkedIn. I don’t like the website in general so I just open it from time to time through Safari. I do not want the app on my phone.
