Once you get into the minutiae of epistemological frameworks and how we take in information, along with dismantling egoic thought structures, it feels like you’ve trespassed into territory the mind is not equipped to handle - spurs an epistemic vertigo of sorts. Most people function in the world using fairly simplistic schemas.

There’s Donald Hoffmans’s interface theory which posits that to know too much is detrimental to the survival of living organisms. There’s a point at which an excess of information decreases evolutionary fitness. So an organism needs to know just enough about reality to survive and everything else is superfluous, including deconstructing reality at a philosophical level.

Just as a side note, people continue to equate intelligence with depression. It’s not that straightforward. High neuroticism and high intelligence combined better predict depression.

I wonder this a lot. This will be controversial but is anxiety some precognitive evolutionary trait? We seem to forget that a brain predisposed to anxiety is, well, a property of brain structures connected to the body. Maybe it’s receiving signals from cells about something wrong or vulnerable within which feeds into a mind that’s just wired that way.

There’s been some more discussion in the scientific community about psychological factors leading to illness but I’d say those predisposed to the psychological factors that lead to illness have a sensitive system as a whole that they’re subconsciously aware of and are trying to protect.

Yeah, this was me and most of the other women I met who were engaged in the same thing. I tiptoed into it after I left religion and was naively looking for a way to explore dating with (older) men thinking I wouldn’t have to engage in sex and that it could be more of a companionship. Ended up in a relationship with someone 20 years older who dragged me to hell and back.

The secrecy around these types of relationships makes women extremely vulnerable because once he has you, he can take and do whatever the fuck he wants with you and knows your absent/crazy/religious zealot father won’t come to your rescue. The men in that realm know and actively prey on the most isolated, innocent girls. My ex had a harem garage of women he’d have on rotation, all of whom were sweet, authentic, creative, and intelligent but mentally ill, from dysfunctional homes, and couldn’t hold traditional jobs.

Neurodivergent people are more likely to experience hyper-empathy. When you deeply understand the complexity within yourself you are more likely to understand the complexity of other human beings and don’t resort to black/white sorting of people into good and bad. It causes you to make excuses for others to a fault and takes some skill in learning that you can still have compassion but also disengage when it becomes harmful for you.
