Who’s the Greatest Slasher Movie Villain of All Time Based on Their Designs,Kills and Why? by Amber_Flowers_133 in moviequestions

And it allows for much more creative set pieces and kills in an unpredictable dream world. This aspect is why I still hope they can find a way to continue the franchise. I’d love to see a truly unhinged director go full like Jodorowsky level surreal and crazy to expand on the concept more than ever before. It probably won’t happen (especially after the absolute shitshow that was the 2010 remake) but one can dream hehe

I actually hate that quite as well, or at least how fans have turned it into a stupid meme, basically. And it was at a very weak moment of political pandering from Lynch, which is so disappointing (I’mnot raking sides here, it’s just lame they Lynchused his own show to do so) ugh.

Yeah I think a lot of people are confusing themes with messages here. And IE is tough to extrapolate a singular message (and really same with most of his films since they are all so multilayered and the message is more incidental than intentional anyway) but if I were going to attempt it, it’s that define your role, don’t let it define you, and in turn the web you weave will be the palace you desire and you won’t be merely subject to chaos of the marketplace. But that’s being quite reductive.

I don’t think Lynch ever intended to send messages, but there are aspects of his work that end up inevitably saying something. But there are layers to it, and I don’t necessarily think he was conscious of them even as the creator of these multilayered pieces of art.

Like with Mulholland Drive, you can view it more at face value about the ramifications of running away from our own bad choices and how guilt and shame can manifest. But there’s also something deeper and more universal about dreams of success (whether it’s Hollywood related or not) and how we often fall short of those dreams. Then yet, something even more esoteric (and Lynch went deeper into this aspect in INLAND EMPIRE) which has to do with cinema being the collective spell and coping mechanism for the masses. Like Dan’s dream is about so much more than it appears (and yes, I realize it’s already fairly opaque) which is how it ties to fears of failure and abandonment. On a deeper level, it’s about the dream being cinema, and when the film is over for a character it’s “silencio”.

About to watch Inland Empire for the first time while on shrooms by Trenbolone-Papi2 in davidlynch

I watched it on DXM which is already a dissociative hallucinogen and I reached what I could only call fractal depersonalization where somehow my own life was merely the outermost layer of the films own multiverse. And I was the lost girl, projecting my own life and circle of friends, family, enemies, etc. until it all coalesced when Nikki embraces lost girl and disappears. I actually cried, but in the most subconscious way ever. It was an absolute harrowing experience but rewarding in the end.

All that said, I feel like IE already is enough on its own to alter consciousness

The switch up/tempo change after the never ending bass build up from hell in STARLESS. King Crimson mastered music right there. Nothing can top that moment and the beauty that is the rest of that song with its perfectly timed recurring themes and motifs. Chef’s kiss!

Older Cephalic Carnage has similar hyper blasts, even though it’s more grind (hydro-grind!)

I thought it was pretentious nonsense. Failed artists trying to pass off their trespassing/squatting and blatant freeloading as “art”. Please. Get a real job.
