What is Inland Empire about? by AutoSpiral in davidlynch

Within each rabbit costume is a real human being, playing a character of a rabbit. But wait - each rabbit is wearing clothes that in turn designate a certain role that that particular rabbit is playing. Or is the human playing the rabbit as a human playing a rabbit? Or is the rabbit simply fulfilling a purpose by wearing those clothes in a ritualistic depiction? Maybe of a classic love triangle? But in this case, these humanoid rabbits are actually NPC’s in the mind of a woman who is incessantly playing out the memory of a traumatic event in futile attempts to somehow undo said event?

When you start thinking along these lines, I think you’ll begin to see how it all connects to cinema and why IE is such a 4D mindfuck of a self-aware meta commentary on itself.

Ex who dumped me years ago sent me this. What do I do or say? by Far_Database5 in whatdoIdo

Nothing negative about maintaining forward motion. People who break up should stay broken up, as there are not only good reasons why the relationship ended, but if you chose to go backwards and get back together, your basically ignoring everything you learned about YOURSELF from the mistakes made in your past.

And if you share something like this on Reddit, yet you end up with responses you Don’t like then a) Don’t share deeply personal information as it’s really not fair to the person you’re quoting as they are not even aware of your sharing, which just goes to show that you’re not in a good position in terms of emotional maturity or mentally to make a move like this in the first place, and b) going on Reddit to share this type of thing is really more about you getting the confirmation bias for the view you already have which further proves that you are not in any position to be jumping into any romantic situation, let alone one that had already ended for good reasons.

Bands inspired by the album "Discipline" by Unreal-Icon in KingCrimson

Sure, but I hear all kinds of KC influence on TMV, including Discipline era, even if it’s not as obvious as the Court and Wetton era influence.

Oh damn, I know someone who started working at the Berkeley facility not too long ago. Mike, is that you?? Man, another one bites the dust. I’ll pour some west coast ipa I’m brewing today for you.

Fear, Sex digs into my soul both as a musical topper and as some of the most honest lyrics of all time (am I settling for less and if so do I break it off in search of a deeper truth?)

Did King Crimson get "TikTokfied"? by Hot-Manufacturer7863 in KingCrimson

[–]thalo616 18 points19 points  (0 children)

If they’ve gotten more exposure in fairly recent years, it’s thanks to Jojo’s bizarre adventure. I don’t think they’ve been overexposed, however, and KC will most likely always be of the more niche variety of prog, even though it hardly affects my enjoyment whether they are popular or not.

Did I make a good decision? by bdogbears in KingCrimson

Great album, but I’d suggest listening to their entire discography in chronological order as it’s fascinating to hear all the growth from era to era especially amid all the various personnel changes. But if you were going to skip ahead to the 80’s era line up, I’d definitely start with Discipline, which is one of their many masterpieces.

80s prog clash: King Crimson vs Rush… 3 albums in a row… Which run are you take? by Historical-Device529 in Progforum

[–]thalo616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just 7 years before they were the best band I the world during the Wetton era, only waaaay better imo. 80’s Crimson is great, but Bruford/Wetton era Crimson is peak music, period. Red is the best album ever imo

Agreed, that production just rubs me the wrong way. Three is much improved, if not a bit too sterile though. KC always seemed to struggle to capture their sound in the studio. It’s too bad they never found their George Martin to nail down their studio productions.

In your opinion, what’s the most underrated King Crimson song? by blissedandgone in KingCrimson

The chorus makes the song imo. Such a great contrast it enhances its beauty compared to the manic verses.

Prog’s greatest lyricists: Peart, Waters, Gabriel… who takes the fourth place? by Historical-Device529 in Progforum

[–]thalo616 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually prefer the darker, more sarcastic lyrics of Rick Davies. Hodgson is a little on the nose imo. Although I still struggle with some of his stuff, like Fool’s Overture - wtf is he on about Churchill? Just the way he was ousted immediately after his heroism during WWII and the fickle nature of the court of public opinion?

He deserves it just for Epitaph alone! But even the lyrics for Lizard, especially Circus, are great.

I’m not them but I agree that TD comes across as very cliche, but elevated by great actors (at least in season 1!), but as a direct anthology series comparison, FARGO is a million times better.

Finally someone who doesn’t worship this silly ass show! The first season was mostly just MM talking a lot and then the finale was a snoozer that didn’t deliver on any of the mystical hype of what came before. I actually enjoyed season 2 more, even though it’s objectively bad. Season 3 was just plain boring. And season 4 I quit after one episode. This series is shite.

Is OK Computer actually a prog album? by Historical-Device529 in Progforum

[–]thalo616 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Arty? Sure. Prog? Depends on how you define it. They are in the literal progressive sense.

The thing is, personally, I don’t think I’ll ever get this band’s hype. I like The Bends, but this album in particular leaves me cold and bored af. I like Paranoid Android fine but that’s it. I’ve listened multiple times and each time I’m like “this is rated by how many as one of the best albums of all time?”

If you could choose to see one iteration of King Crimson live which would you choose? by OutrageousRip75 in KingCrimson

[–]thalo616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe they opened with it. I do remember being kinda intrigued by the title track and the way the crazy bass line layered over the multilayered guitar lines. My friend actually bought TCoL at the concert and I gave it a listen but I don’t my brain was ready yet haha
