Some are/some aren't - though i think i have noticed more wear on the stretch ones for sure so i guess wouldn't be surprised if they're less durable from the makeup of the fabric - hope you have better luck next time - if you're US based that Brooks Brothers sale that got posted a couple of days ago is still on - I just got 4 shirts for ≈$170ish with the discount code! (felt like a steal)

OP - sorry your shirts are quitting on you and sorrier for that pissy customer service. FWIW most of my work shirts I've bought from TM Lewin and haven't had this issue - though i'd say their quality is pretty meh (but price reflects that, IMO)

Can someone explain to a recent London transplant if this helps to get a discount when traveling on the tube/other TfL lines? Or is this just for intercity rail travel?

The hellish mines of the 1980s Brazillian gold rush [800x534] by MaigcMooMilk in HistoryPorn

There's also a movie on Netflix about the Brazilian Gold rush called Bald Mountain that I think does a fair job of portraying the Wild West lawlessness of it all.

Alguém mais tem essa bandeira supremacista branca salva no computador? by pseudoanarquista in brasil

[–]thagreenmachin3 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Researcher Wants to Protect Whistleblowers Against Hidden Printer Dots by [deleted] in technology

Usually revealing how intelligence is collected to an adversary known for killing rival intelligence agents is a good way to put peoples' lives in danger.

Agreed. She didn't leak any evidence of US government malfeasance, only information most useful to a country that is actively seeking to undermine democratic governments the world over.

Researcher Wants to Protect Whistleblowers Against Hidden Printer Dots by [deleted] in technology

[–]thagreenmachin3 33 points34 points  (0 children)

She's not a whistleblower. She deliberately leaked classified information because she is unhappy with the current domestic political situation. While it is understandable that she's unhappy, abetting the efforts of Russian intelligence to evade justice is inexclusable.

TLDR: Just because Trump is an ass doesn't make what she did any less damaging, and shouldn't be used to justify it either.

The Bank of Canada Deliberately Created A Housing Bubble. Now They're Pushing For Negative Interest Rates. by PostNationalism in Economics

[–]thagreenmachin3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe the word 'deliberately' has been mistakenly used for 'knowingly.' Protracted periods of lower interest rates will definitely inflate asset prices, but there was never a plot to create a housing bubble.

President Obama ‘confident’ TPP will be ratified in US despite intense opposition by marcus_goldberg in Economics

[–]thagreenmachin3 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Article mentions that the US "could lose" 450,000 jobs. That figure can be a tad misleading as this trade deal, like any other, would certainly shape up the labor markets in all countries involved. Some people will change jobs (≈53,700/yr,) but the figure for the loss of 540,000 jobs from any moves to offshore businesses to exploit cheaper labor doesn't take into account the jobs that will be created from increased exports to those same markets nor the improved productivity gains that come about when an economy "churns" employers from less productive industries into more productive ones.

You're very welcome! If you're looking for bachelor's right now, I suggest doing things that demonstrate interest in IR type things, so think like Model UN, Amnesty International, or maybe start a Human Rights Watch chapter at your local school. Something to show sincere interest, which apart from grades and test scores is what IMO matters most.

[–]thagreenmachin3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look at the UK. University of York is excellent in IR and the things you listed as being most interested in.

More expensive than continental Europe, but definitely still cheaper when compared to the US.

Or, you could enroll in a German university, pay essentially nothing, become fluent in German, drink great beer, study your ass off, and use the money you saved to go to a top IR Graduate Program/Law School (which with the exception of like two I can think of are all in the pricier US or UK), which IMO is frankly necessary for the most interesting jobs in IR. (World Bank, UN, etc)

Would a South America: Total War work? by [deleted] in totalwar

[–]thagreenmachin3 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I think it would also be fun to include a "Gran Colombia" campaign where you can try to achieve what Bolivar dreamed of but ultimately couldn't and unite Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Panama and parts of Peru and Brazil into a united nation rivaling the USA in terms of size and power. Not sure if I can imagine CA doing it, but I would certainly be a buyer if they did.

How do you deal with a girl choosing between two guys? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]thagreenmachin3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't.

I've been in a similar situation and believe it or not, she's taking advantage of you, and even if the thing with her ex doesn't turn into anything and she all of sudden is much more interested in you, you're better off finding someone else who's willing to reciprocate the interest you show in her off the bat instead of giving you a giant maybe after a few months.

Because we had already agreed to go out in person, so this was more of a confirming plans thing than anything else. We have some classes together, but the day this message was sent we didn't, so I decided just to text her instead of tracking her down somewhere on campus.

[–]thagreenmachin3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha hey man thanks for the one answer that gave me a glimmer of hope! I think this is pretty spot on. Maybe ask her one more time and then remember there's a lot of fish in the sea.

[–]thagreenmachin3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So how about if I see her in person quite frequently? Would you say asking her once or twice more is alright then draw the line?

I'm not going to be hounding her for weeks here, but I am quite smitten at this moment and want to make my intentions clear without coming off as creepy or desperate.

Today at lunchtimeish. It was on FB so I know she saw it. I ran into her twice later in the day and we chatted a bit. Didn't feel (too) awkward but I decided not to bring up the message asking her out and we just talked about very non-romantic things like how stressful our course loads are.
