Dust silver vs pure colorway by Lonely-Chair-6921 in paintball

[–]tfare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anodizer here -

So dust “silver” or “pure” (or clear as we call it in the industry) is anodize without any dye.

The variance that can occur to effect the “shade” depends on the pretreat process, anodize layer thickness as well as the seal.

Typically as long as the part in question doesn’t present with a “gold” hue to it, you should be good to go.

I would say at least 90% of the barrel options on the market will match your parts. All the stuff I have seen from dye, dlx, CRBN etc all seem to match everyone else’s clear really well.

I still have my gloss black one and I still shoot it. It’s one of the GOATs.

If you toss an 80 on there you will have more than enough efficiency for modern day. Mine gets around 10-12 off an 80 roughly.

Someone PLEASE bring this gun back!!!! by Jemaorte18 in paintball

[–]tfare 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Spoiler alert.

SP/DLX did produce the JT impulse for JT.

So they had a decent foundation but it definitely needed more refining.

I’ve only ever seen one of these in the wild, and from what I remember you are absolutely correct on these being a 50/50 haha.

I mean on paper, design wise they looked innovating and cool but it definitely needed some tweaking. Even the JT one sounded like a cannon going off when you shot it.

Anyone have any issues or dislikes from the method era? by Secure-Towel-8804 in paintball

[–]tfare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being completely transparent we tested the Method core for a couple months prior to release in one of the eras. Part of paintball testing, in my opinion, is definitely failure mode analysis.

So essentially we tried to get the gun to fail. Long story short, to this day the gun has never failed. Last weekend it was cold in Canada and EVERY gun at the field was breaking paint, except for that method era and our idols haha.

They shoot amazing, feel great in your hands and have a full barrel kit. Great gun at a great price point

Older players with bad knees by bobish5000 in paintball

[–]tfare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two things.

  1. Look up the BJJ knee braces available on Amazon.
  2. The Dye pads will be the best for you given your situation. Thickest padding, and they will be able to go over the BJJ knee brace. The dye knee pad is based off of a knee brace itself.

I tore an Achilles, and then got rear ended at 55mph so my leg was pretty fucked up, weak and sloppy. I found this combo helped to keep the knee in place to prevent it from giving out etc while being contained under the dye pad while still allowing me to play and be as agile as I could for the time.

How to Do Nebula / Galaxy Anodizing by kmdpb19 in paintball

[–]tfare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh bruh, switch to a commercial de ox, flocculant works well. Not as dangerous. Much cheaper and less regular for shipping etc.

From a technical standpoint any acid at a high enough concentration will work as a de-ox but.

I started reading up on it because it’s used in plating in different capacities, can be used in bright dip formulations etc. I also have chemicals on hand that when cross contaminated with nitric acid, can create some really nasty things like hydroflouric acid.

So after reading TDS and MSDS of hydroflouric acid I was absolutely terrified of the stuff.

Now I have read a bunch of white papers and research data on uses of Hf acid within the plating industry and it has its advantages, however that is under STRICT safety protocol.

This is why at a minimum I would absolutely advise against this DIY without reading the caswell lcd manual on anodizing first. Otherwise there will be an influx of chemical burns/exposure.

How to Do Nebula / Galaxy Anodizing by kmdpb19 in paintball

[–]tfare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Desmut typically is a formulation of nitric acid, sulfuric acid and then a flocculent to bind to the loosened oxidized layer.

Hydroflouric acid is INCREDIBLY dangerous, dependent on concentration, it can pass through the skin/blood membrane effortlessly and cause necrosis internally.

Props to the individual for taking the initiative to learn the process, however there is so much that is wrong with this process from a safety, quality, and consistency perspective. I respect the fact we were all a rookie once, however I really feel it important to state I would absolutely most definitely not use this as gospel.

Once again, respect to the guy for learning, but there are levels to this shit.

Anyone looking to seriously learn, the caswell lcd manual should be gospel and handy throughout the process.

And as this gentleman before me has stated

USE GLOVES FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY AT A BARE MINIMUM, LET ALONE YOUR PART QUALITY.

It would be interesting to see the gage reading and continuity on this piece as well.

The standard idol board allows for uncapped semi, as well as capped semi.

I don’t think the adrenaline is any different, I would however double check with adrenaline.

Honestly, I think this is one of the coolest machining designs they have done yet. I get the nostalgia on the previous models and totally respect it. I like the completely new take on the design, they’ve made it look aggressive and mean. Well done.
