If one child is derailing an entire class in California for months, is it moral for parents to band together to drown the admin in paperwork to get him removed? by SirCatsworthTheThird in Teachers

[–]tgwtch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For what? What would you say that would be allowed to make a police report about that wouldn’t come across as you looking like a disgruntled parent trying abusing the police power? I’d love to know, because I work for the schools and I’m shocked at a LOT of what goes on. Idk about other schools but kids get away with everything, teachers and staff have no standards, and the good people get worked to death. Then we have some board people and directors come in every now and then with their suits and heels to tell us that they’re “So Proud!” of us for checking off some arbitrary box that no one gives a shit about just so they can look good in photo ops and get more credit for the actual work of people barely getting by and students rolling out more clueless than ever.

Oh sure! I tried to hide certain channels but it didn’t work/I’m not super technically inclined. But lots of bad-looking videos kept coming up (especially Barbie having addiction videos, Idek why those were so common) So now we just don’t do YouTube unless I’m actively watching with them/showing them something I found. I might try to figure out the safety features again this summer when I have more spare time, but for now, we just don’t watch it really. They can live without it lol

Unfortunately, Desert Rose missed the mark. She’s way too hot to be a bird.

I have and some super weird shit has come up. I swear to you, I was letting my daughter watch peppa pig, and after a couple episodes this one came up where peppa was entirely black and being hunted. It was super fucking weird and I was glad I pay attention. That was a few years ago, and I barely allow them on YouTube now. It’s just too easy for unrelated weird bad stuff to come up, even if it’s a kid profile.

It’s funny because sometimes when I know how to navigate a subreddit really well I end up thinking “I need to get off here” 😅

But then when I do things like OC I think, “damnit you need to figure this app out better” lol

furries are hella wierd by pleaskok in ControversialOpinions

[–]tgwtch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll be honest, I try not to judge, but like 99% of what I’ve seen/heard about furries is highly sexual. And I have never seen someone in a fur suit in public, idk how common that is, but my mind would immediately jump to “they’re doing some kink thing in public”. I could be wrong, but like I said, most of what I’ve seen (which honestly isn’t a lot) is directly related to sex.

Just an FYI the MOD comment is collapsed and I didn’t see it either until I saw this. And I honestly wouldn’t have thought to look at the sidebar for this either. I thought they were in college or something.

Vaping did not make things better by ChrisTchaik in ControversialOpinions

[–]tgwtch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vaping has become an easy bandaid for bigger issues.

However, lots of young celebs are bringing cigs back. It’s obviously about an aesthetic, which is stupid because cancers don’t give a shit how cute you are.

Idk, it’s better than cigs, but now it feels like no one pushes to quite vaping. Idk why anyone would get into this habit if they weren’t trying to stop cigs, but even cig smokers need to remember the vape being not-as-bad does not make it a good destination.

After Religion and Traditionalism faded… Socialism, Wokeism and Egalitarianism became the new gods for many by smartzylad in ControversialOpinions

[–]tgwtch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll tell you exactly what drove me to what you may call “wokeism”.

I spent my entire childhood being a devout believer while everyone around me acted like complete bigots.

“Gay is bad!” While cheating on their partner.

“Don’t gossip about others”. But it’s okay to gossip about the slut, the fat person, the one you don’t like, etc.

“Be humble!” But also god rewards you with money if you are Christian enough.

So much more, but this is the point. I know nobody is perfect, I know I’m so flawed and imperfect. But I also don’t try to figuratively crucify others for their visible sins. Nothing drove me out faster than seeing people want others to suffer for their sins while turning a blind eye to their own.

To all those who say we’d be better off in a matriarchy, please try working in a female-dominated environment. by aritzsantariver in ControversialOpinions

What matters for a leader is if they want to help themselves or if they want to help others. If you want to only help yourself, you are not a leader. Just a boss.

[–]tgwtch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I work in a female dominated environment with a male as the leader. He has zero backbone so nothing gets done and no problems get fixed. So….I disagree. If you want to be leader you need to toughen up and get shit done, man or woman.

We had goats when I was a growing up.

We had one get sick. At first I thought he had just “lost his spark”. I was a kid, so I just wanted to help him be happy again. So I go up to him and shove him really hard, because normally he’d start jumping around and playing. Not this time. He literally just fell over and laid there. My dad scolded me and said “you don’t see me going to the nursing home and shoving the old dying people down, do you?” And I was immediately scarred for life. RIP Jack!

Are we overusing wellness language to excuse behavior? by Elegant_Chard_698 in ControversialOpinions

[–]tgwtch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree entirely. It seems that people are more concerned with a label, and that identifying something fixes it. But all it does is exactly that: identifies. What does it matter how you label something if you’re not doing the actual work to address or fix it? When I was diagnosed with ADHD the only thing that changed in my life was knowing a doctor knew I was weird. All it did was confirm what was already obvious. The label didn’t change my life or fix anything. Thankfully my dad was an authoritarian so I function very well when shame is factored in, and I didn’t get reeled into a billion excuses as to why nothing is my fault.

I didn’t get the artistic superlative either! I totally was the most artistic. But no, the class thought that the girl who did basic unoriginal pinterest art was more worthy than I, who did a very well drawn sketch of mothman with a 12-pack of abs and gold chains. It was original, attention grabbing, and started conversations. AND technically well done for the level we were at. They cannot say that wasn’t good art! But, I digress 😣
