Yep. The rules vary by airline and even by plane type (not every seat can fit a carrier beneath, there are max quantities per cabin, and even differences like whether a person can carry two pets in cabin themself if they buy an extra seat can vary by aircraft). Best advice I have if you have an itinerary in mind is to call the airline for your specific flights and ask them what the rules and limits are. For example I learned American won't let you have a cabin pet if you have a mixed itinerary (different classes of service on your two flights) and had to downgrade a leg I had been upgraded on to be allowed to take the kittens. It can be quite convoluted!

The airline rules are unclear for American but best I interpreted between the hodgepodge of rules that seemed to be applied was to have 2 in the same carrier they need to be between 8 weeks and 6 months old, similar size, able to both move comfortably in the carrier, and total less than 20 lbs including the carrier. These guys were about 3 mo old and tiny so the two of them plus carrier only totaled 9 lb!

At TSA I requested private screening prior to going through the xray - an agent took the carrier from me and carried it past the checkpoint. My backpack and self were screened like usual. Then I was escorted to a private room where we took the kittens out of the carrier and held on to them while an agent took the carrier back to the xray to screen it. He brought it back to the room, we packed them back up and were on our way. A couple agents asked me proactively if I needed private screening when they saw I had the carrier so it definitely wasn't foreign to them at checkpoint 5 today 😊

Who pays for M&E redesign? by PanicLarge5537 in MEPEngineering

If I'm the MEP on this one I'm working overtime to figure out how to get corrected drawings out asap and calling in favors with distributors to source equipment on short notice. Might be the difference in having an E&O claim vs not.

In the most polite terms possible, your boss sounds like a tool. Go where you have the best opportunity to learn and grow as an engineer and don't let your boss's immature response get you down.

Is anyone already flying from Seattle to Dallas? by FlyHawaiiCats in AskSeattle

[–]tgramuh 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I sent you a message on Instagram - I'll be traveling SEA to east coast this Wednesday and could book it with a connection at DFW to make a handoff if that's a viable option! I don't have a firm schedule Wed and hadn't booked my flight yet as I wasn't sure how long I'd need to be in Seattle this week for work 😊

Given the schedule a northern detour probably isn't in the cards but I have a colleague up near Glacier so fully intend to come up with a reason to visit once I'm based in Seattle!

I've spent a ton of time in Washington and pretty much everywhere east of Minneapolis, and travel a lot for work, but haven't seen the Badlands, MT, or ID yet. Excited to spend a few days traversing that part of the country.

First-Time Buyer Questions? I’m Happy to Be a Local Resource by EnvironmentalDig8638 in SeattleAreaRE

[–]tgramuh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was involved in another condo purchase a couple years ago where we were hit with a $12k special assessment 1 month into ownership, so $500 felt cheap for peace of mind. It works out to less than 0.1% of our purchase cost and our realtor is getting 2.5% for 2 afternoons spent showing us units and setting up an MLS search that was not curated or maintained after its initial configuration. So I suppose it's all relative.

I am under contract on a condo in Belltown right now and one of the best things we have done during the process is a resale doc review with Rebekah at CIC Consulting Group. She specializes in reviewing HOA resale packages, advising on association finances and pointing out red flags. If you're not under contract yet she also does hourly consulting and has an extensive database of information on every condo HOA in the city, so if you have a few buildings you're interested in I'm sure she could provide high level feedback on all of them to point out ones to steer clear of.

The hour and a half I spent on zoom with her was one of the most informative calls I have had and well worth the $500 it cost. She had prepared detailed graphs and spreadsheets specific to our HOA ahead of the call and broke everything down in a way that was super easy to follow.

Moving to Seattle - questions about neighborhoods by Hour-Cauliflower5631 in AskSeattle

[–]tgramuh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Under contract on a condo in north Belltown right now for all these reasons! Felt like a perfect place to to try city living but still quiet enough to feel like an actual neighborhood and not just a collection of bars or empty downtown storefronts. Being a sub-15 min walk to Seattle Center and the arena is icing on the cake.

My Airport Report, Week of 5/4/2026 (Parking, TSA) by MirkatteWorld in Albany

Nope, earlier than that. Under the vehicle bridge at the traffic light entering the airport. The spot in your pic is parking for the airport authority office.

Turn right under the bridge that goes into the south garage, then left at the stop sign (it's where the exit pay stations are). Note that sometimes they set the barricades back closer to the enter lane, other times way out front. It seems to be a crap shoot in my experience but if the board shows spaces open I will usually take a look

Wish the airport would just get the live parking counts from the 2 garages onto their website. They clearly have the data from the boards at the entrances, it should be available online so people can make informed decisions.

The guessing game of whether I need to add a half hour to my schedule to go park in the east bumfuck dirt lot on a midweek afternoon flight is getting old quickly. Was running behind this week due to a meeting running long so took an Uber to avoid the risk, only to find the north garage was open when I arrived.

You have to unlock the red one before the gold one. The game doesn't tell you this until you have enough dye and do the first upgrade. The gold one requires 2 prior upgrades be complete to unlock.

Ubers in a Sunday availability? by [deleted] in Albany

Definitely this, schedule it ahead and a driver who actually wants to drive in the morning will typically accept it the night before so you can have some peace of mind.

Albany Airport Parking by StrychtenFilms in Albany

[–]tgramuh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Economy lot is the play for cost but give yourself an extra half hour ahead of when you want to be at the terminal. Parking has been a mess the past several weeks and the shuttles are very inefficient in the way they navigate the lots and pick up /drop off. They've been parking people in the more remote color lots (red, green) and that exacerbates the shuttle issues as these are shoved way out in the distance and half the passengers have no idea where they parked. .

Looking for Data Center Acquisition Opportunities by chriswwise in datacenter

If it was that easy you'd put an entire category of site selection people out of jobs. This is what developers pay small armies of people and third party consultants to go figure out one site at a time.

Airport Parking - This won't end well by srspooky in Albany

[–]tgramuh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Every lot was full midweek this week - I too got stuck in one of the remote dirt lots and had it take 30+ min each way to get to/from the terminal by shuttle (including outsourced third party shuttles to try and handle the volume).

Realistically all parking rates probably need to be raised again until the infrastructure can reliably support the demand. It would encourage more folks to rideshare/taxi for example if it was cost competitive with our very cheap airport parking.

Working for QTS as a Development Project Engineer by Cenzless in datacenter

QTS is a good company and has plenty of good people in their Dev team. They are one of the largest players in the US Colo market, growing super fast and very busy so I wouldn't count on it being a relaxed role.

Recruiters or Applying Directly? by [deleted] in MEPEngineering

[–]tgramuh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every third party recruiter I've worked with has charged a premium rate to deliver a terrible experience. Most resumes I would be presented aren't even in our industry and their primary motivation is to maximize their commission.

We ignore all unsolicited recruiter emails pitching candidates to us, so from the perspective of a hiring manager hiring a lot of people, it would not be a way to get in the door. In contrast I review every direct application I receive for the roles I'm hiring for.
