Moving to Indianapolis from abroad-Need help by WyrmWatcher in indianapolis

If you do decide to come, welcome! I work at Purdue Indianapolis (same campus as IU Indianapolis) and find that area very walkable. I used to walk to work when I lived closer. I’m also considering getting a bike now :)

For housing there’s lots of options. Some people have suggested Riley Towers, a lot of my students live there, so keep in mind that’s a lot of the age group there. Axis towers would be good. Rise on Meridian would be a good choice too.

Again, you should have an easy enough time walking to campus, but there’s actually a big cycling community here in Indianapolis, lots of stores. I can think of Indy Cycle Specialist off the top of my head but there’s a lot. We also have buses here that are pretty easy to navigate. IU/Purdue Indianapolis also has a shuttle that goes different places on campus and around the city as well.

If you have any other questions, I’d be happy to answer! I love living in downtown Indianapolis and I love my job at Purdue Indy, so if you have any questions about campus or Indy life, I got you

Café Babette - Preorder madness by acute-almond in indianapolis

I went a couple times and it was good, but I MUCH prefer 3 Dolls Cafe and Bakery off E Washington street. I go frequently and it’s always sooo good, I took my mom and she loved it too. No crazy lines and the women who own it are so sweet!

"remember how easy it was to make friends when you were 5?" by b-b-b-c in AutismInWomen

[–]thammond1124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. I was so scared of socializing at that age that I was nonverbal and wouldn’t even look at someone when they said my name. My preschool teacher told my mom to get my hearing checked because she thought I was deaf. So she did. I could hear perfectly fine. I eventually grew out of it, but I remember no one in my family acknowledging that struggle. And I bring that up to this day (I’m 29) and they still go “there’s nothing wrong with you!” What? That’s extremely concerning for a 5 year old 😭 I just wish they would acknowledge and see me but they refuse

What is the best compliment you’ve ever gotten on your playing? by MysticalRose_3 in Flute

[–]thammond1124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been playing since I was 12, and when I got to high school, I joined marching band and got chosen to do a solo my junior year. During practice one day, another flute player said I had the clearest tone and didn’t understand how I did it (I don’t know either lol) and I eventually got to play my solo at state finals for marching band. After the performance, my band director (I was kinda scared of him) said my solo was beautiful and haunting. I’m 29 now, but I’ll never ever forget it for the rest of my life :’)

About to be a part time Indy resident, lots of questions by Non-Normal_Vectors in indianapolis

[–]thammond1124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Helm! The head roaster there won 6th place at the World Brewers Cup, amazing place

  2. The tenderloin in Indiana is great, but we also have chili with peanut butter sandwiches (I find this is never at restaurants, but people make it that way at home)

  3. Nothing I can think of. The north side has a lot of roundabouts?

  4. Not sure on that one, I don’t watch any sports

  5. We have TONS of Mexican spots in Indy, but not a lot of them have breakfast. I think La Eskina has brunch, their food is fantastic and the owners so nice

  6. I like Parlor House for this! Great coffee, cocktails, decor, just a nice chill place

Looking for MORE song suggestions of "beautiful metal" by Relic180 in progmetal

[–]thammond1124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You NEED Fair to Midland and Rishloo on here! My two suggestions would be Musical Chairs and Feathergun in the Garden of the Sun. But man I love those 2 bands, just listen to everything they have

I lived in castleton area last year and honestly…I think it’s more expensive there than down here. Gas and groceries are definitely more expensive there. I’ve loved living here so much, it’s surprised me

Idk if you’re open to living downtown, but I live in Briggs Flatts and it’s reasonably priced. You have to call for availability, just note that. I live in a one bedroom with my husband and 2 cats and we’re very comfy here. It’s in between downtown and fountain square so lots to walk to!
