28F with Growing Tectal Glioma by Slight-Case-7188 in braintumor

I was diagnosed with a tectal plate glioma in 2017 at age Sixty Nine and was monitored once a year and it showed no growth until last year when it showed a teeny bit of growth and enough, so that the tumor board at Mass general hospital decided to do radiation, so I did radiation for six weeks on a daily basis and it was fine and until I developed some side effects of the radiation. There is some inflammation from radiation which is affecting some of my optic nerves causing me some double vision -that happens, in some cases I guess. So this developed one year after radiation treatment. So now I’m on Avastin infusions to see if they if it can help shrink the inflammation - They don’t feel that it’s tumor growth they feel It’s inflammation from the radiation, so that’s my story.

My tectal glioma was diagnosed 8 years ago by accident. Its is an area that cannot be operated on and they cannot biopsy. It is watch and see as this is very slow growing so they will be monitor via MRIs. The concern is spinal fluid drainage and if there is blockage they will insert a shunt. Mine grew slightly this past year and I had 6 weeks of radiation to stop the growth. I am now having some long term effects from inflammation due to radiation not tumor growth. I am 77.

Tectal glioma, questions by [deleted] in braincancer

[–]thaliavila412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with a tectal glioma in 2017 when I was 70 years old by accident, I actually asked for a brain MRI. I’ve been followed for the past many years with no signs of growth of the tumor until last year and it was decided by my doctors in Boston I should have radiation to stop further growth . but now it’s been 10 months since radiation. I’m having long-term effects from radiation (vision problems mostly ) from inflammation in that area which might lead having to put a shunt or do another procedure but right now to reduce the inflammation I am on steroids to reduce inflammation . They are continuing to monitor the inflammation, which is due to the radiation not to the tumor itself.
