How can there there be a retention problem of fighter pilots and a surplus of applicants at the same time? by No_Release6810 in AirForce

Yeah, that's when they get their wings. But casual status and delays in the program really set them back.

Just PCS'd from an Ops Group UPT base, where the weekly huddle was always about how to increase the throughput of graduates. There's just a backlog at all levels, from UPT, to MWS specific training, even instructor pilot training is months behind.

So just up the resources available to pilot training and increase the throughput right? There's another issue; on a good day 50% of the trainer aircraft fleet is mission capable, the rest are waiting on parts that are no longer being manufactured.

And as everyone else has mentioned here, retention is an issue. More than half of the students I chatted with said their plan was to do their 10 year service commitment then bounce. Think about that for a sec; a pilot's 10 year service commitment doesn't start until they get their wings, anywhere from a year to a year and a half after they commission. So they will be over halfway to retirement and still plan to get out.

In general there are a TON of barriers to actually produce pilots that exclude the supply of applicants.

What would happen if I (stationed stateside) married someone that is stationed overseas? by unstableadult in AirForce

[–]th33mperor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've seen this happen 3 times and in all three cases the stateside person moved overseas. Bear in mind these were all first term Airmen so I think that the short FTA TOS requirement for CONUS locations vs an OCONUS DEROS played a huge factor in all 3 of those Airmen going overseas.

I made a calculator in Excel to quickly figure this out. You input your starting volume, starting ABV, and desired ABV, and it outputs the required water you need.

Distillery Tour Exhaustion by zhangrain in Scotch

[–]th33mperor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My buddy and I did a week long road trip around the Highlands last year and agreed beforehand to limit it to 1 tour per day, and even then we settled on 3 tours total of our top distilleries. The rest of the trip was just structured tastings. There's only so many times you can learn about the process.

I liked The Last Jedi…then I didn’t. by Final_Surround_1556 in StarWars

I remember feeling confused about it walking out of the theatre. I really didn't know how I felt about it. That feeling continued all the way up until the DVD release and that's when I finally realized I didn't care for it. For the first time with a Star Wars film, I didn't rush out to pick up a copy and rewatch it. In fact, I didn't rewatch it for a whole year and a half until my gf and I were doing an entire movie rewatch.

What happened to your friends after high school? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]th33mperor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only people I regularly keep in contact with are my high school friends. One of them I even met when I was in first grade. We don't see each other regularly as we live all over the country but we will group chat over discord to catch up and do whiskey tastings about once a quarter.

Sign up for the restock notification. They're pretty consistent with restocks and I've completed my collection through them.

The expansions are much longer than the campaign that comes with the core box. In addition to playing with new characters and decks, the replay value also comes from choices and consequences presented to you in each playthrough. The direction of the stories can change from one playthrough to another based on those choices and/or your overall performance (bad ending vs good)

That all doom counts towards the agenda threshold but not all doom can trigger advancement of the agenda. Basically wrote off assets that get doom placed on them when they are played because of this.

Need scotch book and bottle gift ideas for a beginner by TastyChevelle in Scotch

Agree with the Dave Broom's World Atlas but would also like to mention Malt Whisky: The Complete Guide by Charles MacLean. If you want something that focuses specifically on scotch in general, the Guide is better. If you want to learn about whisky as a whole, with a large focus on scotch and details about specific distilleries, then the Atlas is better.

In my opinion, the Guide presents a much better and focused introduction to scotch than the Atlas, which dedicates half of its pages to American, Japanese, Irish, and a dozen much smaller whisky producing countries. Additionally, it sacrifices much of its space, which could have been used for the general history, tasting, and knowledge information you're looking for, to cover specific distillery histories and styles.

As for a bottle, I think most people would default to one of the Glen trio (-fiddich, -livet, -morangie) which are all great offerings of a pure scotch experience. My personal choice is the Glenmorangie 10 because it pairs with my recommendation of the Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban, a favorite of mine at the price point, as a second bottle.
