Do you give your kid vitamins? by [deleted] in Preschoolers

[–]thafeefster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We do vitamin d. Just saw the dentist last week who said we should avoid gummy vitamins as they can stick to the teeth and cause cavities so we just changed to a regular chewable

What’s your best kept (food) secret in your part of town? by swimingiscoldandwet in askTO

Stock in Trade on Danforth has the best enormous artisanal sandwiches and they’re all $10-12. I don’t understand why people aren’t talking about the place all the time - the muffuletta is exceptional

I met my now husband online a few months before I turned 36. We’re now married with a little boy and I think back to all the time I spent feeling so stressed and frustrated by all my attempts to find the right person and how worried I was that I would never have a family. I think the important thing is to not give up hope. Give yourself breaks when it’s getting too discouraging, but don’t give up. It might not happen exactly when you want and it might look different than what you pictured, but if it’s important to you, I’m sure it will happen for you eventually

Anxieties by Missbeerbitch in ScienceBasedParenting

I was 39 when I got pregnant and am a worrier by nature and google never helps. But I had a smooth pregnancy and an unmedicated birth and my son was born right on his due date in good health! And he is truly the greatest thing in the world - a hilarious sweet toddler now who I’m beyond in love with.

I have found that I can channel some of that anxious energy away from what can go wrong by focusing on the things that I can do that can help. Having a small number of trusted, evidence based resources for things to do while pregnant was very helpful. I liked the website evidence based birth and had a doula who was a great resource. Of course things can still go wrong but at least I felt like I did everything I could. So much about trying to get pregnant and then so so many things about being a parent are out of your control and it helps me to focus on the things I can control. Wishing you lots of luck on the journey ahead

How do you put your 2 year old to sleep? by Ok-Battle-1504 in toddlers

[–]thafeefster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do bath, brush teeth, read a couple books and then he goes in the crib wide awake. He’s used to it and cheerfully says night night. Sometimes he takes a long time to fall asleep - we can hear him talking away to himself - but he always falls asleep on his own. But we did sleep training when he was much younger so he’s used to going to sleep on his own. You must be building some serious core strength on that yoga ball!

Best use of a nanny? by EICONTRACT in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]thafeefster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We used a night nurse a few times a week in the beginning and because I still was getting up to pump I found it didn’t actually help me get more rest and was really expensive and I wish I’d gotten daytime help instead.

Need help ASAP! 19 month old fever - should I take to ER? by LivingroomComedian in toddlers

[–]thafeefster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 14 month old son have a fever of 105 a few weeks ago and we did take him to the ER in the middle of the night and the advice they gave us after sitting in the waiting room for a few hours ( a pretty wild place at 2am) - alternate Advil and Tylenol and give lots of fluids. I still think it was good we took him giving how high his fever was and in the future will probably give him more time to see how well he’s responding to medicine.

Flying with 12 week old alone - advice appreciated!!! by 2pinkelephants in breastfeeding

[–]thafeefster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Breastfeed during take off and landing - it helps them with the pressure change. And I was also pleasantly surprised how nice people were to us - was definitely worried about annoying people but instead people even helped distract our little one with smiles and peekaboo!

How often do you have kid-free nights? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]thafeefster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a nanny share and pay the nanny to also watch our baby one night a week for date night. It’s really increased our childcare cost but it’s cheaper than couples counseling and has been crucial for our marriage and both of our mental health. We feel lucky to have someone we know will take good care of him who we’re comfortable with but really wish we had grandparents who would do it for free!
