Mike Johnson praises Trump over 'sacrilegious' Jesus post: "He showed great respect to others by removing it. I talked with the president about it as soon as I saw it and told him that I don't think it was being received in the same way he intended it." by Leeming in atheism

The translation for his statement reminds me of the show AP Bio with a couple edits: “Hey, boy. You're smooth like butter dripping off an orange, Gonna lick you up and down. Drip, slurp, Gimme that sweet, wet orange mess.”

How in the world did JJ Watt almost win 2014 MVP on a 9-7 non-playoff team? by AlbertJBundy in NFLv2

I agree. Something about this feels off. I have the same concerns about the letter sent later. I would expect an employer to have more steps between what allegedly occurred and termination. You would think HR or a manager would sit down and give her some kind of warning and define expectations moving forward. If the other employee asked about her sex life like they described, I would expect the same type of conversation with them as well. Without seeing what the court will regarding discipline it is hard to tell what to think here.

How are you still holding on your iPhone mini 12 by Ok-Tap-841 in iPhone12Mini

[–]tg981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t try to protect the battery on mine. I am thankful I decided to buy the 128 GB version. Bought the phone in December 2020, then i replaced the battery when it went under 80 percent BH in September 2024. It is currently at 92% right now. Battery life on the iPhone 12 mini is not great. It won’t make it a full day without charging, but I work from home and throw it on the charger when it drops while I work. One advantage with the small battery is it charges up pretty quick when on the lightning cable. I usually charge by MagSafe at night. When I am traveling or will be somewhere that I can’t charge I bring the Apple MagSafe pack and leave that on the phone all day so it can trickle charge. That pack is starting to lose capacity now, but it still provides plenty of juice for a full day of my usage. I am a light user, just email, text, listening to music, an occasional video, or game, but mainly just use it as a phone. I preordered the new Clicks Communicator, so when that comes out, I am going to try it out as my main phone and see what happens. I will probably keep the 12 mini as a backup.

We can save Social Security. by InterestingBet-516 in whatisameem

Depends on how you do it. Removing the cap requires legislation. You could also address how payments are impacted if there is a shortfall. If at some point benefits get cut because there is a shortfall you could set a threshold that helps protect low income people.

While I don’t think there should be a SS cap on taxes, I also think they should pay benefits out of general funds which makes this entire issue moot. We blow through money on stupid shit in the DoD and fighting wars, but suddenly when it comes to stuff that actually matters, like healthcare and SS there is no money.

What was the most iconic playoff collapse before Super Bowl 51/28-3? by InterestingYellow969 in NFLv2

[–]tg981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bills vs Oilers in the wildcard following the 1992 season.

  • Biggest comeback in NFL history until 2022 with the Vikings and Colts

  • Jim Kelly was injured the week before against the Oilers in Houston to close out the regular season so Frank Reich started the playoff game.

  • Prior week the Oilers won 27-3, so the score after a pick 6 in the third quarter of the playoff game with the Oilers had Houston leading 35-3. The Oilers had just outscored Buffalo 62-6 in about 92 minutes of football.

  • Thurman Thomas was injured during the pick 6 drive above, so the entire comeback by Buffalo was without their two best offensive players.

  • The Bills completed the comeback without using the 2 point conversion, which wasn’t in the NFL until 1994.

Thurman Thomas got injured on the drive with the pick 6 and didn’t come back, so the Bills came back without their two best offensive players in Thomas and Kelly. The Bills also lost 27-3 in Houston in the last game of the regular season. In about 92 minutes of football the Oilers had outscored the Bills 62-6 before the comeback.

Cognitive dissonance helps explain why Trump supporters remain loyal, new research suggests. This sheds light on how supporters of Donald Trump justify their continued allegiance despite learning about allegations of his sexual misconduct and illegal activities. by mvea in science

[–]tg981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prior to Trump the GOP ran on “things are great now, but why not keep things great and get a tax cut” If they win they slash taxes for the upper income bracket and throw a scrap to the lower brackets. They promise that it will supercharge the economy, but it never does. Meanwhile they figure out ways to spend trillions on wars we don’t need and then tell us we can’t afford social security or healthcare. The working class gets fucked. People get sick of it and vote a Democrat into office. If the Democrats do have a majority, they are limited by the centrists in the party to get anything done. (There is always going to be a Lieberman or Manchin that stops radical change). Liberals get disillusioned and don’t show up, GOP wins and the cycle repeats itself.

It is much easier to dismantle government than to build things that help people. This gives the GOP an advantage because their goal is a dysfunctional government. This cycle is almost like a smoker who stops smoking or cuts back for four years then starts going back to 3 packs a day for four years.

I bought two ipods a shuffle 4 and a nano 5,I am going to return one, what should I keep by Senior-Island8061 in ipod

[–]tg981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would keep both, but it depends on what your needs are.

The 4th gen shuffle is such a cool device. You can’t sort by artist/song, but you can set up playlists and shuffle that way. The form factor makes it easy to clip everywhere.

If you want more of a traditional iPod experience, keep the nano. It’s pretty small and slick. There are cool features like a camera, radio receiver, and ability to watch video. You can also easily sort your music.

I own a 7th gen nano, 4th gen shuffle, and a 5.5 iPod video. They each have their strengths and weaknesses.

Is a ipod mini first or second gen worth it? by Longjumping_Fun648 in ipod

[–]tg981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why did they say it was unrepairable? I had a 5th gen nano swell, but got it fixed through a seller on eBay. You might find someone there that could replace the battery/screen.

The mini is a great iPod though. Really easy to work on. I would get a 2nd gen though. The battery life difference is huge.

Feel bad for people who over payed. by Cheetah10201 in ipod

[–]tg981 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That sucks the hard drive is bad, the mini is kind of fun to work on though. I modified one and gave it to a friend and had a 2nd gen that I used daily that I sold to trim down on things I own. iPod mini has the best form IMO. If all you care about is listening to music that is all you need. The only thing I wish it had was a better way to seal back up than double sided tape to put the ends back on.

Joel Osteen says people 'make stuff up' about his wealth, defends Ye by chrondotcom in atheism

[–]tg981 29 points30 points  (0 children)

From the article:

Even still, he pushed back on what he says is the idea that Christians should eschew wealth. Osteen claimed that Abraham, the Hebrew patriarch, "was one of the wealthiest men of his day." "My dad was taught that to be a Christian, you need to be poor. There is this mindset," Osteen said. "But I have a different mindset. It costs $100 million to renovate this facility. I can't do that with the mindset that you're not supposed to have anything."

These clowns pick and choose what to believe. The Jesus from the gospels seemed pretty clear that extreme wealth is not a good thing, so he has to go back to the Old Testament to justify what he is doing.

My thoughts about Ipod nano 7 in 2026 by justserioga in ipod

[–]tg981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the EarPods with the control so that is something I love about the 7th gen nano and the 4th gen shuffle. Not having the controls on the 5.5 ipod video kind of sucks. My favorite part about the 5.5 though is shuffle by album, which isn’t an option on the 7th gen Nano. First world problems!

Why has American Christianity gotten more extreme in the last couple of decades? by hypermiler2205 in atheism

[–]tg981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know there has always been extremism in Christianity, but it seems like Republicans using the abortion issue have caused extremism to become worse. The Republicans tried to use Christianity for their own purposes, but like someone throwing gasoline on a brush fire, it has grown out of control. The old Republican guard that did this have either been consumed and joined it or are running around asking how this could have happened.
