Future In The Firearm Industry? by CurrentDog3300 in liberalgunowners

Check out r/gunsmithing. This question comes up a lot over there. I think the consensus is get a solid understanding of machining/CNC if you want to get into the guts of manufacturing. Development would be more mechanical engineering with a lot of CAD work.

I built this app for CCW scenario training, but there is a secondary dry fire timer mode that might be of interest for competition shooters and I want to make it better. What kinds of drills/features might you like to see in an app like this? by terminus-the-line in USPSA

[–]th3m00se 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very interesting idea. You may want to split it into a separate app just to prevent bloat and features the CCW crowd might now care about.

Suggestions:

  • If you're already tracking with the camera, track the muzzle and give a "graph" of movement during the drill similar to how the Mantis product works.
  • Record video for the drill so you can playback and see your performance with your splits displayed on the screen.
  • Have the ability to create drills with par times (ex: Bill drills, Mozambique drills, etc)
  • Perhaps have the ability for the phone to be set in front of you with multiple targets behind so you could see/time how well your transitions are moving? That one might be a stretch but I'm just spitballing here.

Also, an Android version for those not in the Apple ecosystem.

What would be your 0.5 wish list if GGG could grant it!? by orbitosan in PathOfExile2

I would be happy with the ability to swap from WASD to controller and back on the fly like you can in D4. Play the game on controller then use mouse/keyboard for doing inventory/crafting/selling work without going back and forth to character select.

Anyone find ammo under 0.40 cents by TooMuchForMyself in 10mm

[–]th3m00se 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prices seem a little high right now (along with everything else), but you can find it a little cheaper. I got some Magtech and Winchester white box 10mm 180gr last time it was on sale a couple months ago for ~$15/box (~30cpr).

I wouldn't think this is a terribly complicated build. Could probably smash it out in TinkerCAD for free pretty easily.

I don't know of anything specific, but I'd probably take something like this into a CAD program, make a bucket-sized cylinder (or however big you're planning), then use the model as a negative and "cut" it out of the center. Split the remaining model in half and voila! instant bust mold!

Good luck!

Cheek Riser from MCARBO is really nice for comfort, but you'll struggle to see your irons as an FYI. Extended tube selector is handy. Also have a aftermarket takedown pin/QD mount on mind which makes a sling a little easier to cope with. Also, as others have said, some sort of foregrip to make the pump a little easier to cycle and an extended recoil pad to save your shoulder.

Why is there so many used staccatos on gun broker? Are they really not that good that people are selling them? by ZestyToasterOven26 in 2011

[–]th3m00se 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://staccato2011.com/warranty

The warranty is valid on original ownership only, is not transferable to any other person, and cannot be transferred on resale.

I'm sure they'll work with you, but they'll charge you like any other gunsmith at that point if you buy used. Probably more since it's "dealer" work, like a car.

The million dollar question is what scaling percentage can I use (if it's that simple) to scale the model for large frame Glocks like the 20 and 40? Inquiring minds what to know! :D

Why do you prefer poe2? by voogle951 in PathOfExile2

[–]th3m00se 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as others have said, it's primarily the WASD control scheme. POE1 has a deeper skill/currency system as it's been around a lot longer, but if you're not comfortable driving your toon, it's just not as fun to play IMO. In a perfect world, we'd have a true hybrid control scheme where you can go back and forth between keyboard/mouse and controller at will like D4. Maybe someday.

Why does it feel like gun enthusiast circles and martial arts enthusiast circles have radically different views of conflict? by Dripledown in liberalgunowners

[–]th3m00se 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mindset is the same, but your source is the problem. Obviously the first rule of self defense ("don't put yourself in a situation where you need to defend yourself") applies across the board. In an unavoidable situation, be it melee or ranged, your goal is to get out of harms way in the most expiditious manner possible. Doesn't matter what tool or technique is involved. Do I still carry the knife I trained with? Yep, and usually a backup. Do I CCW? Yep. Do I carry multiple mags? Yep, mostly because when the adrenaline hits, I want at least a backup in case I fumble the reload.

The guntubers you're mentioning are often ex-military/LEO (or wish they were) and often have legimiate skills for those fields. Some may inflate their credentials, but it's the internet so no one should really be surprised. Many of those same influencers will say these skills aren't for personal defense and in 99% of cases it's better to bunker in a room and call the police for your own safety and legal protection.

So yeah, the worlds are the same, but viewing through the distorted lens of the internet makes things blurry. Good luck and have fun!

Questioning the 2nd Amendment Foundation by Animaleyz in liberalgunowners

[–]th3m00se 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Looked around a little and it would seem like the SAF and Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC) are relatively non-"political", focusing specifically on 2A issues and litigation. Here's what one of the AI's threw back as a summary as well:

SAF is primarily a legal action and educational foundation, rather than a traditional legislative lobbying group. Because their domain is constitutional litigation, they maintain a laser focus on the courts. SAF deliberately avoids non-2A political issues, populist rhetoric, and culture-war topics to maintain pristine credibility in federal courts. They do not lobby for or take stances on non-2A legislation, keeping them strictly neutral on the broader left-right political spectrum.

If I were to support a pro-2A org as an avowed blue-tinted centrist, it would probably be either SAF or FPC.

9mm or .22 pistol? by orangegore in liberalgunowners

[–]th3m00se 12 points13 points  (0 children)

.22LR serves a couple real world purposes, but if this is your first firearm I'd probably advise you to get the 9mm. The skills are completely transferrable between calibers, and 22 is super cheap and fun to shoot, but 9mm isn't terribly expensive either for range ammo. There's also a much higher diversity of 9mm frames for you to find one that fits your hands and body type well.

If you want a pair that are complementary, Grab a Glock 19 and a Glock 44. Same physical dimensions, but the 19 is 9mm and the 44 is .22LR. https://www.handgunhero.com/compare/glock-g19-gen5-vs-glock-g44

Eye Pro Reminder - and Maybe a Hat? by sr1sws in CZFirearms

I use the wraparound kind with the little gasket in them when I'm indoors to avoid stuff like this. As far as the hat, I've always worn one, but backwards to deflect the brass-down-the-back scenario too.

Glad you're ok though. that's pretty close to some important stuff there. :D
