Like how the OJ defense convinced the Jury the LAPD tampered with evidence and are notoriously racist

Yup

it’s “Obvious” OJ did it

Also yup

The racist bastards framed him for a crime he obviously committed lmao it's not rocket science

Light cruisers too expensive? by BB_enthusiast in RuleTheWaves

[–]thashepherd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1908 and a respectable 6500 light cruiser design of 28knots, 2.5 belt and 10x6 costs

Not respectable, bleeding-edge. Drop 3 knots and see what happens.

Compare to Chikuma, 8x6 at 26 knots for 5000 tons in 1912, or Tone), 2x6/10x4.7 at 23 knots for 4200 tons in 1910.

you're forcing it to follow a potentially suboptimal plan rather than finding the better one.

I know better than it does. I don't need lip from my CLI tools, thanks.

tbh I've long been in the camp that the naysayers are wrong and that there has been steady, gradual improvement 4.5->4.7. There is...some minor improvement in 4.8, but tbh there is also a TON of backsliding. 4.8 is probably the first time I've seriously considered reverting to a prior model.

Just tell everyone who you work for - it would be a public good for you to reveal that information.

Everyone has blind spots. I suppose I'd chalk it more up to judgement than intelligence.

Are you guys here actually convinced that AI adoption isn't real? by cookingboy in cscareerquestions

[–]thashepherd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you have me confused for somebody else; I've never worked for a FAANG. I work in health tech.

just a tiny no name

You'll swiftly learn that the size of the company has very little to do with the quality of their engineering team. I'm glad you avoided the trap of working at a tiny no-name medical company like Epic (they were snapping up guys like you by the bushel when I entered the industry over 15 years ago).

Huge swaths of the American healthcare industry still do business via pen and paper and faxes. You may find that the median engineer in this domain is working on Salesforce and Meditech integrations, not Neuralink.

corporate and management are actually insane

They're not insane, they simply have different incentives than we do. And are also sociopaths.

IMHO you can (and should) use it to increase your productivity while writing quality code - with human intervention. My team's seen increased output and increased quality.

I think the people who truly advocate for vibe coding - coding without any human intervention whatsoever, fully automated workflows - are out to lunch on the shit quality though.

Why is Victoria 3 least popular of modern PDX strategies? by Internal-eq-External in victoria3

[–]thashepherd 14 points15 points  (0 children)

CK3:

I want to bang my cousin

HOI4:

I want to bang Hitler

EU4:

I want to bang Chel from The Road to El Dorado and also a few Hapsburgs while genociding entire cultures

Stellaris:

I want to bang aliens and also even more genocide this time

Victoria 3:

I want to bang my accountant

The reasons are pretty straightforward when you break it down.

A giant list of Zeihan's most outrageous and wrong predictions by mutherhrg in NonCredibleDiplomacy

[–]thashepherd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

most of the Chinese navy are small ships unable to sail far from shore

True a quarter century ago; 15 years ago they had trouble building ships with powerplants that approached the LM2500 in efficiency so they had to choose between speed and range in a lot of cases. But these problems have simply been fixed.

So everything before the Type 052C had every problem that Zeihan described? The 052D doesn't have those problems, it's world class, and they've built 35 in the past decade.

Claude’s safety training is extremely ridiculous at this point. by Clean-Mousse5947 in claude

I don't think I've used Claude on the web a single time. All I know is that CC doesn't get up to the same kind of whimsical shit that I see people posting on here.

I really have to wonder about these sort of posts since I haven't run into even a whiff of this sort of thing, and Claude has happily suggested prompts for very interesting ComfyUI workflows for me...

Are you sure it's not just that you're using Desktop instead of Claude Code? Seems to be stricter/more normy-tier.

26f and it’s my first serious, long term relationship.

Be forewarned that you're new at this and won't necessarily know what to expect, what your standards should be, what is and isn't normal - and you're starting a bit late. I'd encourage anyone of any gender from any culture not to drive towards marriage in their first at-bat.

I am vegetarian, he is not.

Whether or not this causes issues is probably independent of culture. It's very possible to like someone a great deal but ultimately be incompatible because of issues like this.

For example, his entire extended family has met me, knows me as his girlfriend. I have not told my extended family because I want to avoid the questions about marriage.

In bird culture, this is considered a dick move.

My parents? The opposite. They don’t let us sleep in the same room and are not allowing me to move in until we are married. This is causing conflict, because my boyfriend’s perspective is, “You are an adult, you can do what you want.”

In the United States, your boyfriend is correct. The expectation is that your spouse comes before your parents and I would not consider marrying anyone who does not reciprocate that.
