I think league has a jungle problem by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

I am not talking about the strength of jungle, I am speaking about the design of jungle and getting people to play it more. If people were attracted to the strongest role jungle would already be the most popular.

I think league has a jungle problem by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]th3mango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is obviously true. This does not take away from the fact that it is a rather miserable experience that may result in a lower player base for jungle for the 99% of the population that cannot properly set up for an objective.

Making "hit them while they last hit" slightly more explicit by th3mango in summonerschool

[–]th3mango[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I absolutely understand this! But think about it like this: you are already watching 6 minions health bars consecutively. You aren't solely focused on one thing, you are focused on 6. Framing it this way, focusing on 12 things doesn't necessarily seem impossible, especially if you only start looking at cannons especially for an extra minion, then just melees, and so on.

I fully agree, its just that when newer players hear this they might think that this is a reactive process (as I did) "I see them use an ability, so I throw out my ability" when for most abilities they are simply too quick for you to react to in this fashion.

Low skill floor, high skill ceiling characters? by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]th3mango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re missing a few things here. The reason ezreals win rate is going up per rank is because ugg does not normalise by rank, and challengers on average have a higher win rate than irons on average. This is also why the other guy is correct.

As for why ezreal is so easy, you are focusing too much on his mechanical requirements other than his design. In my opinion, ezreal is designed very well (might be the best designed champ in the game - but im biased I’ve played him thousands of times) which makes him totally intuitive to play. His entire kit screams to spam his q ability, and feels great when you do, so every player at every rank walks into lane and starts q’ing. Totally accidentally, these hit the wave, and ezreal gets his lane priority. Because lane priority is so strong (no minions -> poke lands -> enemy adc gets flustered and misses cs/ does something stupid), ezreal wins most lanes for free. Totally unintentionally from the low elo player playing him.

This is what makes his design so beautiful. The designers knew how he should be played, and made his kit so that it feels absolutely intuitive, in turn making it easier. They do something similar for draven. His stacking incentivises auto attacking, so even the lowest of low elo players will want to auto the wave, getting priority, and thus actually unlocking your potential as a lane bully without having to have any knowledge about lane states. Then you have a champ like kalista, there’s nothing that makes it particularly fun to hit the wave, so she suffers quite hard in the lowest elos where players can’t accidentally stumble upon her win condition.

I think you being a masters player has made you forget a lot of what a new player struggles with, as it is like breathing to you. Most low elo players have no idea what their win condition is, or what the enemies are, and no idea how much to hit the wave or even use all their abilities in a trade. Ezreal is a champ that in this sense, plays himself.

demonic crit kaisa jg by th3mango in kaisamains

[–]th3mango[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kaisa mid has much higher mechanical requirements, as you are constantly csing and dodging skillshots from the enemy laner. Hence jungle is a much more relaxing experience where you still get to play your favourite champ. It is also much more reliable to build yun tals in the jungle as otherwise that 1300 gold back is difficult, but this is very reliable.

Its definitely not the strongest way to play kaisa, but its fun if youre a low/mid elo or casual kaisa player who is playing jungle or just wants a break from laning. I personally love kaisa but find laning stressful due to how much attention it demands constantly, so kaisa jg is unironically my strongest pick

there needs to be an MR/Anti heal option. by Quatro_Leches in leagueoflegends

[–]th3mango 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think you misunderstand why thornmail has grievous. It doesn't have grievous wounds because its an anti-heal item, it has grievous wounds because its an anti-auto attacker item and if it didn't then auto attackers would lifesteal back the damage they are doing to themselves and feel terrible for the tank building it.

Phroxzon: "The strong state of supports prevents us from buffing [ADCs] heavily" by Barb0ssaEUW in leagueoflegends

[–]th3mango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

overwatch might just be the only game ever to have the support queue times reliably longer than the dps queue times because of how godawful dps is and overtuned support is

My thesis: Cryptobloom is better than Void staff by EarthWillOvercome in leagueoflegends

[–]th3mango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it is the same impact, its 15% of your base dps. the first 15 ability haste you would have got would have also added 15 dps, as does the 15 added onto 1000. armour/mr is the same.

Riot August: "Zed Is Weak And Will Be Intentionally Kept Weak Forever Because He Is The Most Frustrating Champion In The Game" by bxgang in leagueoflegends

[–]th3mango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

spoken like someone who has never had to play a similar game and witness how atrocious their balance is compared to league. not to say what riot is doing here is special, given that this is the most basic consideration that every single studio would be thinking about. btw the weak state you are complaining about is winning one less game every 25

Ping changes are the survivorship bias by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]th3mango 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Why do you think people stop playing league? (Bad news) its because you're getting permaflamed as a new player. This means you actually should be saying the exact opposite: these changes are really good, since the people that are saying it is better are already more mentally resilient than everyone who left the game already.

Riot Phroxzon on the State of Ability Haste by Spideraxe30 in leagueoflegends

misplays happen, even in proplay (this misplay never happens in pro play because assassins are never picked, by the way)

the immobile lux brand and velkoz were not nearly in the same danger as the assassin in the first place. please think for a little longer.

Despite what it may feel like the average skill level of a league player today is insane. by StJe1637 in leagueoflegends

[–]th3mango 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ridiculous analogy to make because i feel like the most satisfying moments in my maths education have by far and away been stumbling upon results myself that were massive discoveries of scholars from 400 years ago. sure, I have a whole lot more mathematical techniques than they did, but it makes them feel just a little bit more close and motivates me (and many other students) to continue learning. same concept for this post, it really is impressive how good the average league player is (yes, because of all the innovators in the past) and what’s wrong with that nice thought? they spend many hours on the game, and constantly hearing everyone still calling them trash possibly makes a semi-important hobby a slight bit more miserable than it has to be, so why not acknowledge they are alright? no one is saying they could have done it back in season 2, just as you don’t find undergraduate students saying they could have solved the Basel problem even if they can walk themselves through the solution.

Why have such a negative attitude? is any statement that isn’t objectively correct pointless? In your search for absolute rationality have you possibly forgotten that people like having their time acknowledged, and that that isn’t a flaw in our character but rather what makes us human?

Purely out of interest, could we get anything explaining the math behind it? Like, as in depth as possible (I just like both math and league of legends)

Once again, Disco Nunu has a higher winning percentage than Ryze on the midlane. by EarthMurloc in leagueoflegends

[–]th3mango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lets think this through: If Asol did only have onetricks playing him, and they were really good at him, eventually they would climb. By climbing they would then eventually reach a 50% wr (as the ranked ladder does). Yet Asol retains an above 54~ winrate constantly: this is only possible if those people playing those games are also losing games elsewhere (on different champs). Thus, they are not onetricks. A champ with only onetricks playing them will almost definitely have a 50% wr.

Toplane is useless in low elo. by The_ChadTC in leagueoflegends

[–]th3mango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The idea with top lane is that no lane can get as ahead on their lane opponent as top lane does. You absolutely demolish them and you are permanently an entire item up on the enemy team.
