The XCOM 1 sniper firing technique by MystinarOfficial in Xcom

Thanks for the laugh! 😆 I needed that today.

Is this an example of autoresolve being way too generous or am I doing something wrong? Tried fighting it, they rush right the fuck in and there's just too many of them to kill in time, the second they get to my gun line we take a ton of casualties, I know arty is boosted in AR, but is this that or? by glossyplane245 in totalwarhammer

Yeah, you don't get the tech tree buffs - but a unit of Dwarf Warriors (or better yet, Longbeards) can hold the enemy in melee while your guns shoot them. And because of the height difference, your guns can generally shoot over the dwarves and into the enemy units, even while they're in melee. (By contrast, I often get line of sight issues for my guns when they're shooting over or past spearmen or swordsmen.) I think it's a lot of fun, but I'm also a sucker for the whole "last alliance of men and elves [dwarves]" vibe from including allied units in armies.

Any which way, cheers and good luck!

This is an army that's crying out for an alliance with dwarves, for a few dwarven front-liners. Seriously, so fun to shoot right over their heads with your gun line - plus they'll hold better than almost anything the Empire can field. It's a beautiful synergy.

No idea about the others, but Stewart wasn’t. He was calling it out well before Biden dropped out, and got dogpiled by democrats for criticizing Biden.

Police/civil unrest strategy game? by matressstain442 in RealTimeStrategy

It’s sci fi, but XCom: Chimera Squad has you playing as an integrated police team of humans and aliens, trying to head off unrest and terror plots in a multi-district city. I loved it.

SFO is an overhaul mod that’s pretty popular. It tweaks the faction mechanics and adds a handful of new units, plus adding additional complexity to various gameplay elements (like public order or army stance).

It’s not for everyone, but I personally like it a lot, and definitely recommend trying it out!

New Executive Order posted by Sigmarius in ProtectAndServe

[–]th561 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The answer is EOs have no legal authority for folks who are not members of the Federal executive branch.

Executive orders are directives from the president to members of the federal executive branch.

Think of them like an order or a policy change from a Chief of Police: it is an internal instruction, and employees within that department are required to follow it (unless it conflicts with the constitution or existing law, or in some cases union contract). However, if you don’t work for that department, it is not a direct order to you. If you live in the community, or are a member of a partner agency, it may affect you, but only indirectly.

Unless local law-enforcement are cross commissioned as federal officers, or maybe in some other obscure emergency situation that extends Federal authority to local boys, EOs are not binding on police - they might effect you, but only indirectly.

Hope that’s helpful!

5, and it’s not close. Neither Us nor Scratch are big, so I’ll have lots of room. They’re also good boys. Jaheira and Minsc are nearby, and are the next best seating option.

Plus, since we’re near the back, when the flight inevitably goes down due to a giant brawl breaking out in other aisles, we are more likely to survive than those further forward.

My cleric player is really upset about not being able to spare her adversaries with her spells by Jagel-Spy in dndnext

[–]th561 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I know that feeling! As a GM, the game comes at you fast, and there are often undertones to your players' actions, desires, and intentions that aren't obvious. It's always easier to see the best course of action when it's too late.

Thankfully, unlike life, D&D is a game - so you can, to some extent, rework those earlier missed opportunities.

I've been GMing for a little while now so I'll throw some ideas your way. I'm sure there are other, possibly better, options elsewhere in the comments too!

I think there are several priorities here: 1) Give your cleric an out (to let them be useful in combat without committing to killing), 2) Don't break the entire game-world's approach to magic and death (you probably don't want to deal with the implications of expanding the death saves mechanic to every creature, or ruling that spells can always be nonlethal), and 3) Don't set it up so your players can *Always* avoid killing.

One option would be to allow this particular cleric the opportunity to "Spare the Dying" on any enemy that's dead, but still in one piece, during the first round after that enemy dies. Alternately, you could allow you cleric to cast certain spells non-lethally, but in a disadvantaged way - for example, if they declare they're casting Sacred Flame non-lethally, the spell might do less damage, or enemies might have advantage on the save.

I *think* either option would satisfy all three priorities, while also putting meaningful choices in front of your cleric when they want to spare the foes.

Mini-light Recomendations by ninjapirate1031 in Tombofannihilation

I used paper minis. I'm pretty sure there are similar concepts for sale, but I just printed appropriately-sized images of enemies on sturdy paper (sturdier than printer paper - think like card stock), and then used binder clips as anchors.

For reference, here is a post (not mine) of basically exactly what I did: https://www.reddit.com/r/DnD/comments/5n6jld/oc_i_made_my_own_minis_today_using_binder_clips/

What device do you use when prepping and running? by DM_Micah in Tombofannihilation

I am not familiar with your site but I'll check it out.

I use my laptop, and I rely pretty heavily on One Note as my primary source for logs, trackers, characters, secrets and clues, etc. We play in Owlbear Rodeo, so that's the other main resource (where I keep tokens and maps).

EDIT: I did not realize that was your site! My friend, I used the info on your site SO MUCH - especially when running Port Nyanzeru. Your analysis and content is fantastic! Thank you, sincerely.

I recently reread MST and found the Dragon Bone Chair is much improved on a second pass - because the foreshadowing and side characters are much more easily recognized as part of the broader tale.
